Alex Flinn's Bewitching

I do not normally post things like this, but given that I'd shared a lot about my thoughts on the Alex Flinn novel, Beastly and the film adaptation starring Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer, I thought it'd be fun to share with you all that Alex has given Kendra her own story in the upcoming novel, Bewitching.

Not only will Kendra get her due in a story but that February 2012 release is just the first in a series called "The Kendra Chronicles." There are conflicting reports that this will be a series... so it still might just be one novel. Anyway, the cover of the book was recently released, so I thought I'd share it will you all! Isn't it cool-looking? (Love that tagline, too - Beastly was just one of her curses.) Also, the one to the left is an earlier concept of the cover art and the right cover is the actual. I wasn't completely "sold" on Kendra's character in Beastly but for some reason I think I will be checking this one out.

What do you think about Alex writing Kendra her own story? Which cover design do you all like best?

  1. I like the cover on the left, her dress is prettier. I haven't read Beastly but I saw the movie and it was just okay this looks good though!

  4. I think the composition on the left cover, with the back of the gown is much better than the other one. =)

  5. i like the right - it's more bewitching, so to speak, than the other. i'm intrigued that kendra will have her own story, but i'm not much for dark, gothic novels, so i'm not sure if i'll read this.

  6. Renee - I haven't decided which cover I like best overall, but I think the left-hand one has a more mysterious aura to its concept.

Loved the movie adaptation of Beastly and the novel was decent although it was TEN TIMES more "tweeny" than the film. ;D

Jessica - I like the actual cover that made it to press but I think the original concept was more... mysterious. And this novel definitely needs that look - Kendra is a little different though and neither cover really represents Mary-Kate's portrayal in the film.

I am so looking forward to this one also. =D

    Juju - me, too! =)

Charity - they supposedly changed the art because it was nearly the same as another novel that was previously released. Personally, I didn't think they were THAT similar, but whatever...

My thought is that the left-hand design is much more mysterious and that is just what Kendra's story needs!

Annie - I do agree with you that the right-hand design is more "bewitching," but I think the original art is mysterious where the re-vised cover couldn't quite capture. But oh, well! Overall I am just glad that Alex's novels depict more that just a flower. =D

I didn't feel as if Beastly was all that dark or Gothic of a read but I do think Kendra's story might have a tendency to follow more in a pattern like that.
