Karen Kingsbury's Longing

Hey, Readers! So, I thought I'd again share with you two different book cover art concepts because doing Alex Flinn's Bewitching was kind of fun. *smile* Here we have Karen's latest novel chronicling yet another chapter in her much-loved heroine Bailey Flannigan's life. (I must tell you I have "issues" with how her story is shaping up thus far, but then you'll all be able to read about that in another day or two, so please keep an eye out!) The cover to the left is the one that actually made it to publication (it's the one you'll see if you pick up a copy), the right-side photo was a working concept.
I am going to be honest, I am so glad that the original cover was nixed because it... well... how do I put this... it  makes Brandon seem like a bit of an immature "tweeny," wimp of a character in comparison to Bailey. The headshot is certainly not how I'd thought of the cause of Bailey's romantic emotional turmoil or the leading man in her life who complicates matters nor is it how I want to think of him. Thank goodness Karen's daughter Kelsey and her fiance participated in a beautiful beach side photo shoot that changed everything - and then, designers created a gorgeous design. Bailey's expression is perfect; the colors are pretty and Brandon leaning in to whisper something to her is so sweet! Everything about it is stunning - I <3 it! *smile*

Thoughts, anyone?

  1. RISSI!!!!! DO YOU READ KAREN KINGSBURY?!?!?!?! I just finished "Longing" and I cannot wait to hear your thoughts--though I have this feeling we are on the same page. You do a review and I do one, okay ;-)

As to the cover art, I like the new one better...Brandon doesn't "look" right in the original ;-)

  2. I can see how the cover on the right could be like you said. I like them both...but it looks like the left is going to win for me :) Would you recommend this series? Just wondering :) Sierra

  3. Ella - yes, I do. I've only read her 9/11 series but I quite enjoyed it. We do have two or three of her other series but, although my mom has, I've yet to read any others.

To be honest I find her writing always involves something tragic but that didn't prevent me from finding a heart-tugging story on their pages. =)

Sounds cool! I'll look forward to your review - I have Longing on my desk but haven't read it just yet; it's on the top of my TBR stack. And, I CANNOT wait to read it! =D

Cover art... me, too. I feel like the "original" makes Brandon look kind of wimpy. Yeah, that is SO not how I picture him. ;D

Sierra - yeah, the original concept just isn't "right." The leading man is not described how the actor looks. =D

The first book in this series, Leaving, I just finished and it was priceless - I really loved it minus its flaws. So, yes, overall, I totally would recommend this series even though I am skeptical about the end to Bailey's story. I want it to end a certain way and I am not hopeful it will turn out that way.

Keep a look-out for a review of the first novel, Sierra; I'll post it before the week is out. =)

  4. I've never read anything of Karen Kingsbury's before! Though I have been tempted to read the Bailey Flanigan series. :) I'd have to disagree with you about the cover, though. When I see the head of that...*person* {on the left}, I imagine a very creepy face....yeah, I know, it's a bad excuse. ;) Though, the original cover's man *DOES* look rather immature and not "man-ish", someone who'd be in a Disney movie. :P {Oh! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Disney movies, they {almost} always end happy!} Though, don't the other books in the series look like the original?
I really like these "cover" posts, you should do them more often! :)

  5. I'll be waiting! Thanks :) Sierra

  6. Trinka - hey, that is "a-okay." =) I think the actual cover art does a MUCH better job of depicting Brandon (who is actually a Hollywood heartthrob). The young man who is with Bailey isn't "creepy" looking though, so rest assured. ;D Hmmm... yeah, the first two books do have the same cover-look as the "original concept" for Longing, but I feel like this new artwork goes just as nicely with the rest of the series.

This series is really entertaining thus far. As I read them, I'll be posting reviews, so in order to get a better idea of the novels, watch for those.

Awww! Thanks! These have been lots of fun... I'll have to see if I can dig up some more. =)

    Sierra - great! =)

  7. Okay, I just did some "research" and I found out that the guy on the cover on the left is Kyle, from Anthem Lights!!!!!!!! Hehe, I still like the other one better, though. :)

  8. Yeah, that is right - and Kyle is also engaged to the girl on the cover art who is Karen Kingsbury's (the author) daughter, Kelsey.

Everyone's tastes are different - I like the colors of the original cover but not the design or head shot of the actor who is meant to be Brandon. ;D

  9. Seriously!?!?!?? I love Anthem Lights! That is soooo sweet too :) *Awwwww* Sierra

  10. Yeah :) I did some "stalking" and found that out! :) Sigh.... I watch the video of when they got engaged, and it. was. so. sweet!!!

  11. Give me the link Trinka! I wanna watch it! Sierra

  12. Trinka - I know it was, wasn't it!? (There was even Taylor Swift's "Love Story" song playing.) I did see it a while back also. They are so cute together. =)

Sierra - you can watch the proposal here:

    Sweet, isn't it!? =)

  13. Oh my goodness that was sooo sweet! Funny...I knew each of those songs that were playing in the background.... Thanks Rissi. Sierra

  14. Glad you thought so, Sierra. =D I thought it was really cute also; it was like out of a movie. =)
