Little Letters: Second Edition 2012

Dear Carly Rae Jepsen,

just so you know your songs “Call me Maybe” and “This Kiss” are really fun but your video for the former is not cool. Color me (most definitely) “not impressed.”

Dear Christmas Cards,

annually we have an appointment. I snip, create and put you together and yet each year I deal with all the little things that come up in which you make yourself bothersome but you are proving particularly challenging this year. May I ask why? I chose
your design because I thought we’d get along so well this go-round. Really… I did. Unless, we start understanding each other, I am seriously close to calling it quits between us and starting afresh. You’ve been warned.

Dear Dancing with the Stars,

your show is gorgeous with all the dancing but I cannot tell you how much better it’d be without the put on drama. Logic tells me it is all a part of the show but my irritable side wonders if you realize how ridiculous you sometimes sound. It had to be said.

Dear Glow-in-the-Dark Stars,

when I was ten, I thought you were the greatest thing ever. Your coolness appealed to that little girl and enticed me to buy more packs of you at the Dollar Store than my father thought necessary. Each time I came home with a package, he would groan and lovingly say, “no more!” Some ten years later I find I might agree with him but then… you are still awesome. The most amazing
thing is you still work! I am impressed.

Dear Liz,

thank you for convincing me to paint. Seriously, it has to be a good ten years that I’ve talked of it – so glad you finally convinced me. Despite the delays, the paint is bought and everything… now the real work begins. You still in?

Dear Microsoft Word File,

I want you to know that I do know your location and what you could represent. You don’t just represent a “someday” dream, you should know that, so in that spirit… wanna’ set a date?

Dear Mr. Gold,

I like you. For one reason only: Unlike your evil counterpart, your spell can be broken by true love. You’d be so much cooler as a good guy. Would you just pucker up and let the girl kiss you already!?

Dear NCIS,

watching through season nine reinforced just what a fabulous show you really are. Kudos to you for being fearless, humorous and heart breaking – that finale almost killed me (in the best possible way) though I know it all works out. I love each of those
qualities and given that, it is not hard to understand why you are the number one primetime drama. Well played.

Dear Pop-up Ads,

when first we upgraded to DSL, you were far from a nuisance. Since I’ve chosen to use Google Chrome, you won’t leave me alone! (Except when I go “incognito.”) I am sorry to have to say this but… it’s time we broke up. I cannot take your stalking any more. Please understand.

Dear Starbucks,

just so you know, I love all the seasonal flavors you bring out in “limited” time only supply and that you can covert any drink into my favorite version: The frappuccino.

Dear Taylor Swift,

I know you are a millionaire evidence you are way more successful at your trade than I am mine (totally not arguing this), and while I like your music and all, if you want to be a “serious” song writer, you may want to consider writing about more than Romeo and Juliet, youthful love triangles and repeat break-up songs. Just sayin’.

Dear Twitter Followers,

thanks for being so much fun to interact with and for essentially choosing to let my tweets pop up on your timeline. You are all so great.

Tell me: Do you all want this to be a more frequent posting around here? Let me know…

Now it’s your turn! Want to link up? Leave your link here, and we’ll all get to read your version. Looking forward to anyone’s post who joins in. *Smile*

  1. I must say that I absolutely loved this post. And I want to try and link up next week :D Although I love Taylor's songs…it would be nice to hear something a bit more diverse. One can get tired after so many of the same songs… Sierra
    Keep growing beautiful!

  2. Charity – they are fun! That is all I can say. :-)

Yeah… I think you mentioned your dislike of Twitter before. I find it quite fun and have enjoyed interacting with the awesome girls from Femnista as well as some new friends and re-connecting with someone. I usually take a day off from it here and there because it's never a good thing to become "too" attached to social media. One of my other posts like this has a "letter" to Tumblr – I like it… but my interest was minimal at first before it recently become a bit of an addiction, and now again, I am backing off. Still… it's a quick way to "blog" by simply hitting that "re-blog" button. :-)

Ella – I laugh at myself for even criticizing a public figure like Swift because, um, yeah, she has the millions of dollars and a copious number of awards… so obviously, she is doing something right. ;-D

Glow-in-the-Dark stars were the coolest thing when I was little. I'll admit… I may still like them.

Susannah – thanks! This concept is so fun – and I always enjoy you stopping by. :-)

I haven't heard the song yet but have read about 'Ronan' and heard of its origins. Must buy it on iTunes next time I go shopping. Thanks for the remind. :-)

Sierra – thanks! It is SO much fun. I don't really have something I post weekly or bi-weekly and I was hoping this could become more of a trend around here even if not every week. I sure hope you do link up – I'd enjoy that. :-)

Taylor is awesome for feel-good, enchanting love songs but I think she has more talent than that and she should exercise it. Hopefully with maturity, she will. Have you heard her two recent songs off the upcoming album, Red? Next week, I am hoping to blog about them.

AnnaKate – long time, no talk, girl! So glad you dropped by. :-) I have way too much fun with these – link up sometime if you would want too.

Taylor has more talent than the songs she writes. Or I think she does.

  3. Rissi-I definitely want to link up! I agree, I really love her love songs, they are really lovely (with that voice…) and I definitely think that she could have some amazing un-love song. :D I have heard Ronan (made me cry and so beautiful, it reminded me of Never Grow Up and I hope she does more like this!) and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (of course! A fun song with a really long title *grins*). Are there any other ones? But I'm really feeling something a bit new with her and it isn't just the bangs…Hoping it lasts! Sierra
    Keep growing beautiful!

  4. Sierra – COOL! I will definitely be looking forward to that, girl. :-)

Taylor's songs usually always put a smile on my face and more often than not, they are "on repeat" on my iPod – or in my head even. :-D They are just catchy… and FUN. 'Never Ever' is a cool song but I still need to download 'Ronan.' You are yet another person who has recommended it so I have to wonder why I've not listened yet – 'Grow Up' IS poignant: I agree! There is also 'Begin Again' from her upcoming album and it's good (really sweet actually) but again not any different than her usual songs. Still… there is something a bit different to her sound and I actually think she looks cute right now. I think her style is changing into a more mature one and I hope that lasts. :-)

Lydia – *high five* I like Carly's two most recent singles but that video… yeah, it kind of killed the fun of 'Call me Maybe.'

No, you may write to anyone you chose! I have so much fun with these, so I'd love to see a version you write. :-)

  5. Love this. :D

And I agree with you about Taylor Swift. She needs to stop singing about how "mean" everyone is to her. :-P

Buut, I will admit that I still love her songs – she's not the best singer there ever was, but she's definitely a good songwriter. She just needs new topics to write about. :D

And yeah…that Call Me Maybe music video is ridiculous. I admit, I laughed – not sure if it was supposed to be funny, but I took it that way. *laugh*

Have you seen the music video for "We Are Never Getting Back Together"? It'st strange. The animal costumes really threw me for a loop…

  6. Great list ;) I think I just might do it so I'll link up when I've made mine ;)

Oh my, Christmas cards season is around the corner! It's one of my favourite things to do this time of the year…

Of all the social media out there, I don't think I can live without Twitter. It's the best way for me to communicate with some of my online friends who are no longer on LJ or whatever and I get all of my news instantly without wading through news websites =D

  7. Jessica – hey! I am so glad you dropped by. And, thank you for reading! :-)

Never thought of it that way (Taylor telling the world how "mean" everyone is to her) but it is a good point. I more think of her songs as repetitive in a teen-tragic-love-story sort of way. Oh, well! She is the one with six Grammy's so she's doing something right. I guess. No, Taylor is NOT the best singer – her voice doesn't have the range Carrie or Miranda or Kelly or Martina does but I do think she has talent – and its that writing talent that she really should focus on IMO.

Video of 'Maybe' = ridiculous! Though as you say, it was kind of… surprising. For me, that last minute thing sort of spoiled the catchy song. :-) As for the 'Never Ever' video, yes, I've seen it and it's very different. It was filmed different without much editing so I think Taylor wanted the vibe to be "different" also. Whether or not that paid off… I'm not sure. Her next video looks really stylish so I am anxious to see it at the end of October. :-)

Lianne – thanks! And, that would be AWESOME!

I could live without Twitter but it sure is fun! I've enjoyed it more than I thought and have even used it beyond its intended capacity but… I CANNNOT help it! LOL! It is rather addictive. :-D

My Christmas cards are giving me fits just now, but I suppose I'll forgive them. Just this once.

TJ – aw! Thanks! I cannot wait to see S2 of 'Once' as it looks equally good! The first season was way more fun than it should have been and it'll be interesting to see where writer's take it. Enjoy!

Thanks to you all for making these posts SO much fun! Drop by with a comment or link any time. And, hopefully (*fingers crossed*), we'll do this again in a couple weeks.

  8. Done and done ;) It kept me sane as I was editing one of my articles earlier ;_;

lol it is addictive xP Just when you're ready to get off it something interesting always crops up. And LOL, aww about your Christmas cards xP

Btw I missed your point the first time I read your list about the glow in the dark stars! I loved those things growing up, I wished I had a whole bunch of them to decorate my room with, hehe. Impressive that they still work! =)

  9. Cool, Li! I am on my way to check out your post. :-) Wasn't it fun!? It's a very "easy" post to write up and I love that about it.

Twitter shouldn't be as fun as it is considering it is nothing… that inventive. LOL! Still, though I am frustrated to be limited to 160 characters sometimes, it's been great!

I've been gone the last few days so hopefully now, I'll be able to work on those pesky cards – if not, I may have to reinvent them.

Glow-in-the-Dark stars were EVERYWHERE in my room as a kid. I couldn't get enough of them. For a period of time we even made our own paper stars with the glow-in-the-dark crayons. Those were good times. :-)

  10. This is such a fun post. I love it, and you should do more like this!

And I agree about Mr. Gold. I love him so much – but if/when he turns good he'll be even more awesome!

  11. Thanks, Lauren – I really enjoyed these posts! They are fun and quick which makes them more FUN. LOL! I have a third one in the works so though probably not this week, hopefully next I'll get it up.

Mr. Gold needs to pucker up and just let the girl kiss him. Just sayin'.

SO glad you dropped by – it's been forever.

  12. Yes, I know, Rissi – it's been much too long since I've been to your site. I sure had some catching up to do! Not that that was a bad thing – it's great to have lots of your posts to read. :)

  13. Well… it was great to see your name as a comment-er, Lauren. :-) Anytime, I enjoy your comments. Hope you enjoyed your "catch-up." And thanks again! :-D

  14. Nice posts, these! Hope you keep doing them, they really give a nice insight in what you've been doing and thinking. If I didn't already have so much things on my waiting list to post, I might try this as well.

You're so right about Taylor Swift. Her songs are often, even though catchy and fun to listen to for a while, also 'more of the same'.
I found it funny though, that I heard 'We are never ever getting back together' on the radio yesterday. Apparently her newer, more poppy and less country songs are getting popular here in The Netherlands, while previously no-one knew who Taylor was!

  15. Thanks, Birdienl – they are fun. If ever you find the time, drop by with a link up here. :-)

The plan is for "Edition Three" to go up by the end of next week so hopefully it will all work out. I don't want to bore people with the "same old, same old" mantra which is why I am a bit hesitant to start a bi-weekly type of "meme" post but the reaction to these has been great: So again, thank you! :-)

Taylor's songs are fun if nothing else. She has sold millions of copies and I actually like her two most recent tracks and am thrilled to hear her album come October 22nd. Hopefully it will live up to fans expectations – everywhere!

As always, glad you dropped by.

  16. I know this had nothing to do with this post, but I'm assuming that you have watched Doctor who because of your header. I'm interested in watching it and am wondering if you would suggest it?

    I have a great day!!!

  17. No problem about being "off-topic," Ella – I don't mind at all. :-)

Actually, no, I've not seen Doctor Who… yet! I am tempted to watch it because I have at least three friends who are insanely addicted to it. It looks a bit crazy but I am always up for something new. As a result, I may be looking into renting it soon and if so, I'll be sure to let you know what I think of it. :-)
