Remembrance: 9/11 2012

by

Eleven years ago today September 11 happened. It is an event that is seared in the minds of American’s forever. On that day we lost heroes and working American’s. We lost fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters. Some of us weren’t personally affected by it in that we lost a loved one but no proud American was left unscathed. In many ways it was a defining moment in U.S. history, one that unleashed finger-pointing and laid blame everywhere except the only place it should have – the politics surrounding that horrible heartbreak became ugly, leading the double standard desperately seeking someone or something to blame. Today we talk about 9/11 2012.

2012 is an election year and by that, American’s have a choice to make… It is one that will change the politics of the country either way. Though the idea for this post started out differently, instead of writing a post about the state of the country, our past or speculating what will happen when the winner of the next four-year administration is sworn in, I would like to say thank you to all the troops and the “men in blue” protecting the home front, keeping us safe and allowing us to continue living in freedom. Our
freedom should not be taken for granted or put to ill use…

In those years, I pray that there was healing found in the lives of the family members but I also hope that what this day will always serve as a reminder of is that America is a strong, proud nation. In honor of that day, there were some great hashtags trending on Twitter. Here are some of the tweets I came across that honored and remembered 9/11:

“My heart goes out to all the families and heroes of 9/11! We love you!” – Britt Nicole

“11 years since the 9/11 event. My heart goes out to the familys who lost loved ones… We will never forget!” – Bethany Hamilton

“9/11. a day we will never forget” – Kaylee

“We’ll never forget. My prayers go out to the families & service members who lost loved ones on 9/11” – Tim Tebow

“9/11 is an event that America, and the world will never forget. Remembering all those who lost their lives that day.” – Liz
Mace

“Today we’re remembering the nearly 3,000 people taken too soon. Join us & @Sept11Memorial to Honor, Remember & Reunite #Honor911″ – Megan and Liz

“Praying for all affected by the devastating events of 9/11…Can’t believe it’s been 11 years. #wewillNEVERforget #heroes” – Ty Russell

My heartfelt appreciation and admiration goes out to those in uniform for their sacrifice and selfless acts in keeping America safe… thank you

  1. Juju – I think it's important that we don't. Though hopefully those personally affected have found healing, the reminder of this day should always ignite America!

TJ – thank you. I do struggle each year with weather or not to mention 9/11 because I know it is painful for the families but yet, I don't think America should ever forget the tragedy of that day – it should remind us not just of the heroes we lost but all that we could still lose.
