11 Things: the May Edition

by

Hello, hello! Instead of a review or a rambling topical post (which I’d had planned originally for today), I’ve decided to answer the
“tag” questions from the kind Analiese who tagged me earlier this week! Thanks so much, Analiese – that was terribly kind of you! So below you’ll find the answers to this “11 Things” meme.

11 Things: the May Edition

11 Things: the May Edition. Going through an award from a fellow blogger AND answering the "11 questions" to come with it. Text © Rissi JC
1. If you were an actress, would you most like to portray Elizabeth Bennet, Marguerite Blakeney, Molly Gibson, or Emma Woodhouse? (Consider whose character yours matches, too.)

If considering strictly by whom I am most like, I’d have to go with Molly Gibson. I am a bookish sort like Elizabeth but am not nearly as outspoken; I don’t crave the stage as Marguerite does nor am I a “meddler” like Emma. Giving it further thought, I don’t like all of the same things as Molly either (the interest in Roger’s work – bugs and things are my thing) but then again, I do tend to keep my feelings more to myself.

2. Your style is…1)comfortable and casual 2)feminine  3)purely your own  4)elegant

Hmm… not sure. Maybe a combination of them all…? I like “casual” but am always “dressing it up” whether it be with jewelry or shoes since I rarely have opportunity to attend formal events I enjoy getting “dressed up” any chance I go out – even if it is
just for a shopping trip.

3. a. Coffee or tea? b. White, milk, or dark chocolate?

First question, tea! Second… either white or milk chocolate – dark may be “healthier” for you, which doesn’t mean I like its flavors.

4. Which period drama have you watched most recently, and what did you think of it?

For a series, it was Call the Midwife (adore it!) S2. If you constitute “period drama” as a movie in the proper sense, it’d be
Great Expectations (2012) starring Jeremy Irvine. It was wonderful (it’s grown on me steadily), typical, darkly Dickens albeit I am still debating if I liked it as well as its counterpart, BBC’s recent re-make.

5. You’re going to a semi-formal event – would you be most likely to wear sandals, heels, or dress boots?

Heels! Love my high heels – and rarely get opportunity to wear them so I probably pull them out for even impractical events.

6. Use three words to describe your personality.

Quiet, modest, easy-to-please

7. How many of Jane Austen’s books have you read?

As pathetic as this may sound to most of you, I have to come clean, I’ve only read one. *hangs head*

8. Favorite clothing item in your closet is…

Ooooh, how does one answer this question!? (Do I have to pick ONE!?) Probably my button-down shirts; never used to
like the style, now I find it comfortable and practical.

9. If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would go (and what would you want to see while there)?

I’ll dream big. Top choice would be England, although I don’t have a specific reason other than being charmed by it (hello, costume drama fanatic here!) Second, Paris and well, that should be obvious – the Eiffel Tower.

10. Do you prefer Arwen or Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)? I know that’s hard!

Cannot say – Lord of the Rings is not “my thing” nor is the middle earth era in general.

11. Which movie ending is your favorite?

Is this a trick question? How on earth could I possibly pick one. Okay, here are a few (and forgive them tending to be “chick flicks,” I was doing this late at night, and yeah… my brain might not have been working)

27 Dresses (because it’s complete)
Alice (purely for its “fun” surprise ending that is over before it begins)
Remember Sunday (because it dares to be less than “perfect”)

Sherlock: Season Two (technically, this isn’t a movie but… I couldn’t help it; what a shocker! Fortunately, it isn’t over. Yet!)

What about all of you? Do you have a favorite movie ending? Likely I have many more… this was what I had at the time. Anyone who wants to join in, please do!

Like always I have no eleven questions of my own to post at this time. I went through a period of time when I did a lot of these tags (following them to a T) and so now, I think I am out of new ideas. Nonetheless, I always have a blast answering whatever questions are posed (thanks again, Analiese – loved this!) and hope no one minds that I am “breaking the rules” a bit.

Come Tuesday, they’ll be some new posts up around here – what it will be is a mystery. Should it be a review or another ranting topical post? Hmm… such a dilemma. Also, I’ll announce the giveaway winner later today. Until then… happy Friday everyone – and Memorial Day weekend! Oh, my word, we get at long weekend! At my house, this means nights spent staying up past my midnight bedtime (what can I say? I’m a bookaholic which should logically explain that hour *grin*), marathon-ing television
shows I fangirl over, church on Sunday, family and a cookout. Sounds like a lovely plan to me.

How about you? Any exciting plans?

Happy weekend! ❤

  1. Eek, I'm with you – how does one pick a favorite ending?? Anne of Green Gables if one of my favorites, because it's such a classic…but has anybody else ever noticed how SHORT the actual climactic ending is?? There's two whole movies, both a several hours long, building up to that moment when Anne professes her love for Gilbert..and it's literally over in about 35 seconds.

And if by how many times you've backtracked and watched it over and over again in one sitting constitutes a favorite ending…ahem, I'd have to cough up a confession that says it would be the end of Penelope. Because that was one heck of a kiss. ;)

    1. I know, right!? Cannot believe I forgot about Anne of Green Gables, Kellie! How precious is that ending!? I think a LOT Of movies tease us with the romance and then… it's just over before it begins. Fortunately for 'Anne,' that scene is very poignant. :)

Ooh! It's been ages since I watched Penelope. I adore it – now you have me anxious to re-watch that kiss. Cannot believe I'd forget such an epic one. ;)

  2. LOVE these. What fun!! Can I play along in your comments? :D

    1. Emma. She's saucy.
    2. Style: Casual, comfy, with boho and 20s infusions when I dress up.
    3. Tea all the way. Dark chocolate but not too dark.
    4. None.
    5. Sandals.
    6. Sweet n' sour saucey (ok yah now I sound like something you'd dip a tortilla chip into)
    7. Only 1. Emma actually. Shame on me.
    8. This giant wrap thingy that can be worn like 5 different ways.
    9. Italy
    10. Meh. Neither.
    11. French Kiss.

    1. Me, too, Juju – always have a blast answering the questions. :)

      1. Emma is fun; she's one of the BEST Austen character's in my estimation. Flaws and all, I love her well-meaning meddling – and how cute she is while going about it.
      2. I like boho fashion just haven't ever tried if for myself! And how neat – 20's style!? That sounds AWESOME.
      3. Yay for another tea drinker!
      4. Aw, well that's no fun. :)
      5. Gotta love the comfy-ness of sandals!
      6. LOL! Well… I know what you mean.
      7. Oooh… you mean I am not alone in the only-one-Austen-bookclub!? YES!
      8. Sounds like a great item to have in ones closet.
      9. Another great destination – or I'd imagine it would be.
      10. *high five*
      11. Never seen that one.

Loved that you joined in, Juju – and aren't those heels the cutest!? Wish I had some like it. :)

    1. I watch 27 Dresses often, Rosie. It's so… cute!

Aren't these questions fun!? It's always a blast doing this "11 Tag." :)

  3. I love Molly Gibson, probably one of my favorite 'regency' heroines. x)

Shocker that you've only read 1 Jane Austen! I have only recently been able to read them, but I've already read 4!

oooh, love Paris! I'd love to go there also! Someday… =)

    Such fun these "11 Tag's"!!

    1. As do I, Evelyn – she's a real sweetheart and I think often she's "forgotten" in the shuffle of Austen heroines and the like.

I know it is a shock… I think someday I will try to read more from Austen – or that's the plan. Perhaps it's because I've seen all the movies and that affects my opinion or ease of getting through the book. Mainly I think it's because the vocabulary is vastly different from that of "modern" historical novels. Glad you are enjoying them!

You and I both. It's one of those "someday dreams." :)

They are fun! I always enjoy answering the questions.

  4. As soon as I read question #11 I immediately thought of "Alice", and what do you know, that was one of your choices! There's just something about that ending that is so charming.

I must confess I've never read any of Jane Austen's works, not even one! I've read stories "inspired" by her works, but not the real thing. Lately I've been feeling a curiosity about Pride & Prejudice though, so we'll see…I have a feeling I'll probably check it out sometime this year.

Midnight bedtimes must be a fairly normal phenomenon for book-a-holics, because I'm the same way. Recently it's been even later though… I really need to try to fix the issue, but it's so hard when you want to read just "one more chapter!"

Fun post, Rissi! Oh, I agree about the chocolate, as well. :)

    1. LOL! Well, that's a coincidence, Valerie. Great minds and all that. ;)

This is me also. I've read modern takes on classic Austen or "inspired by" novels but only managed to get through one of her actual books. Part of it is as a result of me being a visual person and hence I get more out of the movie and the other reason is the different vocabulary – prose isn't what it once as.

Ah, yes, that "one more chapter" thought. It flits across my mind far too often. *sigh* It does present a problem. ;)

Thanks for reading! Always like getting your take. :)

  5. Ouh! I want to join, please! Really like this type of quizz.

    1. If you were an actress, would you most like to portray Elizabeth Bennet, Marguerite Blakeney, Molly Gibson, or Emma Woodhouse? (Consider whose character yours matches, too.)

I've only seen the movie Pride and Prejudice with Kierra Knightley in it. (Nice one.) I'm not too familiar with Jane Austeen, unfortunately…

    2. Your style is…1)comfortable and casual 2)feminine 3)purely your own 4)elegant

Really like fashion. Hmmmmm between 1 and 3. Add a touch of classy.

    3. a. Coffee or tea? b. White, milk, or dark chocolate?

Sometimes one seems more appealing than the other. MILK CHOCOLATE, all the way!

    4. Which period drama have you watched most recently, and what did you think of it?

    I don't watch TV.

    5. You're going to a semi-formal event – would you be most likely to wear sandals, heels, or dress boots?

    Bringing out the heels!

    6. Use three words to describe your personality.

Passionate, caring, introverted-ly- extroverted… if that makes any sense. (Introvert first though. :)

    7. How many of Jane Austen's books have you read?

    O. (I can hear people gasping… *Grin*. Don't know when I'll remedy that.)

    8. Favorite clothing item in your closet is…

Probably my long black pants. Looks good with almost any top and it's comfy.

    9. If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would go (and what would you want to see while there)?

Israel. Walk where Jesus walk. Experience a Bible tour.

    10. Do you prefer Arwen or Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)? I know that's hard!

I have not watched the movie nor have I read the books.

    11. Which movie ending is your favorite?

Any movie ending involving a couple living happily ever after, thank you!

I enjoyed your answers, Rissi. Especially the one about your personality. I like.

    1. I definitely agree with your #11, Ganise! I love my happily ever afters. In fact, that's kind of a requirement to my movie watching. There are exceptions, but I really want my happy ending if at all possible. :)

    2. Woo-hoo, Ganise! How delightful to see you joined in this. Love it. :)

I do just have to say… you've not seen any other Austen adaptations? Or you are simply saying that Kiera's is the only P&P adaptation you've seen? For being only 2 hours and compacting so much information the 2005 version is EXCELLENT and is slowly nudging its way to the top of my very favorite Austen adaptations.

      2. As do I! Love playing with new things and looking through fashion magazines. Such fun.
      4. On DVD works too. :)
      5. *high five*
      7. YES! A kindred spirit; happy to know I am not alone in this. You made my day, Kara. ;)
      10. *high five*
      11. I LOVE this. Why didn't I think of that answer? It sums up exactly what I look for in a movie. :)

Kara – a rare ending that isn't happy will sneak into my "tolerable" category, but as I said… this is rare! Agree with you and Ganise. It's basically a requirement for a movie to end happily. :)

  6. I do love Molly. I'm far from being like her myself, can't stand bugs! *shudder* But I do love her. :)

Yeah for tea! And no to dark chocolate! I'm a milk chocolate kind of gal.

I really need to watch Call the Midwife. I don't know why I haven't.

So which Austen have you read? I've only read Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice. But I certainly love all the movies and mini series! :)

My favorite item of clothing….do shoes count? I have a pair of brown sandals that I wear probably 6 out of 7 days of the week. They're so comfy! And cute of course. ;)

And I heartily agree with everyone about the end of Penelope! Such an sigh-worthy moment.

Love your answers Rissi! So fun. :D

    1. As do I, Kara – I forgot at first she had a fascination with Roger's bugs (eww!) but love how sweet she is and her spirit – I think she is often misplaced in the shuffle of Austen heroines. She doesn't deserve that.

*high five* Love my iced tea and milk chocolate although if I am going to have chocolate, I prefer it in a dish of ice cream or a Reese's peanut butter cup as opposed to a Hersey bar.

Yes, yes you do! It's "different" than the normal BBC drama but once it grabs a hold of your heartstrings… yep, 'Midwife' doesn't let go.

It was Sense & Sensibility. Plus I've been trudging through 'Northanger' for goodness knows how long. Maybe if I were to buy one of those beautiful watercolor editions, I'd be inspired. ;) My mother has read nearly all of Austen's books – me? Nope, I just fan-girl over the movies.

Of course shoes count! I have these "nude" colored heels that I ADORE! The one pair we bought a while back and then another pair a couple years ago by the same company – it's a little different style but the same color.

Cannot believe I forget the end of Penelope! (Other than the happiness…) This means I am overdue for a re-watch.

Thanks for reading, Kara – always have fun with these!

  7. Lovely post! I have to agree about Middle Earth etc. my brother is a fan as are some of my friends but me? Not very much :/ Prior to this school year I had only read two of Austen's books. Now I can say I've read 4! And I own one of the ones I haven't gotten to yet (shame on me) with hopes of reading it soon.

    1. Thanks for reading and commenting, Sierra. :)

Yeah, middle earth is not "my thing" by a long shot. I mean there are probably one or two films I like set in the era but for the most part, I steer clear of it. Like your brother, my cousin's like the Lord of the Rings films and such also and while I am not saying it doesn't have great things to say, it's not something I am determined to see.

Good for you! Glad you are reading and presumably enjoying Austen's novels. :)

  8. Wow, your answers were so fun to read, Rissi! :D Thanks for doing the tag.
What?!? You're not a dark chocolate person? That's too bad. :) I'd go to Paris too if I had the option…anywhere in Europe would do, I guess. Which Jane Austen have you read? Out of all of them P&P was my favorite, but I actually liked Mansfield Park a lot too.
Again, thanks for doing the tag – and have a lovely day, Rissi!

    1. Thank you, Analiese for including me – I had such a fun time!

It probably depends on the chocolate to be honest. Some I don't mind if it's dark (there are some truffles or candies I like), others are too "strong" for my tastes. Either way, I stick with milk. Mostly. ;)

I read Sense and Sensibility and enjoyed it. Now I just need to try to get through another one or two. :) Glad to hear P&P is so good – the movie certainly reflects that. Aw, I love the Mansfield Park movie(s)! It's SO good.

Thanks for stopping by, Analiese. Do so anytime.
