Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Teaser Trailer

Hey, dear readers! Check out this fun teaser trailer for ABC's new fantasy "mini-series" or the "spin-off" of Once Upon a Time!

Check out the trailer and then, share what you think! It looks creative and fun - perhaps something along the lines of SyFy's Alice in terms of the unique, modern touches but maybe not as dark...?

Are you all excited?

  1. I can't see Sebastian Stan as a Mad Hatter. Will he be in this show or not?

    1. Do you know... I hadn't thought about his absence or appearance on 'Wonderland,' Joanna. Guess we'll have to wait and see if he shows up! :)

    2. Mad Hatter is there!!!! He is in his room of hats and there's his hand entering the mirror (yes, it's his hand)!!!!!

  2. Whoa. Weird.... If it's so unrelated to Once Upon a Time, though, I wish they'd call it something different. What can I say, though :) I'm a huge OUAT fan and was sad the season finale was Sunday!

    1. Love 'Once' also, Hannah! I watch shows on DVD so I am giddy for the S2 set to release this autumn. For me, this seems to blend nicely with the themes and elements of 'Once' but... we shall see how it all plays out! Either way, it's exciting stuff!!!

  3. OooO! Exciting! Kinda shamed to say it... but this looks better than OUAT.

    1. It does, Juju! Color me curious for sure. :)

I am not sure if it's just a mini series or not. Maybe it will first be a mid season filler and turn into something more "permanent." Not sure. Here's to wishing; the more fairy tales, the merrier!

    1. 'Once' is really creative and fun, Livia! Hope you see it sometime. Any fairy-tale lover is charmed with it. :)

Did you ever see ScFy's Alice? That was a unique, modern spin on the Wonderland fable and it was actually interesting. That is what this trailer reminds me of.

  7. Hmm...

    Gave away quite a lot.
Epic use of epic music by the epic Immediate Music company.
Why does the Red Queen look like a hooker?
    Bad CGI.
    Interesting idea.

    1. Didn't mind all it "gave away." I think if it paces itself as 'Once' has, there is tons of room for creativity and all sorts of things. Love the voiceover and... well, pretty much everything! (But then I was a fan of 'Alice' also.) OUAT has bad effects also, so I didn't even notice that.

Ha! A Red Queen that looks like a hooker!? That's modern television and inventive costumes for ya. ;)

  9. This looks AWESOME! I hadn't even heard of it before this post, but oh my word, I'm so excited for this!

I just did a quick bit of searching, and it appears it's going to be a series, rather than just a mini-series. So, so, so awesome! I'm thrilled someone is finally taking initiative to move away from all the crime procedural dramas. While I absolutely adore Bones and a couple others, sometimes it's nice to watch something a little lighter and less crime oriented.

I did see Syfy's Alice mini-series a while back, and I enjoyed that as well. The mad hatter was just so cute, LOL! Loved the ending to that mini-series.

Thanks so much for posting about this, I seriously hadn't heard anything about this before. Very excited! :)

    1. It sure does, Valerie! Must agree with you.

Crime shows are some of my favorite form of entertainment - I realize that may sound strange but most of them have moments of such poignancy that it takes us by surprise plus the cast's chemistry is often brilliant. That being said, I am all for these clever new shows Networks are optioning. Between 'Once' (which has something for EVERYONE) and shows like Revenge, writers have proved they can take us by surprise. Bravo them!

Alice was cool in a steampunk/modern kind of way. I enjoyed that miniseries very much - did you see Tin Man? That was also by ScFy and equally entertaining. :) And oh-my, yes! The Mad Hatter in Alice!? Loved that dude - and the ending? It was perfect - sudden but perfect.

Thanks for commenting - I'm lovin' all this excitement! :)

    2. I have some crime shows that I really like as well (can't mention Bones enough!), so it certainly doesn't sound strange that they are some of your favorites. The characters are what draws me in, and the crime angle ultimately ends up just being background to the characters. As I think about it, I'm realizing that many of my favorites actually are crime shows...White Collar, Psych, Monk...love those!

I did see Tin Man, yes. I liked that one at the time, though I can't remember much of it now since it's been a few years. I love the modern twists and updates some of the classic fairy tales have gotten in recent years, it's so fun to watch something new that has a familiar feel! ;)

    3. Three cheers for Bones! That's one of my favorites still on TV. And White Collar!? Love that one too (only Neal can pull of looking so cool in those hats. ;D). Ironically, I think Psych is the only show from USA Network, I've not seen an episode of - well, that and Monk. :)

Often times, crime shows have the BEST characters. There is so much more than meets the eye about them and what that does, is "lessen" the anatomy of the crime because we're so focused on how the characters react rather than how it's solved.

I own Alice but not Tin Man and was just thinking the other day that I'd like too. It was very inventive. Me, too!!! I adore these modern twists on old classics - like you say, it makes for fun viewing and puts a smile on my face. :)

    1. Hey, Carlyn! Lovely to see you stopping in. :)

Isn't this exciting!? If 'Wonderland' is anywhere near as clever as 'Once,' it has great promise.

    1. I think so as well, Ella! It looks like another clever spin on a classic fairy-tale with some contemporary leanings. That works just dandy far as I am concerned! :)

  12. As usual, I'm the last to know about these things and therefore, am once again indebted to your blog! :) Yeeeh! Excited about this! Need I even bother to say again how much I love make-believe and anything that smacks of fairy-tale? ;)

    1. You may gush or comment on your love of fairy-tales as many times as you like, Kellie, m'dear! You shall not catch me complaining since I could not agree with you more - bring on the fairy-tales. Far as I am concerned, the more writers imagine, the better for networks to option them. :)

Super excited about this spin-off! Should be good if it follows the lead 'Once' paved.

    1. Do you watch 'Once,' Angela? I suspect this will be very similar to that only maybe its angle will be to trend darker.

Have you ever seen ScFy's Alice? While watching this trailer, I was reminded of that mini-series and it was one of the cleverest contemporary spins on the Wonderland fable.

Thanks bunches for stopping by! Appreciate it. :)

  14. I think it looks pretty good, and I am an Alice and Once Upon a Time fan. :) So I guess it's guaranteed that I'll like it!

I just have to wonder how long they can keep OUaT (and possibly even this show, though it's hard to tell yet) going without running out of ideas. These are by the same people who did Lost, right? I was a big Lost fan, but I felt like they kept dragging things out and it just got way too complicated and weird. I hope they won't do the same with these shows.

    1. Oh, yay! Another fan of 'Once' and Alice - LOVE both of those productions so much. Like you, I have high expectations for this spin-off, Kristin.

You know, I believe you are right; the show-runners for 'Once' were behind Lost. Keeping up the creativity will be hard in my opinion also. I mean I want them to succeed and keep it going (the show's popularity is INSANE) but am skeptical that it will. Who haven't we met yet: Ariel? Rapunzel?

Crossing my fingers that we are surprised and writer's keep up a clever, creative pace. :)

  15. I think it looks pretty awesome! I enjoy fantasy and scifi shows and this looks like a great combo of both. Definitely very SyFy Alice-esc (which I loved by the way! :).

    1. Agree, Kara - this left me really anticipating its release and the whole "look" of it. Hope it succeeds.

Me, too! Alice was a bright spot (I know, that sounds strange give how "dark" it was) and it was truly a unique delight in the world of TV miniseries. Need to watch it again now after all this talk of it. :)

    1. From what I understand, this is the music selection in this particular trailer:

0:50-2:27 : "Heart of Courage" by Two Steps From Hell
2:28-2:50 : "Freedom fighters" by Two Steps From Hell
2:58- end : "Archangel" by Two Steps From Hell

I hope that helps, Brittany. :)
