  1. I'm so excited!! I can't wait to see how they handle the changes around the house and the new cast they bring in. I love Maggie Smith! Can't wait to hear her wit again.

    1. Ditto! Me, too, Kate. This is looking quite lovely despite the tears.

  2. Oh boy...here we go. First off, I know it won't be my favorite season. Secondly, while I'm dubious as to the sheer number of characters in this season, Julian Fellowes is the man for the job/deserves this undertaking after killing off Sybil & Matthew. {I know, I know, tht it was the actor's choice, but still. I can hold a grudge like an Italian, even if it's imagined & over fictional characters! LOL!}
Anywho...so beautiful music in this trailer, Granny looks amazing as usual...I think we'll see many new sides to Mary that will flesh out & expand her character beautifully in a heartrending way...
*Deep breath* Okay...I'm SO excited for this, inspite of everything. Although my first reaction {watching the trailer here is my 3rd time in 10 minutes} was "NO!!!!! I don't WANT Branson to be happy!" LOL Am I a terrible human being? ;)

    1. Thanks for the candid thoughts, Meghan. They made me smile! :)

Regarding Branson, absolutely not! You aren't a horrible person at all. Seeing Branson happy again is something I will root for. That being said, I am not sure the nanny will be the girl with whom he should "move on" with. They kind of did this last season with that brief fling with the maid. We'll see.

Mary is going to be an amazing story-line this season. I've read so many interviews in which Michelle talks about Mary not moving on "too quickly" and that it will be take a long time before she is happy again. This will no doubt help with the transition or I feel it will. Plus as you say, her character will get beautifully fleshed out. CANNOT. WAIT. :)

Share your thoughts once you start watching S4, Meghan - I'd love to hear all about your impressions. .

  3. I am SO excited...and honestly, this trailer has me wondering if it will be my favorite season yet. Can. Not. WAIT. :) :)

    1. I think I can honestly say the same, Ruth. The closer we get, the MORE excited I am. This season could possibly be its most challenging yet wonderful yet - I think it's going to stretch its characters in ways we've never have anticipated when the series started. That is good writing and direction. :)

  4. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! The trailer is FINALLY here!!!!!

Awwwww, Mary and the Dowager Countess. This is going to be heartbreakingly beautiful.

The rest of it looks fantastic!

Matthew's death broke my heart, but if Mary has to marry again, I'm rooting for Evelyn Napier, who I really liked in his two appearances in S1.

CAN'T WAIT, CAN'T WAIT. Hurry up, January!!!!!!!!!

    1. My reaction exactly, Melody. Looks like it'll be a keeper. :)

Some of these scenes, oh my, yes! Doesn't it all look smashing. There are going to be lots of special scenes coming up - and this has just the cast to pull it off.

I like your strategy. Napier made an impression on me also way back when. It'll be fun to not just see him again but also to find out how or if he and Mary reconnect. :)

Ditto! Dying to watch series four!

  6. I must admit, I didn't watch Season 3 because I had spoilers given to me and I didn't want to sit there and cry. This season does look more hopeful, though. I may just have to give Season 3 a go...

    1. I think there were a lot of fans who skipped series three, Caitlin. Once I got over the initial "shock" of that last death, I am with Ruth: This may be the best season yet. From the looks of things, that is quite possible. :)

Hope you find some redeeming things in the third season if you watch it - and like this upcoming series!

  8. I'm kind of looking forward to Series 4, though I still don't have the high hopes for it like for the previous series. I guess one of the producers said that there was going to be more death and romance, and all I could think was, "Really? You didn't learn your lesson from the last series?" But I definitely want to know what happens next.

I have so many theories what might be going on in Series 4. I actually have a post coming out tomorrow (Sunday) about the different things in the trailer. I would love to have you read it and hear what you think.

    1. No way! You read there were going to be more deaths!? Well... fans will not be happy with that. I read somewhere that Fellowes "promised" not to kill off more characters because of all the turmoil we went through last year. Here's hoping that holds out. *bites nails*

Saw your lovely post, Elizabeth - loved how you put it together. Well done. Enjoyed reading through it - thanks for sharing about its existence. :)

  9. So excited... even though I kinda hate Jullian Fellows for killing off the two characters I actually liked last season.

    1. As did I, Natalie. In a roundabout way, I think series three was leading into the strongest season yet. I'm now beyond eager to watch series four! Looks like a keeper.

  10. In spite of all things that happened in Season 3 and the fact that Downton Abbey does not seem complete with Dan Stevens' face, I am excited. This trailer made me excited. Really. :D

I'm just annoyed that Gwen is there. I didn't like what she did to Branson, flirting with him while at the same time, making him ashamed of becoming who he is now. She isn't good for him. If Branson is to be happy with someone, please let it be someone sensible and someone likable. Maybe not another Sybil, but someone just as good, please? :D

    1. Aw, this is awesome, Alyssa. I'm so glad that the trailer is stirring excitement even though fans miss Dan Stevens - I think it has great promise. :)

You know, Branson isn't rumored to be entangled with Edna (she was the maid...right!?!) in S4. Instead a new character - baby Sybbie's nanny, will supposedly catch his eye. Hmm... not sure how I feel about this. I want him to be happy but that seems kind of a repeat of last series with Edna (who, you are right wasn't good for him AT ALL). I like seeing Branson "tame down" a bit and being a part of the Crawley family. It's been special.

...and I agree, a new love interest needs to be "different" than Sybil.

    2. Oh, yes. Edna. *laughs* I'm so sorry. I've mixed up their names. :P

Oh. Oh, dear. Little Sybbie's nanny? I'm not sure how I feel about that. Well, if she is a "good girl," we'll all learn to like her. ;)

Yes, it's nice to see Branson a part of the Crawley family. I will forever remember that scene of the last episode (before the Christmas one) after he caught the cricket ball. It was a snapshot of the Crawley men together--Lord Grantham, Matthew, and Branson--and they were laughing, patting each other on the back, congratulating each other. I felt that it was the first time that Branson ever felt like he belonged. And it was the first time Lord Grantham ever saw him as a "son." *drifts off in a warm haze of fond memories*

    3. I did too, Alyssa - no biggie! I was typing away discussing the relationship between Branson and "Gwen" and suddenly, I realized that name didn't sound right, LOL! Anyway, Gwen was maybe Sybil's friend - the maid who left!? Wish she'd come back in, I quite liked her. :)

I'm not 100% sure about the nanny angle either - however I'll give her a fair chance. Who knows, perhaps she'll end up being a keeper! :)

That scene - oh my! It was precious. As was that entire scene - those were the good ole' days. :)

    4. Oh, yes, Gwen was Sybil's friend--the one who went away to be a secretary. I wish she'd come back to. :)

You're right about that. We'll just have to wait and see! :D

    5. Alyssa - Gwen was a sweetheart and it'd be awesome if she'd make an appearance again. Catching up with old favorites is always fun. :)

CANNOT wait to see how this fourth season plays out. It should be peachy. ;)
