20 Things You Might Not Know About Me

by

Morning, friends! Hope you’ve all enjoyed a wonderful start to a new month. Considering I’m an autumn girl, I’m excited to welcome this new season and was thrilled to see nature’s first glimpse of fall last week in a tree that was, yes, beginning to change its colors. Bring it on says me.

20 Things You Might Not Know About Me. Going through this fun meme and answering the '20 things' questions. Text © Rissi JC

Today, I’m doing something different than a review and am hoping this is the start of keeping that up – like, really, I noticed the other day I have a ton of non-reviews on my USB drive that have been sitting in archive file limbo. Maybe someday I’ll finish these topical posts to share and maybe, I’ll always go the “easy” route and continue to overload you with reviews. Either way, it’s insane the amount of posts I have started. Anyway, back on point. Today’s entry is a “tag” that’s been making the blog rounds and I was fortunate enough to receive shout-outs from two lovely bloggers, Christy (of Southern Sassy Things) and Lydia (of Overweight Bookshelf) – thank you, awesome ladies! I’m psyched to give this a go. So, let’s jump right in.

20 Things You Might Not Know About Me

Question 1: How tall are you? 5′ 6″ or somewhere in that range.

Question 2: Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what? It must still be hiding…

Question 3: What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?

People who are mean just for the sake of being… mean. There is a difference between sincerely sharing an honest opinion (which is something to strive for), and bashing a person because they’re enraged (not too strong a word, trust me, I’ve experienced it) by a differing opinion.

Question 4: What’s your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?

Not sure if this is my biggest pet peeve, but I find it inconsiderate when people give their cell phones more attention than the people around them.

Question 5: What’s your favorite song? How to choose this? *checks iPod* Four of the songs I’ve

20 Things You Might Not Know About Me

been only mildly obsessing over lately are Florida Georgia Line’s ‘This is how We Roll,’ Hilary Duff’s ‘Chasing the Sun,’ Lady Antebellum’s ‘Compass,’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it Off’ (say what you will, but the tune is an instant mood-booster).

Question 6: What’s your favorite Etsy shop that isn’t yours?

Honesty, I haven’t really gotten into the whole Etsy obsession, that being said my mom and I are about to get a crash course in it (if our plans work out) and I do enjoy browsing this shop – I seriously want some of those stacking rings.

Question 7: What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?

Like anything, this depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s catching up on computer things, other times it’s reading or watching a fun chick flick – last time I spent nearly a whole Sunday afternoon alone, basically I read the whole time and it was perfect. Yep, I’m a simple girl.

Question 8: What’s your favorite junk food?

Pretty much anything salty – or peanut butter M&M’s.

Question 9: Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?

No pets. Last time my family had a dog, his name was Cheeta.

Question 10: What are your number one favorite nonfiction and fiction books?

Impossible to chose, so for non-fiction, I still love Let’s Roll and for fiction one of my recent very favorites is Meant to be Mine by Becky Wade.

Question 11: What’s your favorite beauty product?

There have been many I’ve used over the years and loved, but just now, I’m rediscovering my love of L’Oreal’s True Match Naturale Blush or the True Match Naturale Soft-Focus Mineral Finish. The line is specific to not being nearly as “heavy” or stand out on your skin, and it actually works as it claims, which makes me happy – never did like “heavy” blush. Also, I don’t know where I’d be without liquid eyeliner – in makeup, it’s all about the eyes!

Question 12: When were you last embarrassed? What happened?

I’ve been embarrassed countless times (guess that’s part of life and growing up, right??), unfortunately the “gift” of embarrassment seems to have stuck with me, post awkward teenage years… wait! Maybe this is the answer to question 2! (Edit: today actually! I *thought* this post was scheduled and ready to publish and oh dear, it was not.)

Question 13: If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?

If I’m not drinking water, my drink of choice is primarily iced tea.

Question 14: What’s your favorite movie?

Seriously? These questions… why are you asking me to chose?? A recent favorite is Divergent. Though I love everything from Amazing Grace to costume dramas and of course, chick flicks.

Question 15: What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep?

Probably more artist than anything else.

Question 16: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Since I’ve never been, I don’t know that I’d want to live there, but I do (someday) want to visit England.

Question 17: PC or Mac? PC

Question 18: Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?

Sorry, I’m still waiting for Mr. Thornton or Mr. Tilney or Mr. Knightley to come along… *wink*

Question 19: Favorite celebrity?

Again with the questions! How to pick. There are a ton of celebrities I like within their chosen entertainment biz, though one I recently “got to know” through her turn on Dancing with the Stars was Candace Cameron Bure – she seems like a down-to-earth celebrity.

Question 20: What blogger do you secretly want be best friends with?

Seriously? Is this a trick question?? How to answer this! I think there are several blogger buddies who I’d get along with smashingly, either because we share many common beliefs/likes or because they would have something to teach me. To name them is impossible; I love all of the INSPYs ladies and have enjoyed working with them – not to mention being able to learn from them. I also enjoy getting to know bloggers like Amber Stokes and everyone who regularly comments around here (shout out to you ALL, you know who you are!); it’s become a kind of community that is a pleasure to be a part of.

…and with that, as mentioned above I want to tag all of you, my awesome, frequent blog visitors and friends. You know who you are; Bekah, Hannah, Heather, Jillian, Juju, Kristin, Melissa Tagg, Tressa, Shannon (forgive the lack of blog links.; I’m finishing this late, but I’ll try to put them in tomorrow!), plus anyone else who wants to join in, because we’d love to see this tag appear on YOUR blog. If you do, drop back by with your links.

If any of you would like to participate, here are the rules!

  1. What a fun post! I will definitely have to join this party. ;) Love what you said about Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off"… my sentiments exactly. I mean, at first I didn't really like it but it is just so darn catchy and makes me want to dance. Anyways, thanks for the tag. It was so fun getting to "know" you better and I can't wait to participate! :)

    1. I thought this was as crazy fun tag, Bekah, albeit one that made me CHOOSE things and I'm all like, "noooo!" I mean, a favorite book? Um, how to choose that? Bloggers we'd like to know in real life? Like, really? :D

There are a lot of opinions about Taylor Swift (as there are for every musician), however I enjoy her songs just because usually, they're catchy. Beyond that, I think there are "better" voices out there.

Hope you have fun with it as well.

    2. Right?? These questions were HARD. Like, how could this poster torture us like this?? ;)

Thanks, Bekah! I'm thrilled you joined in. Looking forward to reading your tag. :)

    1. I think so too, Hannah – these questions are crazy fun. Thanks for the kind words and if you join in, I look forward to reading it. As you say, it's always fun to learn more about bloggers. :)

Yeah, I'm 50/50 on the 'Shake it Off' video. Sometimes I like the creativity behind it, others, I think it's "over the top."

  2. What a fun post, Rissi! I love your answers. I'm in complete agreement with the cell phones…yeah, I get that it's fun to play games or go on social media with your phones, but if you're with other people, it's so rude to ignore them and keep your eyes glued to the screen. As extreme as it is, I actually have a friend that got hit by a car because she was so focused on her phone and didn't look up to cross the street :( Fortunately she's okay now but it just goes to show how much attention people give to their phones rather than their surroundings.

Anyway. Thanks so much for tagging me! I can't wait to answer these questions!!

    1. Oh, and about Taylor Swift…I'm still a little opposed to her newer music as I loved her previous songs when she still sang in the "country" genre. With that said, however, I can't stop singing "Shake It Off!"

    2. Thanks, Jillian – I'm looking forward to your post. :)

I was in a restaurant a month or so ago with family and looking around, basically all you saw was people on their phones. It's crazy. I'm like you, there's nothing wrong with checking your phone or enjoying the "fun factor," but when you're with others, you should enjoy their company versus whatever your screen has to offer. I'm glad your friend is okay! That had to be quite a scare and not a very fun one either.

I liked Taylor's country songs as well. I was just listening to 'Begin Again' the other day and it was really sweet – made me realize much as I hope to like her new album, I will miss the blend of pop and country. :)

  3. Hm, I now know that I'm taller than you. :-) And YES. I've experienced the "friend at my house yet mind on their cell phone." I'm the odd one, because I still just have a flip phone (or had, since it's missing at the moment). and there's not much you can do with it.
Simplicity is nice. While I wouldn't mind being invited to a grand ball or something magically extravagant of the sort, I can find quite a bit of pleasure in a day with books, writing, Pinterest, Hulu, and Netflix. As for your preference for iced tea, I agree. I like soda, but drinking it all the time would become awful. Fun post! :-D

    1. LOL, that's the sort of things we find out in these tags, right?? ;)

We can have fun with our phones – and I'll admit, they can be addicting (*ahem* Instagram), but there's a time and place for that. When we're with friends or family, our attention shouldn't be on our screen. Most of my family has phones but none of us are addicted to them by any means – usually, my phone is on silent and I can go days without checking it.

Books, TV binge watching… ah, yes. It's how I roll. :)

      Thanks for visiting, Grace! :)

    1. Thanks, Stacy! Always a pleasure to see you and Rel around here. Taylor's new song is the PERFECT "get up and going" song. It's definitely got that vibe to it. Looking forward to visiting The Novel Life and reading your post. :)

  4. Really nice post, Rissi! We're having such fun with 'Shake it off' at the lab where I work. Every time it comes b y on the radio, it goes up in volume and we do a little dance!

  5. So fun reading your 20 Things! :) I need to check out some of these songs you mentioned too – I love Lady A – such great tunes. And I'm 100% with you on the pet peeve with cell phones! Why hang out with me, if you are on your phone?! :)

    1. Thanks, Jamie – it was a WAY fun post. :)

Lady A is an awesome band; I'm kind of sad they don't get more recognition; eager for their new album this fall.

Ooo! I like that – why hang out with us if you only want to be on your phone?? Good question! :)

  6. Great post! That picture of Alex Knightley made me smile. :) And I definitely agree about cell phones. I don't like them at all, and I hate how it seems they've taken over everything. Thanks for tagging me…I'll try to do this soon! :)

    1. Isn't that picture of Alex darling?? I couldn't resist – I think there were a couple others I hit "save" on for options, but I immediately picked this one when loading it into Blogger. So cute.

Cell phones have a time and place, and can be fun, but like anything, they shouldn't "take over."

Yay! Hope you can join in. If not, that's okay, too. :)

  7. So fun, Rissi. "Meant to be Mine' is def. on my to read list. That cover alone always sticks out to me.
I agree about the Etsy thing. Love to craft and all that but I just haven't gotten into browsing this site; perhaps that is the best for my wallet :)

    Shaina, Tyndale House @Crazy4Fiction

    1. Hi, Shaina! Thanks (as always) for dropping by. Always appreciate it.

Meant to be Mine ranks up there with Susan May Warren's latest for me. It was beautiful and elegant and charming and so much more. Hope you enjoy it – and yes! That cover is unique.

Yeah, Etsy hasn't become an obsession for me – where I don't spend money on that, I do on books. The dollar well spent methinks. ;)

  8. That was fun, Rissi! Not that I'd want to do that after I did the other one… I rather dislike talking about myself, but I love hearing about everyone else. :)

  9. SO fun! :)

You've mentioned Taylor's song before, I really need to listen to it soon.

Ganise mentioned Meant To Be Mine as well. I'm thinking I need to listen to you ladies and move it up my TBR! :)

Mr Thornton, Mr Tilney, Mr Knightley (LOVE that pic!)……..*dreamy sigh* ;D

Aren't those "favorite" questions so hard to answer?! I always have to go with current favorites myself. Because they're constantly changing!

Loved getting to know you a little better, Rissi. And now you've convinced me to go watch Emma Approved some more thanks to that picture…..

    1. These questions were just fun! :)

It's just a nice, happy-go-lucky song that makes me anxious to see what else Taylor has for us on 1989. :)

Meant to be Mine is beautiful. Hope you like it.

Right?? Is there a better group of gentleman? Me, too – that photo is just awesome! :D

Excellent plan, Kara. I try and pick new favorite too.

Same to you – enjoyed getting to know you through your 20 things, too. :)

  10. Hello Rissi!

Loved reading this! I must apologize for not "regularly" dropping by as often. Life can be crazy sometimes at my end. What I wouldn't give to "blog-hop" all day with fellow bloggers. But alas, it's not to be so! Did I just go old english on you? Haha!

    1. Hi, Miranda! No apologies necessary. I completely understand and find myself much the same situation – I must regularly visit yours as well; my excuse is I don't visit my WordPress reader as much as I should. *sigh* Time does have a way of getting away, doesn't it?

Thanks for visiting – and yes! Old English is awesome though, right?? :)
