Top Ten Tuesday: New Series to Start

This is seriously one of the most fun topics the Top Ten Tuesday ladies have asked us to put together yet. Especially since, for me it applies so well - you guys know how often I use some form of the phrase, "must read this one soon." There are not merely a whole ton load of stand alones books I still must read (just check out my bookshelves and there is proof of this), there are plenty of series mixed in with that. So, let's get started shall we - and as always, be sure to leave your Top Ten Tuesday links. I'd love to visit.

Top New Series I Want To Start
(let's say within the last year or two)

the Remnants

Lisa Bergren is the author. That's enough for me.

Season of Wonder (book 1)

Season of Fire (book 2)

Amazon | Goodreads

The Lone City

The cover alone is enough to tempt any reader. Yes, I fell prey.

The Jewel

Amazon | Goodreads

Rebel Belle

These look fun and there are good reports, plus book one is on my shelf.

   Rebel Belle  (book 1)

Miss Mayhem (book 2)

Nantucket

Technically this series is older than just two years, but come on. It looks and sounds like a must.

Surrender Bay

The Convenient Groom

Seaside Letters

Driftwood Lane

Throne of Glass

This one showed up SO much on my Twitter timeline this summer, I *had* to buy book one.

Throne of Glass (book 1)

Amazon | Goodreads

Crown of Midnight (book 2)

Amazon | Goodreads

Heir of Fire (book 3)

Amazon | Goodreads

The Lunar Chronicles

Everyone says these books are a must and if my regular peeps word wasn't enough, I just watched a booktuber's video who insists these do live up to the hype. What is wrong with me?

Cinder (book 1)

Amazon | Goodreads

Scarlet (book 2)

Amazon | Goodreads

Cress (book 3)

Amazon | Goodreads

Defiance Trilogy

I've read this is a unique series from readers I trust.

Defiance (book 1)

Amazon | Goodreads

Deception (book 2)

Amazon | Goodreads

Deliverance (book 3)

Amazon | Goodreads

The Winner's Trilogy

Again, I'm being shallow - the pretty covers! And, the stories do sound good.

The Winner's Curse (book 1)

Amazon | Goodreads

The Winner's Crime (book 2)

Amazon | Goodreads

A Year of Weddings

These novellas from Thomas Nelson sound so sweet. Eager to collect the paperbacks.

  2. Love the Year of Weddings stories, they have the Winter Brides {Dec-Feb brides} book that is coming out soon. I have it in my kindle reader getting ready to start it after I finish November Bride. LOVE Jewel it was way better than Matched or The Selection series. Here's my review: http://faithfullyreading.wordpress.com/2014/09/21/the-jewel/

    1. That's great to know, Shannon; I've been eager to read both the Year of Weddings novellas (anxious to collect those paperback collections) as well as The Jewel which sounds great - I'll be sure to read your review too! Thanks.

  3. Remnants should be on my list too. I'm currently reading the Lunar Chronicles. Seriously, what are you waiting for? And like you I've not read the Nantucket series yet either.

  4. Interesting list, Rissi!
Yay for "Remnants" (wish book 2 would hurry and release!).
"The Lunar Chronicles" are amazingly fun reads- as I've no doubt told you numerous times- but the release date for the last book is too far off. :-(
I want to read "Throne of Glass," but it seems it's one of those books you either like or don't. I think it looks good, seen others like it, but I've also read from others that it was boring. Still, the little bit I did read I liked. Guess I'll have to judge for myself if I ever get around to fully reading it.
As for the "Defiance" trilogy, I bought the first one for my Nook sometime during summer of last year. I loved the cover, and synopsis was interesting.... I never got around to reading it, though, lol.
Hope you'll enjoy these if you ever get around to reading them! :-D

    1. Thanks, Grace - it is different from the norm, but I've read most of my "normal" genre series, so... I got creative. ;)

Ditto on those "Remnants" books; it's from the awesome Lisa Bergren, so it must be grand. YES! But, I need these pushes to read Lunar Chronicles or so it seems. I really wanted to read them this summer and alas, I was kept busy with other books.

Yeah, I've heard readers didn't care for Heir of Fire as well, but beyond that, I've heard great things - also I've been told to read the novella collection first, cannot remember what it's called, but the publisher has them all together in a pretty hardback and it's by the same author.

Thanks - and same to you, I hope you get around to reading any you haven't yet and maybe Defiance too! :)

  5. You should definitely read the Lunar Chronicles soon. But then, you've already heard that from me. :)

Most of these aren't new (some of them have been out for years), but here are some series that I've been meaning to start:

-The Cadence of Grace series, by Joanne Bischof
-the Katie Parker books, by Jenny B. Jones
-Wings of the Nightingale series, by Sarah Sundin
-Backstage Pass series, by Janice Thompson
-The Sisters Grimm series, by Michael Buckley
-River of Time series, by Lisa Tawn Bergren (and her Grand Tour series, too)

With most of those, I own at least one book in the series. But in some cases they were thrift store finds so they aren't the first in the series, which is what's holding me back from reading them. :)

And that's not even counting several more series that I've started and want to finish...

    1. P.S. I saw you mention BookTube...do you watch many of those videos? And if so, would you consider doing a post sometime about your favorite BookTube channels? I love watching them and I'm always looking for new recommendations. :)

    2. Thanks, Kristin - and the more "pushes" I get to read the Lunar books, the better, because... ahh! I really do want to read those books. Intended to this summer and well, here we are. Perhaps they should go on my Winter TBR. ;)

      - Joanne's books are an EXCELLENT pick. Loved the two I read by her.
      - Loved the first Katie Parker novel - so fun and sassy, typical Jenny B. Jones.
      - Sarah has a great storytelling voice, so I hope you enjoy those books.
      - Backstage Pass = FUN!
      - Haven't read the Grimm series, but... ooo, I'm intrigued.
      - Haven't read Lisa's River of Time books (note to self: bad blogger), but I have her Grand Tour books, and they're quite good.

I get that; totally understand why you would want to wait for book one, I prefer that as well though sometimes I get impatient or "have" to read the book because it was a review copy. Here's hoping you can find more thrift store finds of the first books. :)

I do watch several BookTube channels, though haven't found any that prominently feature Christian fiction. I certainly can throw together a post featuring them because some of the booktubers I watch have a fun personality, which in turn makes their recommendations stand out because of how they talk about them. And that'd be fun because we could chat up the fun world of booktube by sharing the channels we like best. :)

I want to read The Remnants series too. Maybe I will get around to it in the coming year:)

I recently read Cinder ( and posted a review of it). I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to
reading the two sequels to it in the future.

    1. Thanks, Ella! This one was really easy to put together, so that was a refreshing "break" from the norm. ;) Yay for Lisa's series; I'm excited about that and am pretty sure I have book one on my Kindle app, so now I just *need* to read it - as you say, hopefully in the coming year, and the best part of being behind is not having to endure the wait! :)

Wonderful; I'll definitely be by to read your review of Cinder, I hear nothing but good things. :)

  14. Ooh, this gives me some new books to add to my TBR list! I'm with you on The Lunar Chronicles (which I still can't believe I haven't started yet), Remnants, and the Rebel Belle books. I hadn't heard of the Defiance Trilogy but it sounds intriguing. As for the Nantucket series…those covers are breathtaking :D

    1. Fun! It's kind of a catch-22 when adding new books to our TBR, right!? ;)

I shouldn't, but I have to say, I'm glad I'm not the only girl who has yet to read the Lunar books - it makes me feel better. ;) As for the others, I hope you find some new ones to enjoy - I'm looking forward to those as well plus yes! Those covers of Nantucket ARE indeed gorgeous. :)

  15. So far, I'm sticking pretty good to my decision to not start a series until all the books were out. The Lunar Chronicles is the lone exception. *sigh* Why does it have to be another entire YEAR until Winter?! But yes, you should absolutely read them! Although feel free to use my excuse of waiting til all the books are out, because trust me, the wait is horrid. ;)

Definitely intrigued by The Remnants series and Throne of Glass. The latter one has me just itching to read them. But I can tell that I'll reach the third one and have to wait forever. So I'm trying to hold out. Not sure I'll make it, but I'm trying! ;)

    1. I should do that too considering how far behind I am on my series but like with Christian novels, I *have* to read them if I want to review though fortunately, most in that genre don't end on a cliffhanger! This is the only good thing about not reading the Lunar books yet - less wait between books! As of now, I could marathon the first three. :)

Not sure I'll hold out with Throne of Glass either. Everywhere I turn there is MORE comments about that one. *sigh* Oh the dilemmas we face!
