WEDDING PLANNER MYSTERY (2014)

by

The second movie (inspired by a series of books by Deborah Donnelly) to air on the all-new Hallmark Movies and Mysteries brand, this fluffy movie is cute. It follows the exploits of the perfectionist, but curious wedding planner, Carnegie Kincaid (Erica Durance). Her one big chance to make a break is interrupted by a murder; a crime that entangles the wealthy, what-they-say-goes Parry family. With the help of an annoying, yet inquisitive reporter Aaron Gold (Andrew W. Walker) and the handsome family lawyer Holt Walker (Brandon Beemer), Carnegie plans to solve a murder that the police like her as a suspect. This is particularly true of Det. Borden (Rick Ravanell). All of this she juggles while planning a wedding worthy of her client.

TV FILM REVIEW | ‘THE WEDDING DO-OVER’: A SWEET PIXL ROMANTIC COMEDY

If my blog content of late gives you an inkling that I’m a fan of nearly anything this network puts out, you’re correct. This one is no different. If you’re a fan of the quintessential rom-com like Monster-In-Law, Marry Me, The Wedding Planner or 27 Dresses, you’ll enjoy this movie. This easily has plenty of things to endear it while sprinkling in mystery hints, I’ll admit, make me waver. Turns out, I should have know better – especially considering the many times I’ve seen this story done, but… still, it’s fun to play a guessing game.

The cast is sassy and fun! Particularly Erica who not only has a cool character name (way to be unique), she plays the role well and off the men who surround her as supporting characters in an equally entertaining way. Each scene makes you flip-flop in how you want the outcome to play out and leaves us wondering who we’re rooting for (aside from Carnegie.). This is just part of the reason this one stands out, and I applaud the writer’s for that.

Like others that have been serialized, this too could be the start of a series that would certainly be a whole lot of fun!  Wedding Planner Mystery is just the right kind of rainy-night entertainment. It’s lighthearted, has a fantastic cast and even though it falls into some of the same clichés, there’s a beat to the story that ‘s unique. Maybe it’s the cast that works well together, but whatever, this is yet another mystery to solve. Mark this in your planner to make a date with – Carnegie and Company.

  1. Yay! Thanks so much for sharing this…I am SO excited to check this one out. I am a huge Erica Durance fan and The Wedding Planner, Monster-in-Law, & 27 Dresses are some of my all time favorite rom-coms. I haven't seen Marry Me though, so I'll have to check that one out as well. Love this review, Rissi! :)

    1. Hope you enjoyed it, Bekah. I thought it was super cute and make made me think of all those favorite rom-coms. Who doesn't enjoy a cute chick flick now and again, right?! ;)

I don't know that I've seen Erica in much to be honest, however she was awesome as the savvy heroine in this one, so you'll likely enjoy seeing her in this too.

      Thanks for reading.

    2. I watched it with my sisters last night! We had fun trying to figure out "whodunnit" and thought it was pretty cute. There were times, though, when we just started cracking up at the cheesiness. Haha! Thanks again for sharing…it was nice to have something to watch last night and we had fun with this one! :)

    3. Totally get that, Bekah; there is always some "cheese" in these TV films, but they're usually too cute to not like. Glad you and your sister's enjoyed – and I'm glad to share about this one. There are plenty more Hallmark review/posts to come. :)

    1. That would be fun, right!? They're so cute and as you said, they're definitely a favorite guilty pleasure, one I'm not willing to give up. :)

  2. Hi, Rissi! Hope you won't mind if I let your readers know that "Wedding Planner Mystery" is based on a novel called "Veiled Threats," which is the first of six Carnegie Kincaid Wedding Planner Mysteries. The books aren't quite as fluffy as the Hallmark movie, but my readers have enjoyed them. Thanks for the review!
