Month in Review: December 2014

Hello, friends. Here we have the second "month in review" on this blog which is set to chronicle some of the blog's content and I'm also going to be talking about some of my favorites from this month or new finds. Let's start that countdown to 2015. First up the new finds (one find I am sort of ADDICTED to), then we'll discuss the blog's month and some of the content yet to come.

......Favorites.......

1.) Christmas Movies: there was LOTS of Christmas cheer featured on the blog this past month (or maybe more so in November) in the form of all those Christmas movies. Basically I just loved having the chance to watch and review them. My apologies in advance, but before the week is out, there may be one more movie review post that features Christmas movies. What can I say, I'm still watching them!

Featured Movie (in photo): Best Christmas Party Ever

2.) Libib App: Friends, I *just* found this app and am lovin' it to say the least. What does it do you ask? It allows us to catalog all of our books, films and/or music. Please tell me, I'm not the only girl who mistakenly rebuys books!? Since I downloaded it, I actually have been having fun by scanning the items into the app like crazy. It's a fun task. Right now my phone cannot handle it, however my tablet is doing the work for now. When I get that new phone, I'm eager to have this all loaded onto it so that next time I'm at B&N, there'll be no more re-buys.

The app is free to download on Google Play.

3.) L'Oreal: it's only been recently that I've jumped onto the "red lipstick" fashion trend. When I wear lipstick which isn't all the time, I tend to prefer more natural colors or "barely there" shades, but I've boldly worn red a time or two. Now I just need to find a favorite brand/shade. I'd like to find something that isn't orange red or flaming red. I found the "perfect" red nail polish, so I think I can find the best lip color.

4.) Pentatonix, That's Christmas to Me: Just recently discovered this group. I'm sort of in awe of their sound. For anyone who doesn't know who this group is, they are past winners from The Sing-off and are an acapella group. It's amazing how great they sound using nothing but their vocals to cover both instruments and vocals. Beautiful.

5.) INSPYs 2015: ICYMI, the 2015 nomination form has opened for the fifth season of the INSPYs Awards. We're glad to see the nominations rolling in and happy that you have so many favorites. Just a couple of quick reminders that should have been noted in some of our blog posts. You can nominate one book in each of the seven categories, but only one nomination per person, per category is allowed. Here's our tweet about it:

Have more than 1 book to nominate for a specific category? Pick your VERY favorite. We can only accept 1 nomination per category per person
— InspyAwards (@INSPYs) December 28, 2014

Secondly, please remember that we do not accept self-published books or authors nominating their own books. We will approve each nomination that comes in so anything that doesn't match the book criteria will be eliminated from consideration.

(My) Blog Favorites:

1.) Dear Santa, Top Ten Tuesday Style: had fun putting this one together!
2.) Book Discussion, Reviewing Books: Thanks for all the fun convos with this post, readers!
3.) If I Stay (Movie) and If I Stay, by Gayle Forman: Surprisingly watching and reading this was one of my favorite movie and book adaptation experiences.

Cassie, Jamie and Jody Hedlund:

Fabulous bloggers Cassie and Jamie are hosting a Jody Hedlund read-a-long. This is so cool since I don't see a lot of these in our small Christian book community. Great job, ladies! If you want to join, they have all the info on their sites.

Silver Petticoat:

I continued to recap The Flash for Silver Petticoat earlier this month - and more excitedly, I'm recapping Downton Abbey in January, but I wanted to let you know that I also reviewed The Giver if you care to read those thoughts.

That's the month in review here at Dreaming Under the Same Moon.

It's been a good month and one FULL of Christmas reviews and I'm hoping to review a current "blockbuster" soon. Also coming is a possible giveaway.

Have any thoughts or favorite finds from the month? Share if you'd like!

Hope you're looking forward to ushering in January - a new year is almost here!

Let that countdown begin...

Happy 2015, friends. Hope you have a wonderful 2015 and with a new year, have some wonderful goals or dreams to usher in with the new. Thanks for being a part of this blog and for the friendships.

    1. That app is awesome, Ganise! I cannot wait until it's on a phone I have so that next time I'm book shopping, I won't waver on whether or not I have the book. ;)

Yay! Thank you bunches for nominating. We're excited about INSPYs, year five.

Happy 2015 to you as well. Hope your year is great. :)

    1. It's awesome, Jamie! I'm actually having fun scanning things into it when I have some time to waste. Last week when I was cleaning, I put most of the DVD's into it, next is finishing the books! There are a lot. ;) Glad I'm not the only one who rebuys books. Sometimes it makes me feel like I'm losing my mind.

My pleasure! I added your blog links (sorry about that) which I didn't put in during my last minute rush to finish this last night. *sigh* 2015 needs more organization in my blogging. ;)

Happy New Year, to you as well, Jamie! Hope it's a great year, friend. :)

  3. I've never heard of the libid app. I'll have to check it out. And a red lipstick. Yeah those can be hard to find. In our line, we have Red, Really Red, Sizzling Red (which I've recently discovered as being a nice red), Firecracker, and Spice N Nice (a brownish-red). But like you, I don't wear a lot of red lipsticks though it makes my blue eyes pop when I do. Hope you find one that works for you.

    1. Libib is awesome, Dawn! I'm particularly fond of it since I'm a book addict. ;) I don't seem to forget my music/DVD's like I do books. Sometimes when I rebuy them I it makes me wonder about this memory. ;)

Thanks for sharing your shades of red! They sound pretty. I'm not a big advocate of red in general, but sometimes it's fun to change things. :)

Same here Rissi! I tend to go for the neutral/muted pinks but this year I've started using red a bit and wasn't too petrified about it, lol. And red nail polish too (as I mentioned on IG, my nail polish is usually blue and black--the cooler/darker colours xP)

Happy New Year, friend! Wishing you all the best--and plenty of books to read!--for 2015 ;)

    1. This red lipstick trend is huge these days. Overall, my whole makeup routine is all about the minimalist look. I don't wear eyeshadow (or rarely) as I've gotten older either. Guess I'm the kind of girl who likes "less" over "more." Sometimes it's fun to do something different and that's why I've worn red a time or two. As for nail polish, I'm big into black too. Why... I don't know, but I am. ;)

Happy New Year to you also! Hope your year is great - and of course, full of books! ;) Thanks - as always - for commenting, friend.

  5. Thank you, Rissi, for the awesome update & review of your fantastic site! I am so glad to "know" you! By the way, I am still catching up on those Christmas movies, too! I always say... So many movies, so little time!

I also enjoy your book suggestions, although I am terribly behind since the holidays... and I agree, Pentatonix's "That's Christmas to Me" is great!

God bless you & Have a Blessed, Happy New Year! Net

    1. Hi, Net! Thank YOU for reading. Just recently started putting these together, but many of the bloggers who I frequently visit with put something similar together, and I'm now giving it a go. It's fun. :)

Christmas movies are awesome... and I'm still watching them! Just watched The Christmas Ornament (for the first time) earlier this week. Aww, how cute was it!? :)

Pentatonix is a new find, but their music..! Wow. Definitely worth buying.

Happy New Year to you and your family! Thanks for all you do in keeping us in the know with TV films. It's always a pleasure to chat with you. Have a blessed 2015! :)

  6. Libib app? That sounds awesome and I'll probably download it.I would love to have a place to catalog my personal library. Although, I do purge my shelves now and then, so I'll have to make sure I keep track!!

I have an Inspys question!! I might have missed it, but can you tell me when the deadline for nominating books is? Thanks, girl! I've been waiting to nominate, but don't want to wait too long and miss it!

And thanks so much for the shout out! I'm super excited about the challenge, and I so appreciate your support!

    1. Libib IS epic, Cassie - and I'm so glad to have seen your tweet saying you liked it. Like you, I do go through and "unhaul" now and again (my office proves that - I've got BOXES of books everywhere), so I'll have to keep track too. Right now, my shelves are pretty good I think.

The INSPYs close on January 16th. Hope you found some good ones to nominate. :)

Yay for that read along challenge. Hope you and Jamie (and everyone) have fun. :)

  8. Happy 2015!! :D

Oh my gosh, Pentatonix is wonderful! I have enjoyed their other albums, but I think this Christmas album is my favorite so far. White Winter Hymnal was a favorite song already and they only made me love it more. :) And I keep forgetting Downton starts Sunday--HOORAY!

    1. Happy 2015 to you as well, Rachel; hope it's a great year!

Pentatonix is so cool! There was an article in the WSJ about record labels wanting them to add instruments. I'm hoping any album they release in 2015 keeps to their vocals only group because that's what makes their sound unique. Three cheers for Downton! Feel free to join us at Silver Petticoat to chat it up. :)
