Downton Abbey (+ MORE) Giveaway

Keeping with tradition of past year, since the US premiere of Downton Abbey aired last night, we're celebrating with a chance for you to win it's fifth season. If anyone wants to gush - or rant works too - about it, you can check out my weekly recaps on Silver Petticoat. My hope is to write some sort of collective review on this season later this month, in which case, we can chat it up then too... if you're wanting to. If you're not a costume drama fan, well... I also have an extra copy of Guardians of the Galaxy up for grabs. I actually bought more copies than I need during the Christmas season. But it was such a good deal... well, I didn't mind.

The rules of the giveaway are same as always, but I'll still post them below:

This giveaway(s) is open to US readers. I do ask that anyone who leaves a comment under "anonymous," please leave the same name you enter into the widget in your comment - it's not nearly as easy to try and match comments when there is no name and in fairness to everyone else, I want to be able to be sure everyone who used the Rafflecopter correctly has a fair chance at winning against those who abuse it - believe it or not, there have been a couple people that I could not verify. So please, I don't mean to overwhelm, but just keep this in mind when entering future giveaways. I'd sure appreciate it! Winner(s) will have 48 hours to respond to the email notification before another winner is randomly chosen.

The giveaway closes on January 13th and of course series five doesn't release until the END of January. But, once it arrives at my house, it'll be passed along to you.

Guardians of the Galaxy

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team-the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits-Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand-with the galaxy's fate in the balance. - Rotten Tomatoes

  3. Downton Abbey! I have to admit, Season 4 left me a little burnt out on the show. It just felt...slow and sad, not as crisp as in seasons past. Of course, it could've been I was still pouting about [SPOILER FOR ANYONE WHO HASN'T SEEN S3] the loss of Matthew. Actually, after watching S4, I had to go back and rewatch the early seasons to remind myself why I like the show. :) I'll confess to already having seen most of S5 and am happy to report, I think it does a good job turning the ship back around.

And Guardians of the Galaxy!!! I loved it so much.

    1. I think a lot of fans were put off by S4 (after S3's end), Melissa. It was indeed very sad. :/ I think I viewed S4 are an admirable season (collectively) because it paid homage SPOILER to Matthew and all he meant to Mary. For her character, it did seem like the world was ending because of the struggles the two went through and because she doesn't love easily. END

I'm so glad you liked what you saw of S5! I'd love to know what you think of it once you see it all. :) It's so good... or I think so. :)

'Guardians' is loveable. And fun! It surprised me how much to be honest. :)

  4. Love this show! I don't care what people say about S4, I thought it was very well done and I think S5 is going to be just as good. Oh, I think it's awesome that Edith's picture is being used on the spine of the case too.

    1. I agree, Ivy. I though S4 was very well done, but do understand how fans might not care for it as well. It's tough to say goodbye to a favorite character especially when you've watched the struggle it took for he and Mary to get to happy. Edith is a somewhat sad character, but after S5, I hope she is finally coming into her own! Enjoy!

    1. S1 was brilliant all around because of the writing. But I do like each of the seasons since for their own reasons. Five is just lovely (basically) and I'm thrilled with the characterization of Branson and Mary's friendship this go-round. It's come so very far. :)

  9. I'm so excited about season 5! Season 4 wasn't a favorite, but it had its moments. I've spent the last month or so rewatching the whole show so that really got me in the mood for the new season. :) Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Yay! Well, here's hoping S5 is better for you, Kristin. I really liked S4 (merely for how well it paid tribute to a certain character) and with exception to one or two of Mary's issues and of course, the Bates, I loved S5 as well. There is some lighthearted moments with Rose and I always love Mary and Branson's friendship. Enjoy! :)

  11. LOVED the first episode of season 5! I wasn't a fan of season 4 (especially the horrible Anna-Bates-Green plot), but the season premiere was definitely a return to happier Downton. (Though it does appear that we're not finished with the repercussions of that plot.) But seriously, Thomas? Every time I think he's finally going to get what's coming to him, something happens and he "redeems" himself. Someday ... And I have to mention the Dowager Countess--she completely cracks me up. What a conniver!

I was pleasantly surprised by Guardians of the Galaxy. I didn't expect much of it, but it was fantastic--especially all the old pop culture references.

    1. I'm so glad, Becky! Hope you continue liking S5. I'm right there with you. If I had to point to one misstep in S4, it'd be the Bates subplot. That was just NOT cool. You're right. There are more issues with that subplot... here's hoping Julian Fellowes realizes his errors and quits picking on this couple. I like them so very much.

Thomas... he drives me nuts with his conniving ways. I don't know why he doesn't get caught at his game. *sigh* Ah, well. The Dowager Countess is forever a favorite character. Those witty quips get me every time.

I thought 'Guardians' was quite good too. Someday I'll try to get a review written for it.

  15. I just watched Guardians of the Galaxy recently and liked it more than I expected (I thought a talking raccoon would turn me off but he was funny) so thanks for the giveaway! I think the movies I'm looking forward to in 2015 are Cinderella, Avengers, Mockingjay (though haven't watched Part 1 yet), and Star Wars (just have to see what JJAbrams does with it).

    1. I get that, Lis. When I saw the trailer for 'Guardians,' I didn't realize it was Marvel, or something because it looked too silly. That being said, once I heard good things about it and being the Marvel fangirl I am, I "had" to watch it. :) Hooray for your list of 2015 movies! I'm looking forward to seeing both parts of Mockingjay as well. Haven't seen any of THG films in theaters so maybe I should see part 2 when the time comes. :)

    1. Yay, me too, Bethany! I adore Anna. Wish Julian Fellowes would give her a break. Poor Bates'. They can't seem to live in peace. *sigh* As for your anticipation list... those are all on mine as well. Looking like a great year of blockbusters. :)
