Favorite Books (Top Ten Tuesday Edition)

There are too many books that I could classify as "favorites." I feel like I give five-star ratings to a lot of books where I see Goodreads users tend to max out at four-stars. I suppose generally speaking, I'm easy to please with a fictional story (despite my sometimes griping book reviews, which are experiences I have learned from and putting aside past mistakes, feel like I'm slowly learning the "art" of likes vs. dislike reviewing). If I like the story and the leading characters, I'm likely to keep that book on my shelf.

Below I've complied a list of books that I did enjoy for their genre, the story, the creativity or any number of reasons. Although this doesn't come close to the books that I consider favorites, I tried to pick some titles and/or authors that I don't feature often yet did enjoy reading. This way, my list - hopefully, has some variety.

Top Ten Books You Would Classify As ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOKS from the past 3 years
(you can extend it to 5 if you need to)

This was probably the first (secular) YA book I read in recent years and I loved its fairytale qualities. Does it have flaws? Of course, but then what book doesn't?

Recently read this (secular) contemporary romance and loved it. Little slow in the beginning, but the romance is so sweet.

Read this one for last year's INSPYs and it was so good. Maybe not in the traditional sense, but the unusual story is what makes it good.

I've gushed about this one enough. We'll leave it at that.

PS; this one is out in stores today - go forth and buy it, readers!

Another INSPY read from the one year I was fortunate enough to be a judge.

Book two in this series recently released (December I believe) which reminded me how much I did enjoy this novel. Now to read book two...

LOVED this story and am so grateful to have been sent a copy to review! Cannot wait to publish the review and chat it up with you all.

Another sweet YA novel with a fairytale quality.

Amber's debut NA contemporary (novella) is probably my favorite from her to date.

Though I enjoy this book for more reasons than one, mainly I picked this book because it's the novel that reminded me how much I love contemporary fiction.

Your turn!

Which books would you put on a list like this? I'm curious.

  1. I need to read The Runaway Princess! I bought it from Book Outlet after reading Ruth's review of it, but I haven't read it yet. And I love My Stubborn Heart. :) It's still my favorite of Becky Wade's books.

    1. Ruth's review is fantastic and I think that's why I nabbed a copy as well. I finally read it for the "Top List" I put together for Silver Petticoat and it was really cute! Secular fiction, but one of the cleaner ones I've read. :)

I adore anything by Becky. This book is the one that reminded me I love contemporary romances, so for that reason (and many more!), it's a favorite. :)

  2. Great books picks there, a few I haven't read and will add to my never ending list. Have you read Listen by Renee? If you liked Misery Loves Company you might like Listen. It was really good? Really made you think.

    1. I know, right, Rosie!? This was tough! The only way I was able to make this work was try to think of books I don't feature much over here - i.e., I love Dani's, Melissa's, Rachel's, Denise's, Irene's books along with MANY others, but they get a lot of blog time. Not that I mind. ;D

Hope you do post about your list! It'd be a fabulous read. :)

  7. I ran out of room on my list before I could add The Princess in the Opal Mask! I needed a favorite twenty list instead.;)
I will have to check out The Runaway Princess!
Misery Loves Company was pretty different, but jot in a bad way.;)

    1. I hear you, Amanda. Far too many favorites to be fair... but well, these are just some of mine.

Yay, hope you enjoy The Runaway Princess. It's quite fun.

...yes, definitely! Misery Loves Company IS different, but that's why I loved it. :D

  8. I've only read 'The Selection' and about half of 'These Broken Stars' (I know, I'm terrible and never finished it) from this list, but I recognize the rest! Ahhh, so many good books to read. I'm especially excited to get my hands on 'An Uncertain Choice'. Great list, Rissi! :)

    2. I had some trouble getting through These Broken Stars too, Bekah but I really wound up liking it. Oddly enough, I wasn't as excited about book two, but a blog friend recently said she read/loved it, so I'll have to try and read book two in the near future. Yay! Hope you like An Uncertain Choice. :D

Thanks... I had trouble with this one and am still trying to figure out where/how to change the color of links... but well, for now, at least it's operating. ;)

    3. Really, you did too? I think I would really like it as well, but I just got "stuck" and never finished. I'll get back to it eventually!

I had the SAME problem when I changed my blog theme. After two months, I finally found this little text color button thingy (haha) and now I manually put in pink every time. I hope you can figure it out faster than I did! Haha :)

    4. I did indeed! It was slow going at first, but I kept at it and in the end thought it was really a great book. Plus, those covers are just too beautiful not to have something interesting in its story. ;) Hope if you get back to it, you like it.

That's a good idea! I think I could do that too, but then when I go and change colors/themes my links won't change color automatically. Ah, well. I did figure out how to change the link when its "hovered" over, so there is that! :D

  9. Great list! The Selection is one of my favorites too. I'm glad to see An Uncertain Choice on your list because I'm actually currently reading that! These Broken Stars is one that I started a while ago but for some reason never finished. I'm a new follower-I love your blog! Have a great week!

  11. Loved The Selection Series can't wait until her fourth one comes out. (Plus she has to be one of the kindest authors I have ever met.) Can't wait to try The Uncertain Choice. I have My Stubborn Heart on my Kindle but I have yet to read it. I guess it's time to bumped that one up my to-read list.

    1. Aw, that's fun to know, Kaylee! I don't know that I've ever met an author, but it'd definitely be an awesome thing. From her YouTube channel, Kiera seems like a fun person. Me too! Eager for that fourth book to be in my hands.

Hope you enjoy An Uncertain Choice and My Stubborn Heart! :)

  12. Argh favourites from the last three years? That's like trying to pick my favourite meal of the last three years! Um, okay, adiored adored Susan Meissner's A Fall of Marigolds, loved Tracy Groot's The Sentinels of Andersonville, Meant to be Mine I gave a standing round of applause to Becky Wade for managing to get the word "libido" into a CBA novel, Katie Ganshert' A Broken Kind of Beautiful was stunning and Kate Morton is incapable of writing anything less than genius so I'll round it out with her The Secret Keeper :)

    1. I could have named SO many more, Kara and in fact had a hard time not listing one specific book, but it's currently under consideration for an INSPY. I'm so glad you have some great books on your list and I will agree, these contemporary authors are upping their game in the best possible way. :)
