Month in Review: May 2015

Hello, readers. We've reached that day on the calendar. Here we have month five's "review," "rewind" or what have you, a compiling of... stuff. Basically it's a monthly post I throw together that recaps some of the blog's content and various other random things - for example, things I've found on the interwebs or me babbling about wanting to find a cute, versatile, smart-looking summer dress (the dilemma continues). Today we're marking the sixth-month date of this new year. Like, what!? Is it just me or has 2015 flown by. Please, slow down. There are things to do. Places to be. Experiences to be had. Tasks to be complete. Speaking of which, let's get this month in review started.

Favorites:

1.) Armchair BEA 2015: Took part in the Armchair BEA even this past week. It was fun, but if I participate again, I plan on giving myself more time for organizing. The final day suggested a giveaway, which is that still going on.

2.) Dress Shopping: Ah, yes. The dress shopping continues. I have found a few dresses I like and most recently discovered an on-line store called Chic Wish. Curious, have you ever shopped there?

3.) Music: I have been busy replenishing my playlists with some new tunes. I blogged about it earlier this month if you're interested.

4.) Recipes: Made a yummy new chicken recipe called Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken. If you like any kind of stir-fry recipe, this is similar minus the vegetables, but still, it the category. So yummy. It's rhubarb season, so my other cooking fun is all about that. Yummy muffins included.

5.) Skittles: Weird topic to mention? Well, maybe... but I'm clearly desperate. I discovered the "orchard" flavors and just had to mention them. For an unhealthy vice, they're quite yummy.

6.) Summer TV Season: With all of the anticipatory news about the fall 2015 TV season, we've kind of forgotten about the summer 2015 schedule. One of the shows I'm curious about is USA Network's Complications. I recently caught the promotional trailer, and guys, it looks interesting. What makes it more so is its creator, Matt Nix, the mind behind Burn Notice.

(My) Blog Favorites

1.) Cover Candy, Edition 24: Chatting about pretty covers? Never a bad thing.

2.) First Look at CBS and DC Comics Supergirl: Three cheers for this new DC Comics adaptation!

3.)  A Love Like Ours, by Becky Wade: Another sweet contemporary by Becky.

4.) The Musketeers, Season Two (2015):  LOVE (lovelove) this series.

Silver Petticoat: This past month I got to review the fantabulous ITV series Grantchester. If you've not yet seen this series, you really should. It's an entertaining 1950's series about a vicar who is haunted by his past and of course, there's murder mysteries to be solved along with some romance. Basically, for now it's my latest BBC obsession.

What else was I up to on Silver Petticoat? I also reviewed the whimsical I Capture the Castle (really fun movie so long as you know it's not traditional); recapped the final episode of The Flash (what'd you think of the finale?); read and reviewed Morgan Matson's Amy and Roger's Epic Detour (so. cute.); and got to fangirl over BBC's The Musketeers romances in yesterday's Romantic Moment of the Week. There is D'Artagnan and Constance and of course, the forbidden love between Aramis and Anne. Are you rooting for these couples?

  1. Eek, I missed all of this! I'm definitely going to check out some of the posts you mentioned here. :) I like the sound of Chic Wish! I certainly need a new dress for the summer. I want ModCloth dresses so badly, but my bank account can't rationalize them.

Where do you get rhubarb?? I can't ever find any around here, but strawberry rhubarb pie is my absolute favorite and have been dying for some for AGES.

    1. Thanks, Rachel! I've missed lots of awesome-ness on your blog too and plan to remedy that today. (Which may mean, I'll be binge-commenting on your posts later. :D) I do too! I saw one dress on Chic Wish that looked really cute. My cousin is getting married later this month and a new dress seemed like a good idea - plus who can pass up the chance to get a new dress!? (There's a convenient excuse and all!) ModCloth is really cute! I love Shabby Apple as well, but hear you about the cost.

My family has a small rhubarb plan in our back yard. It's really nice to have, especially if one likes rhubarb! I hope you can find some, because that strawberry rhubarb pies sounds divine. :)

  2. Looks like you had some good times in May. I agree, though, that 2015 is quickly slipping away. Wasn't it just Easter, Valentine's... Christmas 2014?! And oooo, Skittles. I haven't had a skittle in... wow, can't even remember.
I have to say that this month wasn't the best do some life problems, but May wasn't all bad. I finished reading 7 books, and tried a Caramel Frappe at McDonalds. I'm not a coffee drinker, but boy was that thing good!
Hope you have a great June, Rissi! Best of wishes on finding a dress. The struggle is real when it comes to finding a good dress. :-D

    1. I did. Right!? People like to tell me that's because I'm getting "old," but, well, I refuse to believe that. Not buying it. ;)

Skittles are an unhealthy vice for me... but then, I don't have them all the time.

Yay for Frappe's! My favorite are Starbucks, but I do like McDonalds when I can't get there - and I'm right there with you. I'm so not a coffee drinker, but do enjoy those cold, blended coffee drinks. They're YUM!

I'm sorry to hear you didn't have the best month, Grace. I wish you a much better June and hope things look up. :)

Thanks for commenting - always great to chat with you. (And thanks! I'm planning to find something that will work, speaking to finding a new dress. :D)

  3. I just watched the first three episodes of Grantchester over the weekend and I'm loving it so far! The soundtrack is perfection, too...I love those jazzy songs from the 40s and 50s. :) Is there going to be a second season?

    1. Ahhh! I'm so glad, Kristin. Thanks for coming back and sharing. Everything about it was perfection. The settings, the cast, the characters and of course, that music! Gotta' love great music that puts us right into the era. :)

Yes, thank goodness! A second season is already or soon will be filming. *happy dance*

  4. Good luck with dress shopping. I'm on a dress hunt too. I just posted a few days ago about my vintage dress hunting. I love looking online but finding vintage dresses on a budget is TOUGH! Ha ha. Maybe we'll both have some good luck.

    1. Right back atcha, Renee! I see a lot of vintage dresses, but understand the inexpensive dilemmas. There has to be an awesome place we're missing, right!? My problem is, I'm not sure what I want... I just feel like I know what I'll like when I see it. I hope you can find something that suits you and without breaking that budget. :)
