Newsy TV Stuff

by

Happy Friday friends. Today I’m putting together a random, why-am-I-blogging-about-this kind of post about… that’s right, television shows. Why am I blogging about news in the world of TV renewals? Well, same-old, same-old mantra applies. I didn’t get anything better written up. Plus I have a review that needs to be published tomorrow which meant today could be something random and “easy.”

Rumor has it that ABC is developing a spin-off series of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. According to TVLine, it’s going to go the Mr. and Mrs. Smith route by featuring characters Lance Hunter and Barbara “Bobbi” Morse, AKA Mockingbird as the headlining duo.

“Story elements yet to come in S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s second season will lay the groundwork for the prospective series, but there won’t be a ‘planted spinoff’ episode, per se.

The project is being penned by S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeffrey Bell (whose writing credits also include Angel and The X-Files) and co-exec producer Paul Zbyszewski (Hawaii Five-0, Lost).

Palicki and Blood both joined the mothership drama this season as the newest members of Coulson’s team.” – TVLine

The 2014-2015 TV season might not officially be over yet (for some shows), but ABC is finally ready to announce its line up returning shows. Among them is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.DCastle, Once Upon a Time, and – wait for it – Agent Carter. How excited are we? We’ll get to hang out with Peggy, Jarvis and Co. for a second season (even if it is limited) of fun times.

My one “big concern” for this line up is Castle. Both Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic had their contracts up for renewal going into the eighth season. Only Nathan has reportedly renewed while Stana’s still in negotiations. My two cents? Castle “cannot” return without his Kate.

Sadly, for those who were avid fans of Forever, it did not receive a season two order. Guess this means I now need to binge-watch the first (and only) season on iTunes.

CBS | Premieres

CBS has ordered the series Supergirl for a 2015 (?) premiere. Given my love of all things comic book, I suspect I will be thrilled to check out this fun series. Here’s what TVLine reports:

PREMIERE DATE | TBA

WHEN | TBA

WHO | Melissa Benoist (Glee), Mehcad Brooks (Desperate Housewives), Laura Benanti (Nashville), Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal), Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy), David Harewood (Selfie, Homeland) and guest stars Helen Slater (the film Supergirl), Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and Jeremy Jordan (Smash)

WHAT | Kara Zor-El escaped her home planet of Krypton amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has concealed the powers she shares with her (ahem) “famous cousin.” But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

CW | DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW

Anything that will give us more of the Arrow and The Flash world is alright by me! Read on for TVLine’s reports of this in-the-works show:

PREMIERE DATE | TBA

WHEN | TBA

WHO | Victor Garber (The Flash), Brandon Routh (Arrow), Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), Caity Lotz (Arrow), Ciarra Renee (Pippin), Franz Drameh (Edge of Tomorrow), Dominic Purcell (The Flash) and Wentworth Miller (The Flash)

WHAT | When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen a future he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they’ve ever known?

Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

Last, but certainly not least, there is news that Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is going to film a feature length movie set in England. What do you think of that!? I don’t mind saying I’m thrilled for this news!

That’s my random blog post of today. If you want to share any thoughts or talk about upcoming TV shows you’re curious about, leave some comments. If not, happy Friday, readers!

  1. I was sad Forever was not renewed, especially when I heard how low Ioann Gruffudd was feeling about the news. I thought it was a great series and apparently a lot of other people did too — it's even more irritating considering that if it didn't have the 10PM time slot on Tuesdays it might have stuck around.

That being said, I am SO excited Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter are coming back! More FitzSimmons and then of course I love Jarvis, Peggy, and Daniel. . . .

    1. I am sad about Forever as well, Hannah. I just bought the first two episodes, so I'll binge-watch it and be mad at its lack of renewal later. ;)

Yay for more Marvel to love. I'm thrilled about that. Fitz and Simmons are adorable (which reminds me I need to watch more of S1) and Peggy and Co. are not only cool, they know how to be that way in style. :)

Thanks for visiting and sharing some thoughts, Hannah. Always glad to chat with you. :)

  2. Well, I'm ecstatic about Agent Carter. I don't watch much American TV, honestly, but I *adore* that show, and I've really been wanting to watch Agents of SHIELD but haven't gotten much of a chance.

    1. I'm watching S1 of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hayden, so join in. :) I came on board really late with that one (unusual since I adore Marvel), but it's fun. Plus I heart Fitz and Simmons. Two of the very best Marvel have.

As am I. Cannot wait to see what other mischief Peggy and Co. get up too. Not to mention the fashion they sport while doing so. ;)

  3. Wait wait WAIT!! Miss Fisher's is going to be a movie set in England?! How amazing is that news?!?! Woohoo! I do love Phryne and company. (A great deal actually, as if you can't tell.) :D

    1. I share that enthusiasm, Kara. I'm super excited about Miss Fisher's new adventure. Bring it on… plus we get a third series. :)

  4. I've missed most of Agent Carter even though I really like that show. I need to see about watching the whole season now. I'm sure I'll have time this summer while the shows that we do record aren't new. I'm curious about Supergirl and hope that they don't ruin it. Love super heroes! :) We've watched Castle off and on and yes, you can't have that show without both of them.

    1. I've not watched Agent Carter yet either, Tressa (with exception to the pilot), but I LOVED it, and plan on finishing it soon. (All depends on if I can wait for a DVD set or buy it on iTunes. :D) Ditto on Supergirl. I don't know anything about the legend, but superhero tales can easily be ruined (or go too "sappy" if writers/producers aren't careful).

Right? I don't think the show will last if Stana doesn't renew. Here's hoping this is just a publicity stunt to make us worried. ;)

  5. Love this fun post, Rissi! My sister and I were just talking about how excited we were that Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, and OUAT were renewed. Also, that SHIELD spinoff looks interesting- I like Bobbi and Hunter a lot so seeing more of those two will be fun. And a new DC Comics show?! So. Cool. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you – as always, for commenting and sharing your excited thoughts, Bekah. :)

Sadly, I read that the Marvel spin-off isn't happening (a day or so after posting this). But if the characters stick around on SHIELD, that works. :)

I'm thrilled there is a new DC Comics show in the works, and can only hope it'll take the same path as The Flash or Arrow. CW knows what they're doing (which means this spin-off should follow suit) and perhaps CBS (with Supergirl) will take lessons from them. :D

  6. Very, very happy about more Agent Carter! That was a great show! And I'm actually happy that the SHIELD spinoff isn't happening after all. Bobbi and Hunter just work too well with the show to justify leaving it. They need to stay!

    1. As am I, Sarah. I wouldn't have minded if it hadn't gone beyond its limited run (because sometimes the fun of something is that it has a short, but brilliant few installments), but any excuse to see more of Peggy is a good more. Good to know. I'm excited to meet Bobbi and Hunter, and like you, suspect I'll be just as happy with them staying the SHIELD universe. :)

Thanks a bunch for visiting and the comment. Always great to talk with you, no matter the blog post. :)

  7. I am one of the ones that are sad that Forever was not renewed. :( I loved that show and was just holding my breath to see if he was finally going to tell the detective about his "condition"…lol.

Very happy about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter! Love those shows.

Castle won't be Castle if Beckett's not there! I wondered when she started talking about politics if they were ending the show but I didn't think about her being written out! It wouldn't be the same. I hope Stana signs!

    1. So am I, Rachel… and I've not even started Forever (aside from the pilot) yet. I loved its setup and suspect I'll be sad by the time I end binge-watching it. There are petitions by fans to get Hulu or Netflix or another network to pick it up. It has happened before, so maybe…!

Ditto. More TV Marvel awesomeness is always a welcome distraction.

Stana has signed (*three cheers*). I read about the contract renewal a few days after the finale. We can all be happy now. Because like you say, Castle wouldn't ever be the same without Beckett. The dynamic wouldn't work. :)
