‘THE GIFTING,’ BY KATIE GANSHERT REVIEW ON SILVER PETTICOAT

by

Today, I get to share one of my latest (and a rarity, too since I don’t read many Indie books… why I don’t know) Indie finds with a little review. This time, the review appears on Silver Petticoat, but down below you’ll find a snippet of said review along with a link to read the review in full should you like. What is the book you may ask, it’s K.E. Ganshert’s (also known as Katie Ganshert), The Gifting. This is Katie’s YA debut and let me tell ya, it’s amazing. I’m sad I didn’t really get into the “science” of the book in my review, but trust me, it’s an intriguing, worthwhile concept. Katie has worked in some relevant, not to mention, kind of terrifying concepts. It’s categorized as a dystopian and certainly has some of those markers, but is also a paranormal read.

Because I mistakenly ordered not one but two paperback copies (and yes, it’s a paperback) – beginning to wonder if I can count, I have one on my shelf for a reader. Here’s the review.

The Gifting – A Perceptive, Indie Dystopian Novel

‘THE GIFTING,’ BY KATIE GANSHERT REVIEW ON SILVER PETTICOAT. Sharing a snippet of my review from Silver Petticoat. Text © Rissi JC

The word dystopian is likely to conjure memories of one particular story, The Hunger Games. In addition to the one that reignited the genre, there are multiple other novels in young adult literature that are well-known and respected, ones that also fall into the dystopian realms. These novels have established big-screen film adaptations and inspired an entire sub-culture. But whether you’re becoming an expert archer through one Katniss Everdeen’s eyes or finding your voice as Divergent, these are all reasons why it’s tough to craft something unique within the larger genre. Chances are, somewhere we’ve seen, heard or experienced “all” of the twists. Reading debut YA author, K. E. Ganshert’s (she publishes inspirational novels under her full name, Katie Ganshert) dystopian novel was something I was thrilled to experience. What I didn’t realize was how very unique her world was going to be. Read the review in Full →

The Gifting Synopsis: “If science is right, then I am crazy. And crazy is dangerous.”

Tess Eckhart has always felt things nobody else can feel. Then the Ouija board incident happens at a high school party. Her complete freakout sends her family across the country—next to a nationally-renowned facility for the mentally ill. Worried that Tess suffers from the same illness that tormented her grandmother, her parents insist she see a psychiatrist.

But Tess is more concerned about fitting in at her new school, and hiding the fact that she’s seeing a therapist at the Edward Brooks Facility. She’s used to whispers and stares, but when it comes to Luka Williams, a reluctantly popular boy in her class, she’s unused to a stare that intense. Then the headaches start, and the seemingly prophetic dreams that haunt her at night. As Tess tries to hide them, she becomes increasingly convinced that Luka knows something—that he might somehow be responsible.

But what if she’s wrong? What if Luka Williams is the only thing separating her from a madness too terrifying to fathom? – from Goodreads, Add on Goodreads

  1. I was just reading your review on TSP and decided to stop by your blog–such a good article by the way, Rissi. It made me want to read it, like, now. ;) Lol, and ordering two copies on accident sounds just like something I'd do. Anyways, thanks for the giveaway! So fun! :)

    1. Thanks, Bekah. Appreciate your support and kind words. Always more fun to write about something we liked. :) I hope you wind up enjoying this one – and yes! Oh, my gosh. I'm beginning to worry about myself… I've bought a book at B&N that I already owned too. Ugh. Makes me wonder… ;)

  2. I am so crazy excited that you are giving away this book, Rissi! I REALLY would love to read it in paperback! It sounds so intriguing and a lot different then my average read. Just a little bit ago I finished my friend's novel, "Atlas Died." Great read! Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. My pleasure, Laura. I sure hope you like this one and enjoy Katie's unique world – love that she went ahead and published this series as an Indie series… plus, book three releases this week, so we can now binge-read them all. :D

    1. I'll check into it, Diane. Either way, I'll note that should your tweet be randomly chosen. I bet she would enjoy this series! It's a quieter perspective, but very good. :)

    1. Ditto. I agree, Tressa. Seeing more YA in our inspirational fiction scene would be amazing… and I hope you like Katie's debut when you have a chance to read it. :)

  3. I would love to win this one, since it is on my TBR list.;) It looks amazing!
I can't say that I read a lot of Indie fiction, though I do enjoy the books my friend, April Erwin, writes. :)

    1. April is an unfamiliar Indie name, so I'll have to look her novels up. Thanks, Amanda. And best of luck; Katie has a winner on her hands. :)

  4. I am a mom of two young teens who loves to read YA along with all my favorite adult fare. I was excited when I saw that Katie Ganshert was releasing some young adult books. She's amazing and now she's writing in two of my favorite genre's.

    1. She is amazing! I'm excited to see if this debut leads to future books (aside from this trilogy), because she's a talented author. :)

  5. I am brand new to your blog and I love it ! I have read some of Ms. Ganshert's other books and they are teriffic. How wonderful that she is now writing in YA, one of my favorite genres to read !

    1. YA is one of my favorite genres too, Deanne! It's kind of my more "lighthearted" fare since technically, I'm past the target age. ;)

Thanks for your kind words! Glad to have you visit. Do so anytime.
