The Intern: Big Screen Favorite is the Boss in Workplace Comedy

by
On Saturday, I spent a gorgeous day shopping (my mother and I went fall clothes shopping, and fed our bead-crazy obsession for jewelry making). Then later on, we went to see Nancy Meyers latest, The Intern.the intern

My favorite Nancy Meyers film has long been The Holiday, but having now seen this, I do believe its title might be threatened. Why? Because The Intern is the kind of comedy (unexpected scenes as well, which is why they dazzle) that we often crave but don’t often see. This to say nothing of the heart-tugging moments. It stars Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro.

The cast is brilliant, the writing great, but the one who steals scenes is a pint-sized version of Anne Hathaway’s character. But enough chit-chat. I had the chance to review this one on Silver Petticoat, a review that is now live. It you’d like to read more about the movie or specific thoughts I walk away with, you can read it now (links below).

The Intern: Workplace Comedy with Class and Charm

It has been a while since I saw Anne Hathaway in anything, but when I saw the trailer for this, the latest effort from director and writer Nancy Meyers, I instantly knew seeing The Intern was a must. Its promotional material promised a kind of return to one of my favorite roles for Anne, only this time the situation was reversed (she plays the boss hiring interns). With a talented cast (among them there is an alarming amount of nominations and prestigious wins), a popular screenwriter and the bubblegum “feel-good” quality of good comedy, this one had the promise to be a terrific comedy. Content: the film is PG13 for some profanity [one use of the F-word]; and sexual humor.

    1. Thank you for reading, Katie. I hope if/when you see this one you wind up enjoying it; Nancy Meyers has a great sense of humor or she must as her scripts are amazing! :)

  1. Nice review, Rissi! I love The Holiday too, so I guess I'll probably like this one! It looks like a winner. I really appreciate it when movies can be more adultish without creeping into R territory too! :)

    1. Thanks for reading, Sarah. I hope you do enjoy this one. There is a different "tone" to the film (it's not as romantic, for obvious reasons), but it's really cute. And I didn't feel like this one was on the edge of an R-rating (and I agree; those are unpleasant). If you were okay with The Holiday, you should be this one too. :)

    1. If you liked this one, I think you'd really enjoy The Holiday, Kaylee. Nancy has such a unique way of creating heart-tugging stories and moments! Let me know if/when you see it – and I'm super glad you liked The Intern. It's a really good feel-good flick. Glad you visited. :)
