In addition to being
a self-diagnosed book nerd, I’m also a TV addict. This can be something of a
problem when deciding how to spend the weekend. Do I read or binge-watch a
favorite TV show? This is a constant “dilemma” for this fangirl. Most of the
time the latter wins out, only it comes about after I’ve put in a block of writing. This is why I’ve chosen
television as my story medium for today’s Top Ten Tuesday meme.
Ten Reasons I Love _____
(could be a
certain book, character, author, your indie bookstore, a fandom, a tv show,
reading, a hobby, a genre. Honestly anything you want to gush about.)
I love everything good there is to love about TV shows. Its
ups and downs, the drama (as long as it’s not
Shondaland extreme), the comedy and emotion, the ships and romance; and of
course, the intensity with which the writer’s challenge not just their
characters, but us. Sure, TV shows exasperate me to no end (especially where
the ships are concerned), but I still love it just the same. Best of all, there
are a lot of FEELS and fangirl flails which are only really appropriate in TV
land. Why is this? Because the rest of the time, we are busy adulting, so we
take every chance we get to be passionate about said fandoms.
With all that said, I’ve chosen to list 7 of the shows I’m
currently binge-watching. Don’t mistake, this is by no way a comprehensive
list as I watch far too many
television shows, however what this is a collection of are the shows I’m watching (primarily judging by my iTunes account) now while
others like NCIS or Castle I buy on DVD. Let’s get started.
1. Agent Carter (ABC)
Sadly, this one was recently cancelled, but I’m still back a
bit since I’ve yet to finish season two (its swan song). So far, it’s the usual blend of charm,
sophistication and adventure. Peggy Carter rules. What more can one say?
2. Blindspot (NBC)
Still working my way through the puzzling complexities of
this 2015 debut. Still loving every minute.
3. Bunheads (ABC Family)
Back when Freeform was still ABC Family, the creators of Gilmore Girls pitched the little series
called Bunheads. Though widely
thought to be too similar to GG (which I totally understand), it’s
delightful. I’m two episodes away from finishing this charming small-town
series.
4. Chuck (NBC)
This show is long since cancelled, but earlier this year, I finally took the plunge and bought an
episode on iTunes. That one episode turned into 3 and then 6, and well, you
understand the rest. I’m now in the early episodes of season two, and after
weeks of not watching any episodes (my laptop had attitude problems, and decided to quit) I’m back in super nerd spy Chuck Bartowski’s
world. I love it.
5. Houdini &
Doyle (Fox)
Loving this hilarious period drama series (miniseries?) Fox
recently premiered. It’s as classy as it is comedic, plus I like the characters
quite a lot even if the casting isn’t traditional.
6. Intelligence (CBS)
This show has been cancelled, but I’m really enjoying
working through the first season. The chemistry between the leads is quite good, too.
7. Stitchers
(Freeform)
This sci-fi mind-bending story has been fun because of the
leading heroine, Kristen, is a unique complex young woman who’s opinions never cease
to make us laugh. She’s blunt and isn’t afraid to say what she thinks. It makes for great scripting, and we love her in spite of the insults.
That’s a wrap on June’s first Top Ten Tuesday meme. What are
some of the TV shows currently pulling you away from reading? I love to know
about them. What topic did you pick
today? Leave your Top Ten Tuesday links if you like. I’d be glad to visit.
Happy Tuesday, and thank
you for visiting Finding Wonderland.
I haven't actually watched any of these shows (yet)! :o
ReplyDeleteStitchers looks really awesome though, so I might watch that one soon, haha :)
I understand the "dilemma" haha whenever I'm really into a show, I can't decide whether to read or watch!
Uh-oh! You'll have LOTS to catch up on then, Ayla. :)
DeleteStichers is fun. I enjoy it now and again, and don't mind taking my time with it. :)
Right!? There's always that dilemma. To read or not? To binge-watch TV or not?
I have to admit that I haven't watched any of these shows. Bunheads sounds like my sort of thing though! :-)
ReplyDeleteBunheads = DARLING, Chrissi! :)
DeleteThough I've heard of most of these series, I've only watched Intelligence when it aired here. I couldn't really get into that one. But Stitches sounds really interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteSome shows just don't suit, and that's okay. I really like how the leads play off each other in Intelligence and Stichers is lots of fun. :) Thanks so much for visiting, Anne.
DeleteI'm actually not much of a TV show watcher, much to my husband's dismay...though he'll start watching something and inevitably I'll want to join him (happened with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Farscape, and Silicon Valley to name a few). We're currently rewatching Veronica Mars (b/c I never did see the movie when it came out) and the Office (US version -- Jim/Pam love). And the boy's started watching the latest season of Archer, so I'll likely half watch that. (And we watch The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver which I tend to half-watch).
ReplyDeleteOur TTT this week.
I LOVE Veronica Mars TV show, Lenore. The characters are crazy good, and the movie is a wonderful "epilogue" of a sort that's a kind of love letter to fans. Hope you are enjoying it - along with The Office. That's one I never started. Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland, Lenore. :)
DeleteI liked Peggy Carter and was pretty disappointed to see it canceled. With all the Marvel stuff coming to Netflix it would be nice if it gets resurrected there, but probably won't happen. I thought they did a good job with the show however.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Greg. Agent Carter is a classy show. We fans can hope for a Netflix renewal although I agree especially given Atwell's recent ABC (Fall 2016) show pickup. Thanks so much for visiting today! :)
DeleteI haven't heard of many of these - probably because they are not shown in South Africa yet. They sound awesome. My TTT
ReplyDeleteCool. Perhaps when they DO make it there, you'll have some potential shows to try, Sue. :) Thanks so much for visiting.
DeleteI love Agent Carter and I'm gutted it's been cancelled, I still hold out a little hope that'll be picked up by Netflix or something. I've been meaning to give Blindspot a go.
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten Tuesday all about my favourite character
Here's to hoping, Elena! Blindspot is, in my opinion, crazy addicting. :)
DeleteThanks so much for visiting.
I've been meaning to try Bunheads bc I LOVE ABCFamily shows (I wish they would stop trying to make FreeForm happen, I HATE it). I didn't realize it was a GGs creators show, but that makes me even more excited!!!
ReplyDeleteBunheads is darling, Michelle! I'm almost done with it although I suppose it will end on a cliffhanger. I'm excited because some of the actors in Bunheads are going to guest in the GG revival on Netflix. Sounds so fun! :) Hope you enjoy if you decide to watch it - and as always, thank you for visiting.
DeleteFirst off, I love that you included Intelligence; it's a show that I think was and is severely underrated, which is a shame because it's pretty great in my opinion. As for the rest of your shows, I'm a HUGE Chuck fan as well, and thanks for the heads-up about Bunheads; I can't wait to start watching it! Also, while I greatly enjoy Kristen in Stitchers, my favourite part of the show is absolutely Cameron, and his growing relationship with her.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to my own most recent must-watch shows, I've been streaming Signed Sealed Delivered episodes pretty frequently lately, started the first season of Murdoch Mysteries (thanks for the tip on that one as well by the way; I'm loving it!), and the third season of The Musketeers.
God Bless
Eleanor Rose
Thanks, Eleanor! I'm really liking Intelligence just now and am hoping to enjoy the final episodes too. I'm sad it didn't receive more episodes, but I did like Josh in USA Network's Colony and Meagan is set to star in Hallmark's new summer show, which will be fun. :) Enjoy Bunheads and three cheers for Chuck (isn't it hilarious!?). Oh, I heart Cameron too! He's a fabulous character.
DeleteSSD is so cute. I always enjoy that one and am looking forward to catching up with the movies when they release on DVD this summer. 'Murdoch' is still an addiction and of course, The Musketeers is fabulous. So much fun! :)
Glad, as always, to see your comment, Eleanor. :)
I've not seen Agent Carter yet, but it looks really good. And I watched Intelligence. I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteIf you like comic book adaptations, you'd enjoy Agent Carter, Dawn. It's lots of fun. :) Glad you visited!
DeleteI've wanted to give Bunheads a try, since I'm a Gilmore Girls freak. Great list, Rissi!
ReplyDeleteI think you'd enjoy it then, Miranda. Lots of GG throwbacks and biting humor. :) Let me know what you think if ever you see it. :) Glad you visited, as always.
DeleteI'm still bitter that Bunheads was not renewed because it was a gem. I still say a little prayer sometimes that Freeform or netflix will realize the travesty of not having that show on the air. Great list!
ReplyDeleteRight?! I have a feeling I'll be disappointed by the end of Bunheads too, Bri (because it has NO MORE episodes). Thanks so much for visiting. :)
DeleteThis is a great list you have here! I've heard really good things about Bunheads, but I have yet to watch it myself :(
ReplyDeleteLipstick and Mocha
Thanks, Carla! Hope you enjoy Bunheads if you give it a chance. It's really cute. :) Glad you visited!
DeleteLOVE Agent Carter! I could see it being cancelled to be honest, much as I adored it. Still sad though--hoping/praying Netflix picks it up. I need to watch Chuck--heard its phenomenal. :) Love your list!
ReplyDeleteNetflix picking up Agent Carter would be fabulous! (I read today CMT is in the works to pick up Nashville, so stranger things have happened.) However given that Atwell is set to star in a new ABC show, I have doubts. So unfortunate.
DeleteChuck is WAY more fun than it should be, Meghan. Thanks a ton, as always, for visiting. Hope you're doing well! :)
I really want to see Bunheads! It looks like a really good show. Thank you for stopping by. :)
ReplyDeleteIt IS indeed good, Jess. Such a cute little show that probably ended well before it should. My pleasure! THANK YOU for the return visit. :)
DeleteOmgggg! I got so excited when I saw your take on this week's TTT! LOVE it!! I've seen almost all of these, with the exception of Bunheads. I started Houdini and Doyle but got distracted and never finished the first episode, but I'll go back to it soon. High five to the Chuck, Agent Carter, Blindspot, and Stitchers mentions. LOVE all of those so much!! Still disappointed about the cancellation of Intelligence. :(
ReplyDeleteI always have fun discussing my TV binge-watches, Bekah - and happily for me, those posts always do really well here, so perhaps this means I don't need to give them up. :)
DeleteBunheads = DARLING, and of course, I'm already a fangirl for Houdini & Doyle. High five back about Chuck, Agent Carter, Blindspot and Stitchers. All so different, but so good. As for Intelligence, I suspect I'll be of the same mind once I get to the end. So far, it's SO good. :)
Agent Carter and Chuck are some of my favorites! I wish they were still on....
ReplyDeleteI heard about Houdini and Doyle just a week or two ago - I'd definitely like to try it out.
Check out my TTT.
Me too, Lauren. Both are great TV addictions. *sigh* They always cancel the good ones, right!?
DeleteThanks so much for visiting - and enjoy Houdini & Doyle if you try it. :)
i definitely need to check out some of these shows!! I haven't even heard of Blindspot or Houdini & Doyle (probably because I'm buried in books lol) - My TTT
ReplyDeleteThat's a totally understandable reason, Carrie! :)
DeleteAh yes, the age old question - reading or binge watching, hehe. Definitely a question I ask about a lot of stuff... with tv generally winning too often. I really need to finish the last season of Agent Carter! I should probably check out Blindspot sometime as well! :D
ReplyDeleteTV wins ALL THE TIME for me. Mainly because I ask the question of myself late at night which is usually when I binge-watch TV, and my main reading time is in the morning. :) Agent Carter is so good and of course I'm a crazy fangirl for Blindspot. :) Thanks so much for visiting, Faith.
DeleteI really liked Intelligence! And not solely because it starred Josh Holloway. I was really bummed when it got cancelled, and I wish they'd release it to DVD already.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Rachel! I'd LOVE to see a DVD set. Instead I'm buying it an episode at a time on iTunes (a couple here and there). *sigh* We can hope! Glad you enjoyed Intelligence too. :)
DeleteI watched it during it's initial run, and I've been tempted to buy it from Amazon Video, but haven't yet. I keep hoping for DVDs.
DeleteMe too! I'd probably buy it on DVD if it'd be an MOD release. As it is right now, I'm taking my time watching it through iTunes, and it's been fun. :)
