Top Ten Tuesday | In Which I Give In To My Inner TV Addict

Every year one of my favorite times of the year is the new fall TV season. Does this make me one of the not-so-cool kids? Perhaps, but what can I say? I claim my geeky fangirl all too frequently.

Broke and Bookish September 6th

In honor of Fall Tv, do a tv-themed topic! Top ten favorite tv shows of all time, ten new shows coming out this Fall that are on my radar, tv shows I wish never got cancelled, tv shows I would recommend to book characters, books I wish would be tv shows, ten favorite shows from the late 90's or early 2000's, ten tv shows for every fantasy lover, etc.

So, I chose to focus on the new TV shows for the purpose of today’s list and also because I’m curious what has you all excited this 2016 fall season. There is a wide array of new shows popping up but what I’m most surprised at is how many networks (mostly my summer shows which air on TNT or USA Network) are failing to produce great TV. I’m seeing all of my favorites on these networks be cancelled and be replaced by insane shows. (Where has all the HAPPY - Royal Pains, vintage Burn Notice, Leverage - gone!? ) Or that’s my impression and/or opinion.

Last year, my big "find" was NBC's amazing Blindspot. What will take that top spot this year?
Some of the shows I’m listing below have me excited only they don’t premiere until midseason, but until then, I’ve tried my best to compile a “complete” list (one that I do feel is well rounded) of those I’m most interested in.

 1. Bull (CBS)  | Stars Michael Weatherly (NCIS)

When Michael leaves his long-standing gig as Tony Dinozzo on one of my most beloved shows, I’ll follow him to his new show which sounds… interesting. We’ll see if it’s a good fit and move.

2. Conviction (ABC) | Stars Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter)

Agent Carter may have knocked out her final bad guy on our telly’s, but she stays with the same network for this upcoming drama. The story follows a former first daughter who is a party girl, but also a brilliant lawyer. Her chance to redeem herself comes when she's recruited to investigate wrongful conviction cases. Sounds intriguing right? (Plus, how strange will it be to hear Atwell with an American accent every week!?)

3. Designated Survivor (ABC) | Stars Keifer Sutherland (24), Maggie Q

After seeing him as the kick-butt-hold-nothing-back Jack Bauer, seeing Sutherland in this kind of role (as a cabinet member who becomes U.S. President) will be a switch.

4. Frequency (Freeform) | Stars Peyton List (The Tomorrow People)

I’ve never seen the film on which this is based, but as film-to-TV is a trend nowadays (Fox picked up Lethal Weapon; CBS Training Day – something tells me not ALL of these will last), it might be interesting to check out. The story sounds intriguing too, and I’m always up for furthering my introduction of sci-fi.

5. The Good Place (NBC) | Stars Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Frozen)

I don’t normally go for this type of comedy, but Kristen Bell is hilarious in everything I’ve seen her in. Despite a premise I’m not 100% thrilled with (about a woman who dies and is sent to “the good place,” somewhere between Heaven and Hell), it does look amusing. And Kristen Bell stars. Did I mention that?

6. MacGyver (CBS) | Stars Lucas Till (X-Men)

Don’t laugh. I added this one because I’ve seen some of the old version and thought, why not? I mean despite its impression of having too much silliness, it could be entertaining.

7. Notorious (ABC) | Stars Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs)

Since we can’t see the talents of Perabo  as eager agent Annie Walker on Covert Affairs, watching her new show might be the next best thing.

8. Pitch (Fox) | Stars Kylie Bundury (Disney's Prom)
This one sounds interesting. I'm not much of a sports buff unless it's Olympics related however this one did pique my interest.

9. Timeless | Stars Abigail Spencer (Suits), Matt Lanter (Star-Crossed)

Who doesn't love time travel concepts? Only trouble is, there might be a few too many out there. But then that doesn't seem to hamper crime dramas, so...
10. Van Helsing (SyFy) | Stars Kelly Overton

Okay, yes adding this one might be stretching my normal patterns (by a lot). That said, I added it because I've liked so much from this network and well, I'm willing to watch the pilot and see where that leads.
Another new week, another wrap on Top Ten Tuesday.

Grab some popcorn, and tell me, friends and readers, which of these are you anticipating? I’d love to talk all things TV shows with you. Comment down below and let me know why you will or won’t be tuning in, or let me know the shows not on this list that you’re watching. I’d love to chat all the bookish (or as is the case today, TV) goodness with you. Leave your Top Ten Tuesday links below. I’d be most happy to visit your book emporiums.
Thank you for visiting Finding Wonderland.

  1. I'm thinking Designated Survivor and Conviction (love Hayley atwell) are looking good, and Timeless because time travel.

Van Helsing I'm not sure about...

    1. I like the sound of them you spotlighted, Greg. I'm all for anything Keifer and Hayley star in.

I agree. Van Helsing, I'm iffy about as well, but usually I like what I see from ScFy, so I'm open to the possibility of it being... fun? Interesting? Fascinating?

  2. I'm totally rubbish at watching TV, so I'm not very aware of the shows you've mentioned. I do hope you love them though.

    1. Thanks, Chrissi. I do too though I know most won't last beyond a few episodes which is a good and bad thing. Good because I don't need more shows to addict myself too. Bad because they end usually just when things are getting good. ;)

  3. I am so glad your big find last year is Blindspot! I am obsessed with that show!

    1. ME TOO, Nicole although I'll confess to being behind on it. Why I don't know. Best catch up for the S2 premiere! :)

  4. I feel so behind on what's coming up for Fall 2016! The Good Place sounds great, mostly due to Kristen Bell who I share your thoughts about- she is terrific in everything. And the Hayley Atwell show sounds so good as well! :)

    1. YES! Kristen is fabulous in anything I've seen her in. The trailers do look funny, so I'll give it a shot. Also, I'm super excited about Hayley's new show. It looks intense and fantastic (plus I'm sure Hayley's acting will be great, as usual). Hope you enjoy if you try any.

      Thanks for visiting, Michelle. :)

  5. Although it sounds ridiculous, I'm willing to give Van Helsing a watch, because I love all things vampires and hey, female leads are always a plus.

(Plus I did give NBC's Dracula show a fair shake, so...)

    1. Me too, Catherine. And I love your description of Van Helsing: it even LOOKS ridiculous. But yeah, it might be fun, right!? :)

      Thanks for visiting.

  6. I'll probably give Van Helsing a go because it looks like the type of genre I usually quite like. Both The Good Place and the new MacGyver sound like they might be fun, which is getting harder to find in all the doom and drama so I'll probably give them a chance too.
    Here's my TTT this week.

    1. Agreed, Ellis. It IS getting harder to find light-hearted shows. I'm going to miss so many of the shows networks like USA used to air. That said, I'll hope for good things with the two you mention (The Good Place, MacGyver) and hope shows like Hawaii Five-O or Murdoch Mysteries keep going (since they are "lighter" in general).

Thanks so much for visiting! Looking forward to visiting your Top 10 Tuesday post. :)

  7. Holy crap I'm glad you came up with this list - there's a lot of shows in here I had no idea were happening but star actors I will watch in anything! Namely Kristen Bell haha. But I love Michael Weatherly and Piper Perabo too. I was pretty sad about the direction Covert Affairs went in because for the first couple seasons it was my favourite show on tv, but alas that seems to happen to all of my favourite American tv shows (Sleepy Holloe WHICH I CAN NOT EVEN SPEAK IF CALMLY NOW, OUaT for example)

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth. I'm glad it was informative and hopefully helpful. I'm actually planning on putting another together next week that will include these and also some I didn't list as a more "complete" preview of a sort of fall's 2016 TV.

I had some disappointments about Covert Affairs as well, but not enough to keep me from finishing it. Sorry it disappointed you; when it's your favorite, that's never fun.

...don't even get me started on OUAT. Ugh. I have series issues with that one (and I'm not even current with it anymore). ;)

Thanks so much for visiting, Elizabeth.

  8. I'm looking forward to The Good Place too. :) I love Bell and it's a fresh, cool concept! :)

    1. Hope it's as funny as the trailers make it seem, Jessica. :)

  9. It will be weird to see Hayley Atwell speak with an American accent! :)
    Check out my TTT.

    1. Right!? That's what I say too, Lauren. :)

  10. Ooh, The Good Place looks good! Really, I'm interested in it solely because of Kristen Bell. :D

    1. Nothing wrong with that, Kaitlin. That's my interest too. :)

  11. oh I'm TOTALLY interested in Conviction now!! Because Hayley Atwell is aaaamazing and I so loved Agent Carter (so so mad it was cancelled grr) But she's using an American accent?! Omg that should be interesting!😂

    1. Right!? I'm curious to see how that goes, Cait. Seeing an actress who is British sport an American accent!? The horror! Why would anyone want to lose that. :)

  12. I don't watch a lot of TV so I am unfamiliar with a lot of these shows, but I did think Designated Survivor looks good. I may have to start watching a little bit again :)

    1. Designated Survivor does indeed look good, Sarah. If you do watch it, I hope you enjoy. :)
