A Few of My Favorite Christmas Movies 2016

by

Season’s Greetings, fellow book nerds and Hallmark-movie-bingers. Today I thought I’d gather up a few of my favorite Christmas movies in one neat little post and share them. Or at least I thought I’d make an attempt at a neat and tidy post.

If you’ve been a reader for any length of time, you totally know one of my weaknesses is Hallmark flicks. This past year, in particular, they’ve “grown up” and produced some really heartwarming and entertaining originals. I’ve discovered more favorites than ever. It’s safe to say, I watch more Hallmark movies in the space of a month than some people watch in an entire year. But I proudly own the distinction because, let’s face it, I’m an addict. So let’s have a look.

Favorites from the 2016 Countdown to Christmas Originals

A Few of My Favorite Christmas Movies 2016 #christmasarchives Click To Tweet
1. Christmas in Homestead

This was the first new Christmas flick I saw to kick the season off, and as I’ve so often been, I was super impressed. Of course, part of this might have had something to do with Michael Rady (Emily Owens, M.D.) playing in the leading man role. Premiered on Hallmark Channel.

2. Christmas List

Super cute, this one stars Hallmark favorite, Alicia Witt. The most memorable thing about this one was the script spinning unique ways for its leading lady to accomplish her “grown up” Christmas list. Premiered on Hallmark Channel.

3. A December Bride

Based on the Denise Hunter novella (of the same name), this one is cuteness overload. It co-stars Daniel Lissing of When Calls the Heart fame. The fact that Lissing plays the male lead, Seth to perfection hurts nothing. Premiered on Hallmark Channel.

4. Finding Father Christmas

With another When Calls the Heart actress (leading lady, Erin Krakow) at the top of the cast list, this is another winning drama. Premiered on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.

5. Hearts of Christmas

Another charmer, this script keeps the witty banter going and the actors deliver it perfectly. It follows an NICU nurse who butts heads with her new boss, a numbers guy who’s looking to make staffing cuts. Premiered on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.

6. My Christmas Love

This was yet another one that I misjudged thanks to “first impressions.” Imagine my surprise when I got done with this one and realized it had me at “hello,” and is now one of my favorites. Premiered on Hallmark Channel.

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS MOVIES 2016: From the Box Office, Classics and Hallmark Channel (aka the Movies I Watch Every Year)

1. The Holiday

Not even close to being of the same “wholesome” quality as Hallmark, this is, without question, one of my favorite holiday flicks.  Much to my surprise I realize I’ve not watched this one in a while.

2. Christmas in Connecticut

One of two classics I enjoy watching each year.

3. White Christmas

Though I finally saw Holiday Inn last year, I think this is, overall, my favorite of the two. I mean, really who doesn’t love the romance between Gene Kelly and Rosemary Clooney, and the hilarious scheming of Danny Kayne and Vera-Ellen?

4. 12 Men of Christmas

A Lifetime (TV) movie, this one stars Kristin Chenoweth and is another cute flick. Loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (in a modern, more “adult” way), this is one I cannot resist revisiting year after year.

5. Christmas with Holly

Based on the novel, Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor, this is another one I 100% adore. Writing this reminds me: I’ve yet to watch it this year!

6. The Nine Lives of Christmas

Cute seems inadequate for this one. It’s one of Hallmark’s cutest ever. Plus, you know, Brandon Routh stars, so there is that.

7. A Princess For Christmas

If you’re an Outlander fan, you simply must see this one. Sam Heughan co-stars way before he took up the mantle of Jamie Fraser, and what fun it is to see him in this unknown role. Plus, you know, this is a contemporary fairy tale, which I’m all about.

8. A Very Merry Mix-Up

Another film starring Alicia Witt, this one is about a woman who runs into travel complications that results in a serendipitous meeting of a man she believes to be her boyfriend’s brother.

There are so many more I enjoy (and in fact they’re running through my mind now), but one has to quit somewhere. Visit our ‘Christmas page‘ to discover more favorites. What Christmas movies do you watch each year? Have you seen any of Hallmark’s 2016 originals!? Comment down below with your thoughts.

Thank you for visiting! Come back soon.

  1. Mmmm, The Holiday is a recent favorite for me. And I've loved White Christmas since I was like seven years old — definitely my favorite. The original We're No Angels and the Patrick Stewart version of A Christmas Carol are also ones I can't do without. And I'll watch it any time of the year, but I especially love to watch While You Were Sleeping at Christmastime.

I don't have cable, so I don't get to watch Hallmark movies much, but I know my mom keeps her TV show on Hallmark pretty much all December when she's grading papers and so on in the evenings :-)

    1. The Holiday has its issues, but I 100% adore it. I love the scene when Diaz's character goes to the boyfriend's house, and Kate's relationship with the two men in her life are respectively wonderful.

I try to watch White Christmas every year, but don't always get to it. Hoping I will this year though. :) I've seen one or two versions of A Christmas Carol though am not sure which ones.

I always forget While You Were Sleeping is set at Christmas, so I never watch it. But it's been years since I saw it, so I should make an effort to re-watch it these next two weeks. :)

Hallmark films are SO fun. I know some are cliche, but they've really "grown up" this year. They've been fabulous.

Thanks for sharing some of your favorites!

    2. YES! The scene where Diaz goes to Law's house is what bumped that movie from "this is fun" to "this film lives in my heart forever" the first time I watched it. Still my favorite moment. Though overall it's Winslet's adopting of her elderly neighbor (the always wonderful Eli Wallach) that I like best about the film.

    3. Re: The Holiday: I really like how you put that. That scene alone makes every "morally improper" thing worth it. Such a heartwarming moment. Kate's relationship with Wallach's character is wonderful. Gives the film that classic flick feel it otherwise would have lacked. Plus, his term "meet cute" is now one of my most favorites ever!

    4. It really does. The little bit where he literally spells it out for her (trying not to spoil anyone who hasn't seen it!) is just — perfect. I actually watched 3/4 of it tonight with my best friend, and we were both sniffly and tearing up at that part. And we've each seen it several times.

And yes, I love the phrase "meet cute" now!

    5. Aw, I hear you. This one gets me EVERY TIME! You know, talking with you about it makes me want to REALLY watch this one this week. Since it goes through New Year's, I think it's still totally acceptable to watch. :)

    1. Hi, Nicole. Hope you enjoy some of these if you have a chance to see them. I thought, of those I've seen, their 2016 line up was fabulous. They're really "grown" since I began watching and needless to say, I'm impressed. Thanks so much for stopping by. :)

  2. I feel like I'm missing out on some great movies, because I haven't seem any of those! I have some select favourites, and don't watch many others, but I obviously need to brach out…

    1. I do hope you enjoy some of these if you see them, Victoria. They're all so much fun albeit for very different reasons (because each are a different story). Thanks so much for visiting. :)

  3. Ah, those hallmark movies just get me every single year! :) So many good ones this time around. I don't know if I can narrow them down! But A December Bride and Hearts of Christmas are definitely on my list. :)

Yes to The Holiday! And Nine Lives, as well as Princess for Christmas. Those are must watches every year!!! Oh, and 12 Men, I haven't watched that one in an age. But it never fails to make me grin. (The Austen references definitely help! ;)

I love Christmas movies! Thinking I might borrow your idea and create my own list…

    1. RIGHT!? How do we narrow them down, Kara!? Too many to smile, laugh, swoon – and sometimes, cry over. :)

The fact that '12 Men' has so many Austen references makes me happy. I love how they modernized the story without being a direct Pride and Prejudice re-make. Just re-watched that one and 'Princess,' but still need to enjoy 'Nine Lives' as well as The Holiday!

YAY! I'm so glad you did! I saw your post in my reader, so I'm definitely going to be by to read it. :)

    1. Thank you, Bekah. It was such fun to put together even though I did it on a whim. One of these year's I should put one together with careful thought – but hey, we love our Hallmark love, right!? :)

    1. I agree! Isn't it adorable, Heather!? One I'd really like to watch again before we put too much distance between now and Christmas. :) Glad you enjoyed!
