  3. I just read One Enchanted Eve and LOVED it!!! I should re-read One Enchanted Christmas again, I gave it 5 stars last year. Novellas keep me sane during the holidays- they are the perfect quick escape!

    1. I did too, Heidi! It's such a darling little story - and I agree! A re-read of One Enchanted Christmas IS in order. :) This is the first year I've really read many Christmas novels/novellas, and I'm so enjoying the experience.

  5. I just watched the 1949 movie Holiday Affair starring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh for the first time this past week and am kind of gogglingly in love with it. I'm hoping to rewatch it soon and blog about it because it's so unusual and nifty and sweet and fun.

    1. That's a new one for me, Rachel. I'll have to look it up! Now and again I love a classic Christmas movie. My favorites are White Christmas and Christmas in Connecticut. :)

    2. Christmas in Connecticut has never quite worked for me, but there are aspects of it I like. I'd never seen Holiday Affair before either (and it's not about an extramarital affair, just an "affair of the heart"), but it was in this 4-pack of Christmas movies I bought so I could see It Happened on Fifth Avenue, which I only kind-of liked. I'm so glad I didn't just get rid of the whole pack after not liking the one movie I bought it for!

    3. Nothing wrong with this. The only thing I don't 100% love about 'Connecticut' is the whole baby thing. I think that gets a tiny bit out of hand. I get it's played for laughs, but it goes to extremes.

Sorry you didn't end up liking 'Fifth Avenue,' but how fun you discovered a gem. :) That's always a plus. I do also like the oldie with Doris Day, something about the 'Silvery Moon' or some such title though I don't think it's really Christmas.

    4. I think what bothers me is that, if she'd just stop lying, the whole plot would fall apart -- but it's what she should do, so there comes a point when it only keeps going to serve the plot, and that doesn't work for me as a writer OR as a Christian.

You're thinking of By the Light of the Silvery Moon, which I also like! And On Moonlight Bay, which Moon is actually a sequel to.

    5. Sure, I understand that. The plot is based entirely on a lie that spirals into MORE lies. Guess I've never thought as deeply about it, but do enjoy it for the "comedy" of it all. :)

Yes! That's the one. All of the films I've see with Doris Day are so cute though I do like some more than others.

Have you ever seen any with Deanna Durbin? Her's are in the same era, and feature lots of cute "rom coms." :)

    6. I have yet to see any Deanna Durbin films, but you're at least the third person to recommend her to me, so I'll definitely be on the lookout for her! I should check and see if Amazon Prime's instant viewing thing has any of her movies for free.
