Top Ten Tuesday | Be Still My Beating Heart (Heroes of Fiction)

Today’s bookish meme is all about the romance. This comes as no surprise since Valentine’s Day 2017 falls on a Tuesday. Here’s the official topic.

Broke and Bookish February 14 | All About Romance Tropes/Types -- top ten favorite hate-to-love romances (from books or movies or tv), top ten favorite (or least favorite) instalove romances, favorite slow-burn romances, favorite starcrossed lovers, etc. etc. Can go so many ways with this one). – Broke and Bookish

List | 23 Wholesome Romantic-Comedies

Last year I wrote a post that featured fictional crushes. Or some of them. This year I’m copy-catting my own post and continuing with that theme because writing it was such a fun time. Never fear though, with exception to one dude, this is an entirely new list of wonderful men (because, an entire year can introduce one to so many new Prince Charming’s), most of whom are superior in so many ways.

Top Ten Tuesday | Fictional Crushes

That said, I do realize that among the men I feature below, there are those who are, for lack of a better term emotionally “damaged.” Nonetheless, I adore these characters for so many reasons, a few of which I will probably talk about down below.

Some of these men aren’t from books so in that way I’m breaking some “rules,” but when you think of it, with exception to actual historical pillars, all characters begin with a pen and sheet of paper whether it’s a novel or script. So, without further preamble, there shall be fan girling. You’ve been warned.

1. Archer Vandenberg from Anchor in the Storm | Although his character is what should – and does, ultimately endear this leading man, I’ll confess something. The image of Archer in Navy white’s does nothing to hamper the attraction. Goodreads

2. Atticus Aldridge from Downton Abbey | Despite his late-to-the-party entrance into the Crawley family, I adored this character.

3. Chuck Bartowski from Chuck (TV Series) | Yeah, I’ll admit. I crush on the tech nerd.

4. Colonel Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies | Why yes I may have more of a crush on this awesome, totally kick-butt Darcy than I do on the “original” Darcy. This is saying something since I wasn’t too fond of him in the beginning! (But then I suppose that's the attraction Darcy's character is meant to inspire!) Goodreads

5. Drew Farthering from the Drew Farthing Mysteries

6. Johnny from Jericho (ITV Series) | We meet Johnny in the underrated period drama, Jericho. Sadly this one is also a short series since it didn’t receive a renewal. That notwithstanding, go forth and watch this one. I crazy crush on this leading man – the way he loves Annie, without letting her put him in her box of “emotions not to be touched,” is admirable, romantic and perfect.

7. Gilbert Blythe Anne of Green Gables | Why Gil didn't make my list last year will forever be to my shame. This is my attempt to remedy that.

8. Ian Shaw from If Ever I Would Leave You | Despite his story being the one that threads author Susan May Warren's series together (meaning, we'll get to know him truly over 3 books), I really liked his character. Goodreads

9. Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey (ITV Series) | Yet another oversight (from last year's list). Shame on me.

10. Prince Kit from Cinderella (Disney) | Yes, I already featured Kit on my list from last year. The reason for him being on this list (two years running – what?!) is purely for, ahem, aesthetics. No, really, it is. Need further explanation? *points to above photo*

11. Tom Branson from Downton Abbey (ITV Series) | This is one character who really grew on me over the 6 seasons this period drama series was on. By final episode, he became one of my favorites.

12. Trace Riley from Chesapeake Shores (Book and Hallmark Series)

    1. Thanks! I have WAY too much fun with this list. Branson and Matthew are two favorites, and I couldn't help myself: I *had* to add Kit for the second time. :D

Thanks for making Finding Wonderland one of your Top Ten Tuesday stops.

    1. As did I, Greg. He "grew up" so much. I loved the way he eventually became a part of the family, without reservation - both on his and their part. Such great writing. Atticus and Drew are also both favorites. And you know, Drew would have fit quite neatly into the 'Downton' world. :)

      Thanks so much for visiting!

    1. RIGHT!? I just started watching the show this past year (I remember seeing the trailers when it was on, and laughing out loud, but then I never watched it) and I'm 100% a fangirl! Cannot wait to see how it all ends. Happy re-watching. And yay for Kit! :)

      Thanks for visiting, Lindsey.

    1. Lianne, HI! So good to see you, friend. :)

Jericho is SO good. It was far too short, but I thought it was a brilliant little series, and well worth watching despite the risk of being mad (or happy) at the conclusion. :)

      Glad you stopped by.

  9. Thanks for adding Archer! He's blushing :) And yes, the team at Revell who chooses cover models has excellent taste.

    1. My pleasure, Sarah. He's totally a hero worth swooning over - and the uniform is just a small part of that. :)

Revell DOES a fabulous job choosing the models. Love all of your covers. :)

Thanks so much for stopping by.

  10. This topic is awesome, yet again! YES to including Kit again. I also love Gil, Tom, and Atticus. Trace Riley is an appropriate one to include, as well! Have you read the book series Chesapeake Shores is based on?? (I personally haven't, but I like the family dynamic of the series). I need to add some of these to my TBR/watchlist!

IAN SHAW. I *need* for him and Sierra to be together. I'm reading Rescue Me right now and the few times he's made an appearance on page, he seems to dominate the room. I'm anticipating how Susan will transform that whole relationship. !!!

    1. Thanks, Courtney. As usual, I'll admit, I had a great deal of fun putting everything together. Kit needed to be on this list. Purely for obtaining the proper "look" of course. ;)

Gil, Tom and Atticus. Love them! I haven't read the 'Chesapeake' books. But the show is really good. We both need to check the books out!

Right!? I'm so with you as regards Ian and Sierra. I'm so afraid it's going to come down to the "last minute" before they get together. They're so perfect, and are a perfect example of letting other things blind that attraction.

Excited to read your Top Ten Tuesday (sounds awesome!). Thanks for stopping by. :)

    1. Ian is one of my new favorites too, Amanda. Love him, and cannot wait to see how he and Sierra's story turns out. Hopefully it's of the HEA variety. :)

(And me too! I just want to know how it ends NOW. What's with this waiting business!? :D)

      Thanks for visiting.

...I agree. Chuck is SO fun. How can one NOT like the dude!? (Morgan on the other hand... ;D)

      Thanks for visiting!

    1. Thanks, Steph. I had to include this version of Darcy, not the least of which being because of his epic "coat work." (There's just something about a dude that can use a duster coat to the best of their advantage.)

      Appreciate you visiting!

    1. Isn't he!? I finally started the show (it used to advertise on TV, and I'd always think, "Aww, how cute!" but never watched it), so he's in the forefront of my mind just now. :)

...and thanks! I thought this was a pretty snazzy list too (I mean... those faces!). Appreciate you visiting, Hallie.

  17. Oh, Gilbert! Like countless other Canadian girls, I definitely had a girlhood crush on Gilbert, and just adored his relationship with Anne, and their eventual happy ending!

    1. Gilbert is the ideal leading man. Plus, the actor who played him? *swoon* Love their relationship despite the fact it took them a long time to get there. :)
