Armchair Book Expo, Day One | #ThisISMe and Welcome

Hello, readers, friends and new visitors. This post is an example in how blogger/bookish crazy I am. Why, you may ask. Or maybe not – and that’s totally cool. But if you are curious, here’s why. So… Monday night, there I was, browsing the Internet, looking at my Twitter feed and then, suddenly, I remembered: #ArmchairBookExpo should be starting. Soon. As I navigated over to their website, I looked up the schedule (several weeks ago when I visited, it wasn’t listed). What I didn’t realize was that Armchair BEA was, in fact, beginning Wednesday May 31st.

So, without having done any prep work or prepped in any way for this week, I decided, “I can still pull it off!” [Note: Next year, remind me to forgo BEA if I give myself such little leeway.]

With all that said, we now kick off another year of Armchair Book Expo. If you don’t know what Armchair BEA is, it’s a fun event that a team of talented individuals put together for those of us who don’t travel to BEA – such as myself. No matter how much I’d like to go, it simply isn’t practical, so instead, I join in the fun from home version.

Today, as with every year in the “day one” activities, we are asked to introduce ourselves as the point of Topic One which is Introductions.

First, Welcome to Finding Wonderland. If you’re a new reader, I hope you enjoy browsing and visiting. If you’re an oldie #BookBestie reader, thanks for hanging out here. Here’s a little more about Finding Wonderland…

Content… discussions, reviews (books and film), booktube fun (hauls, wrap ups, book tags, “What Readers are Saying”), memes (like Top Ten Tuesday), and giveaways.
Conversation… I love the conversations sparked by some of the posts that show up here. I welcome and encourage conversation, even if and when in contrast to the ultimate conclusion of my scribbles. All I ask is that you be respectful of my opinions and those of your fellow comment-ers.
What's in a Name? Finding Wonderland… because all stories should have a sense of magical “Wonderland.”

By way of making this easier or simpler or fun, the organizers have created a series of ten prompts for bloggers to answer as part of their Introductions day one prompt.

Here we go…

I am . . . an aspiring writer, book blogger, creator, Etsy shop co-owner, and reader.

Currently . . . waiting for the UPS truck (guys, I’m so excited because, finally I bought a decent DSLR) so I can film my May Book Haul and Wrap Up Booktube video.
I love . . . my family. Because they’re awesome.
My favorite . . . song (of the moment) is Tim McGraw’s ‘Humble & Kind.’ Or cover artist Tiffany Alvord’s ‘Rockabye.’ Or… yeah, see what I mean about that “of the moment”??
My least favorite . . . genre is horror. *shudder*
My current read . . . is Toward a Secret Sky (and is really quite interesting!)
My summer plans . . . aren't unusual. It’s a #Staycation, reading and booktube-ing for this girl.
My buddy . . . there are SO many of my #BookBesties in this community. Once in a while we actually organize ourselves to do a buddy read-a-long
My blog/channel/social media . . . chat with me on any of the following social media outlets

The best . . . film I recently saw is a toss-up between Everything, Everything (so sweet!) or the Indie film Carrie Pilby (which I totally did not know is based on a YA novel).
______________
That’s day one of Armchair BEA wrapped. Comment down below and introduce yourself and blog. I’d love to chat all things bookish with you.

Thank you for visiting Finding Wonderland.

    1. They sure are, Steph! I cannot wait to learn about mine since I've never had a DSLR like this is. So far, it's been lots of fun. And I plan to keep that up tomorrow. :D

    1. Hi, Elizabeth! Great of you to stop by - I think we met last year during Armchair BEA. :)

I'm always glad to have the UPS man bring me books or as was the case today, a camera! And thanks. It's been fun so far. Looking forward to tomorrow when I have the daytime natural light to really use my camera! :)

      Appreciate you stopping by.

  3. I love UPS. We have to keep our dog away from the UPS truck because when we lived in Kentucky the UPS guy always gave our dog a bone. SO...now she thinks all UPS guys have to give her a bone and if they don't she won't let them near the house. LOL. It's a pleasure to meet you. I am a historical romance author attending Armchair Book Expo.

    1. Aw, what a fun story! I can understand how that'd be confusing. :) And yes, UPS is always welcome because, of course, they bring books. *happy face*

It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Allison! Appreciate you stopping by.

    1. Awesome! I hope you enjoy the film, Monica. I too liked the book, and the Everything, Everything adaptation is really well made. :)

      Appreciate you visiting.

  7. I only signed up last week. So I'm pretty much winging it this year. I have a trusty mirrorless Olympus camera for all my photography and the ocassional video.

    1. You did better than I did. :) We'll wing it together I suppose... and hopefully we'll do just fine.

I read a bit about mirrorless cameras but didn't wade too far into them because all the other information out there about DSLRs (which is where I started) was confusing enough. Do you like your camera?

      Thanks so much for visiting.

  8. My least favorite genre is horror too! Although there are some books in that genre that I love (like We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman). A slightly creepy atmosphere is okay for me, lots of blood, gore, and monsters not so much.

Anyway, glad you signed up even belatedly, have a great week!

    1. It's just NOT my thing, Lory. That said, as you say, depending on the severity, I can take "creepy." Neil Gaiman is an author I heard lots of good things about, but haven't read any of his books. Maybe someday. :)

Thanks! Me too. Appreciate you stopping by.

  9. Happy Armchair Book Expo! I don't like horror either - I'm scared too easily.

  10. I just learned about Armchair Book Expo about 15 minutes before the Twitter chat, so I had no time to craft an introduction or best practices post, but I'm enjoying the opportunity to lurk on other people's blogs and leave comments!

My blog is Reel Literature, and I mostly blog about book to movie adaptations. I just started blogging in September, so I'm a new kid on the block.

I'm not really of fan of horror either, but I do enjoy a psychological thriller. I'm currently reading Emma by Jane Austen.

    1. Nothing wrong with that, Katisha! It's still a fun way to discover new blogs/bloggers and readers. One of the great things about this community are the conversations and meeting amazing bloggers. :)

Welcome to blogging! Your blog sounds fabulous, and I very much look forward to visiting it (this week). Thanks for introducing Reel Literature.

How are you enjoying Emma? The only Austen I've read is Sense & Sensibility but I adore the film/series adaptations. :)

      Thanks for visiting!

  11. Ooh I love ‘Humble & Kind!’ One of my best friends sang that at his graduation party and dedicated it to everyone that helped him through school. I was a sobbing mess! :)

  15. Staycations are sometimes the best vacations. My family is going to a nearby national park for a few days this summer, but it's going to be one of those vacations where we don't have much planned for while we're there.

    1. How fun! I do hope you enjoy the trip, Haley. (Low key trips are always the best.) There are SO many places in the US I'd love to someday see, but those opportunities haven't aligned. Yet. :)

      Appreciate you stopping by. :)
