Top Ten Tuesday | 15 Books With Summer Waves and Sandy Beaches on the Cover (Mostly)

Summer is nearly upon us, which means one thing. It’s time to break out the celebratory summer-y things that make summer, well, essentially summer. We’re getting a jump start on that task with this upcoming holiday weekend that is, the unofficial start of summer.

Broke and Bookish May 23 | Summer Reads Freebie - Broke and Bookish

For most of us, summer might be a slower time of year when it comes to reading. For me, it’s the same pace. Since I don’t travel (#Landlocked) and don’t ordinarily do anything any more exciting than any other season, I keep to my usual reading habits. Ideally this should mean I recommend books on this list. Meaning talk about the books I’ve actually read. Alas, that isn’t what today’s list is all about.
While there may be one or two (Edit: There's more than that!) on this list that I have read (and LOVED!), most of these were chosen for their aesthetics which translate to beach-y waves and summer vibes. Besides, we all need plenty of these, right??

Let’s have a peek at what books made the list. (All are sure to give you strong summer-y feels.)

BOOKS on my SHELF with SUMMER VIBES

1. Of Poseidon by Anna Banks | Another series I fully intended to read loong ago. Can you get much more "summer" than a cover with a mermaid on its jacket?? Amazon | Goodreads

2. Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett | Just recently bought this one and it sounds really cute. Here’s hoping this YA spin on You’ve Got Mail hits all the right keys. Amazon | Goodreads

3. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken | This one is my most “out there” pick because its design is dark, but how could I not add it?? It’s beautiful plus it does feature a seascape. Kind of. Amazon | Goodreads

4. The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han | I've had every intention to read a novel by Jenny Han for eons now. Here's hoping I finally nudge myself to do just that. Amazon | Goodreads

5. Just Between You and Me by Jenny B. Jones | Say what?? There's a novel by Jenny B. Jones (with this much distance between its release and today!) that I haven't read?? Shocking I know. Amazon | Goodreads

6. Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson | Cannot wait to read this one because it’s Morgan Matson, and despite the fact that it’s an older title from her, I’m still anticipating it. Amazon | Goodreads

7. Lucky in Love by Kasie West | Is this one a beach-y scene? No, but come one. Can you depict summer vibes any better than this cute bit of romantic adorable?? Amazon | Goodreads

BOOKS on my SHELF with SUMMER VIBES (That I’ve Read!)

1. and 2. Barefoot Summer and Just a Kiss by Denise Hunter | Not only do I 100% adore these novels (yes, I have actually read them both!), the setting the respective cover’s depict are also pretty. Dreamy and well suited to the story inside their pages. Denise on Goodreads

3. and 4. The Red Door Inn and Where Two Hearts Meet by Liz Johnson | Pretty beaches, lighthouses and an island (Prince Edward to be precise). These books meet all the requirements of today's topic! Liz on Goodreads

5. and 6. I’ll be Yours and There You’ll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones | My reader and fangirl love of Jenny’s work has been well documented. We’ll leave it at that. Jenny on Goodreads

7. Longing by Karen Kingsbury | Don't remember much about this book, but look at the pretty orange vibes of summer! Amazon | Goodreads

8. When I Fall in Love by Susan May Warren | This novel is SO sweet, plus part of it takes place in Hawaii. Amazon | Goodreads

    1. I agree, Lianne! Gotta' love the summer feels some books give us - and sometimes that aesthetic is all the reason we need to pick up a certain book. :)

You too! Hope you have a fantastic summer, and as always, friend, great to chat with you. Hope you're doing well. :)

  2. I loved Morgan Matson so much after reading Amy and Roger's Epic Detour but Second Summer left me flat. Hope you find it better than I did. My Summerish TTT

    1. Bummer! That's always a disappointing takeaway. I've heard (generally) good things about 'Summer,' so I'm hopeful - and yeah! I did enjoy 'Amy & Roger' too. :)

      Thanks for visiting, Anne.

    1. Thank you, Greg! I did have fun with this setting. Bring on the summer vibes, right??

I haven't read either Anna's or Jenn's book, but I'm interested in both - albeit for different reasons. Hope you enjoy both!

      Appreciate you visiting, as always.

  10. Great list! I have read Alex, Approximately and it was amazing! I love watching old Hollywood movies and there were so many references to them in the book, I have found a couple of new ones to watch! The romance is really cute and does not feel like insta love. I hope you'll enjoy it too! Happy reading and have a great week!

    1. Awww, how fun! I love that a contemporary YA book uses classics to add character to its story. That makes me smile - and be all the more anxious to discover Jenn's story. (Also, three cheers for no insta love - BEST. NEWS. EVER.)

Thanks so much for stopping by - and same to you, Lynn. Have a great week!

    1. Well... I'm not sure about that, Barb. ;) I mean, yes, those I haven't read, in an ideal world, I'd like to read them, but there's zero guarantee I will. Time will tell.

      Thanks so much for visiting!

    1. I have read Longing actually. :) I don't remember it well because it's been SO long ago, but I do think it was my favorite book in that series - likely in part because of that gorgeous cover!

      Thanks for visiting!

  13. I haven't read any of the books on your list, since I'm not really one for summery reads as such, but they do all have very pretty covers.

  14. Most of these have been on my TBR list for ages! The only one I've actually read is Of Poseidon which didn't really impress me. I love the idea of it but, it wasn't something that managed to keep me going and make me want to continue on with the series. I also can't wait to pick up Alex Approximately. It was one of my most anticipated releases an I really want to get my hands on it soon! Happy reading and I hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. Always a bummer when a book disappoints - I've experienced that a few times too. And I've heard so-so things about Of Poseidon, but I'm still curious, so here's hoping! :D

      Hope we both enjoy 'Alex.'

And thanks, you too! Have a great rest of the week. Appreciate you stopping by. :)
