The Perfect Bride: ‘Bridal Boot Camp’ Teaches Honesty in RomCom

by

Those who frequent Hallmark Channel enjoy that they can “count on” a parade of familiar faces frequenting their cute romantic-comedies. But what’s even more fun to see co-stars with great chemistry reunited. Pascale Hutton is joined by her TV husband Kavan Smith (and When Calls the Heart co-star) in this comedy about two people who meet at the wrong time…

The Perfect Bride

The Perfect (2017) Hallmark TV Film Review

Molly White (Hutton) does the one thing for brides she herself couldn’t recognize. She helps them walk down the aisle with a sense of self-confidence (because who doesn’t want to look good in that dress?), but also teaches them to enter marriage in an emotionally healthy place. As a former marriage counselor, Molly is qualified to blend her fitness classes with the training her former profession allows. What she doesn’t expect is the attraction she forms to a client’s fiancé.

Nick Dyson (Smith) is a wedding photographer who recently proposed to his girlfriend. When he and Molly meet at a wedding (sharing mutual friends), they were thrown together for a turn on the dance floor. Little does Molly realize that Nick is attached, and furthermore, his fiancee is one of Molly’s new students!

Despite the way this plot sounds, this film is again, magically sweet. True there’s the possibility of Nick’s character being the guy who “leads” Molly on when they meet (when he clearly shouldn’t), and yet this isn’t a vibe I pick up from their meeting. Instead, the writer wisely allows room in Nick’s introduction; he’s gentlemanly and still, as one would wish, charming without being someone we cannot like.

TV FILM REVIEW | The Perfect Catch: Hallmark’s ‘Perfect’ RomCom Hits Home Run

Of course, seeing Kavan and Pascale in this is lovely as it brings us straight back to their seasonal arc on When Calls the Heart. (They play married couple Lee and Rosemary.) It’s fun to see them play off each other sans suspenders, checked plaids and petticoats. The contemporary chemistry is just as lovely as that of their western counterparts who we love so well. Their story in The Perfect Bride is as attention grabbing as we hope for, and keeps us smiling.

The rest of the story is equally as good. I enjoy the unusual barrier that keeps the would-be relationship at bay; the camaraderie between sisters; and of course (as already stated), it’s lovely to see co-stars reteam together. As is true of every film I see from this “Heart of TV” network, The Perfect Bride is lovely. It’s ‘perfect’ viewing for a rainy day (or any day, really!) and if you’re anything like me, it’s sure to brighten your day.  ♥

    1. SO glad you liked this one too, Becky. I haven't see Jack Wagner's (nor did I see its prequel) or the last one. Don't know if I'll see Wedding March but I will see My Favorite Wedding. Sometime. ;)

    2. To be fair, I didn't watch Jack Wagner's, either. Well, I saw the last 10 minutes! I did watch the first one last year. And apparently they're filming a third one. I did enjoy My Favorite Wedding–it's cute, just not as cute as this one ;-)

    3. Eventually I'll probably see the 'March' trilogy, but I guess it didn't look as good to me. Who knows! Finally saw My Favorite Wedding and I thought it was darling! Great witty banter between the leads. :)

  1. Woah, Lee and Rosemary falling in love in a movie separate from the "When Calls the Heart" series?! Sounds interesting. I absolutely love them in WCTH.

    1. It is, Korin! SUPER cute, and of course, seeing Kavan and Pascale (as new characters, of course) co-star in this contemporary romcom make it all the more fun. They are TOO cute on When Calls the Heart so I hope you also enjoy them in this. :)

      Thanks for visiting, as always.
