Month in Review | January 2018 + #Booktube Talk

Month in Review | January 2018 + #Booktube Talk

Ok, I'm just going to say it. OHMYGOSH! The first month of 2018 is already come and gone - like, what!? There are now only 11 months left in the year we JUST rang in. (Like, wasn't that just last night we did?) Ciao, January 2018. Bonjour, February!

Another month’s end means another “month in review” here on Finding Wonderland. Also... gosh darn it, I'm still adjusting to writing, and saying, 2018!!

Here we go.

»Favorites from January 2018«

1. Family and Christmas | Yes, that's right, I typed 'Christmas.' We finally got together with my mom's side for our family Christmas, just this past weekend. As always, there was much laughter and craziness (in the best kinds of ways).

2. INSPYs 2018 | The 2018 INSPY Awards is now in FULL swing. Not only is our nomination period come and gone (and we've not gotten that longlist out on the interwebs), the Advisory Board is also gearing up to read said books.

3. Michael's (and Bookstagram Shopping) | I made a stop at Michael's recently for the first time in a long time. Needless to say, I had quite the armful after browsing their beautiful floral (stems) section. Having to put most of it back (because note to self: you cannot buy them all!!) was tough. Who else shops for bookstagram photo accessories?

4. Starbucks | Went to Starbucks a few times this past month (my uptick in stopping here can be entirely blamed on the two recently opened stores who are now only 30 minutes away vs an hour+), and though I miss the seasonal offerings, I finally got the Smoked Butterscotch Frappuccino. Needless to say, it's yummy, too.

» Bookstagram Challenge «

There’s another #WishfulWonder Bookstagram challenge. The fun begins today, February 1! All the details can be found in the introduction post. PS: if you’d ever like to join in as a host, let me know.

 »Favorite Blog Posts«
(Blog posts that, while not necessarily the most popular, were fun to write)

1. Booktube Talk | 2018 Releases to Anticipate: January – March (or So): Talking about upcoming books to anticipate? Now that's my idea of bookworm fun!

3. The House on Foster Hill by Jaime Jo Wright – Atmospheric, Gothic-Inspired Time Slip Novel

4. One Winter Weekend (2018) – Wintry Weekend Romance Reunites Hallmark Co-Stars | Cute and almost fairytale-esque, this is my favorite of Hallmark's Winterfest originals (of 2018). Which is your favorite?

5. Snowed Inn Christmas (2017) – Cute and Witty Lifetime Romance | Anytime I can gush over a cute romcom (even if it is a now past seasonal one), I'm in.

⇉ THROWBACK FAVORITES | With Valentine's Day fast approaching, today the throwback posts take a look at a few posts that cater to the commercial

what else have I been up to?

Silver Petticoat: We're heading into a hiatus at Silver Petticoat (with few to no articles over this next month.) Nonetheless, here’s a recap look at what I contributed to the amazing webzine, Silver Petticoat.

Articles and Lists | We preview the winter 2018 box office this month; plus I turn the spotlight on Will and Elizabeth in a recent Romantic Moment of the Week spotlight - because, we love these two!

Last month I used the backdrop of snow to talk about some romantic moments in films and TV. This past month, we head to the ice skating rink, which can also make a scene all the more romantic, right? This is why I wrote a list of ten scenes in which a pair of ice skates and an ice skating rink takes a scene to great heights. (Plus, it's partially in celebration of the upcoming winter Olympics, too!)

...and last but not least, we preview Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Valentine's Day. Squee! Which are you most excited about?

PS: I also previewed Hallmark's 2018 Winterfest which is - *sad face* - now over.

Film and TV Reviews | To kick off the New Year, I review Murder on the Orient Express; I take a trip down romantic-comedy nostalgic lane with Sweet Home Alabama, and introduce you to a new (and quirky) romance, We Love You, Sally Carmichael

TV Recaps | None!

As always, thanks to the editors of Silver Petticoat and my fellow contributors! Working with you all is always fun.

  1. I really need to make a bookstagram shopping trip! My props are pretty much non-existant right now and I need to remedy that! Any good suggestions?

    1. Bookstgram shopping trips are SO fun (albeit "dangerous." I always end up putting *some* of my stuff back). For floral, I've discovered Michaels (or the one I was in) is THE place. Their stuff is gorgeous. For cute knick-knack stuff, there's Target (and oftentimes, the section I'm browsing is really inexpensive). Let me know if you make any good discoveries! I'm always up for talking Bookstagram awesome. :)
