Old and New TV Shows I Binge Watch

by

Hey, hey Top Ten Tuesday friends! Today we’re ready to talk another list, only this time around, it’s not about books. Our That Artsy Reader Girl topic September 4: Bingeworthy TV Shows [and] Movies

(The new fall TV season is starting up this month, so let’s talk about what shows everyone should watch when they’re not reading!)

Who else here is a TV addict? Please tell me I’m not the only one. Seriously, I’m watching way too many shows just now. But they’re all for varying degrees of binge sessions. I have some I watch when I want to laugh and nothing else. Then there’s others that are all about the drama (whether it’s because of intrigue or action) and I watch those when I’m cool with something a little more intense.

Though we can talk about anything, today we talk about fall 2018 TV! Below you’ll find today’s Finding Wonderland list a “mixed bag” of content. You’ll some a pair of oldie shows I’m only just now obsessed with; shows that are returning this fall and I’m
thrilled about; and a pair of new shows I’m curious about. The reason for the slim new-TV-show talk? I plan on publishing
a “Fall TV” preview (next week) as we often do here!   So, take a sneak peek at fall TV of 2018, and do come back to see the full Finding Wonderland “preview.”

Let’s have a look.

TV SHOWS I’M ADDICTED TO: BINGEWORTHY TV SHOWS

1: Jack Ryan | This past weekend I began watching Jack Ryan, an adaptation of Tom Clancey’s titular novel. It stars John Krasinski as Jack in a mental (and intense!) thriller that’s a bit slow-moving (the pace picks up as the plot thickens), but still interesting
drama. Watch Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime

Content: this one is rated TV-MA, and contains sexual situations and nudity as well as violence and profanity (including the f-word)

2: Last Man Standing | Recently started watching this one after hearing good reports on it. It’s a hilarious half-hour comedy that you never walk away from sad – or I haven’t yet. It puts a smile on my face every time. Oh, and despite its cancellation, this one is set to return this fall on Fox! Purchase on Amazon Video

3: New Girl | This show is silly, yes, and oftentimes inappropriate, but it is hilarious! Gotta’ love Jess and her band of misfit roomies. Purchase on Amazon Video

Content: this one is rated TV-14, and contains adult conversations and sexual situations

4: Ordeal by Innocence | This is a darker tale of the Agatha Christie novel. I’m used to the ITV Miss Marple version, and let me tell you, this Prime original is nothing like it. But the chilling darkness of the story (and its characters, all of whom are miserable) is tolerable because of the stellar cast. Bonus trivia bit! The ITV version of this story wrote Miss Marple into the tale, a character who isn’t a part of the original novel. Watch Ordeal by Innocence on Amazon Prime

Content: this one is rated TV-MA, and contains adult conversations and sexual situations, and the F-word

RETURN TV SHOWS I’M EXCITED ABOUT

5: Bull | Of course, who wouldn’t be excited to see the return of Dr. Jason Bull? Initially I began this one because NCIS alum Michael Weatherly took on the titular role. The show has since made me a fan by its own merits. Purchase on Amazon Video

6: NCIS | I’ve loved this show for many (many) years. It’s the perfect balance of mystery and familial ties – meaning, while some of the cases are darker, this show never gets “too dark.” It understands how to balance the tragedy these noble agents fight to stop with brilliant humor. Plus, the military honors tugs at my heart strings – every time. Purchase S1(DVD) on Amazon or on Amazon Video

NEW TV SHOWS I’M EXCITED ABOUT

7: Magnum P.I. (CBS) | Call me a nerd or old-fashioned, but yes, I did watch the entire run of Tom Selleck’s Magnum P.I. (I also went through a “western phase” in which I watched many old western movies). With its new spin and cast, I’m definitely looking
forward to this as a “good-time” show.

8: The Rookie (ABC) | Another one I’m mostly curious about for its leading actor. I’m excited to see Castle aka Nation Fillion return in a new drama. This one looks different (which I’m glad for), but still really good!

Which shows are you…1: currently obsessed with? 2: excited to see return?3: excited to see debut? Share all of your TV feels down below! I’d love to know what you think! Do you have any show recommendations for me (aka what are you
loving)? How did you spin this week’s topic!?If you joined today’s meme, make sure and leave your Top Ten Tuesday links below so I can visit – or simply introduce your blog. I’d be glad to visit your bookish spaces.

Thank you for visiting! Come back soon.

  1. We just cut the cable cord, and so I won't be able to catch many of the new shows this season. I'll have to wait and see what everyone thinks and watch them when they hit Netflix. I will have to check out Ordeal by Innocence. That sounds like something I would really like.

    1. Nothing wrong with this! I use Netflix, Prime and do have a subscription to another service so I can watch Hallmark, but other than this, I've never had cable. :) Hope you enjoy Ordeal by Innocence. It's creepy… but good.

      Appreciate you dropping by.

  2. New Girl was awesome, and Ordeal by Innocence sounds like it's worth a watch! That one's new to me…

I'm kinda fond of the Tom Selleck Magnum as well, it's like a comfort show. :)

    1. Isn't New Girl the cutest?! It always makes me laugh.

Ordeal by Innocence is twisty and dark (compared to the Miss Marple installments), but also, REALLY good.

Well said about Magnum P.I.. And I miss those kinds of shows.

Appreciate you visiting, Greg. Thanks! :)

  3. I haven't watched much TV in years, so I wrote about books that were made into ovies and which one was better. I've heard a lot of good things about Last Man Standing, but I just don't seem to have the attention span to sit and watch TV for that long (says the person who will sit down and read a 600 page book, LOL).

    1. Nothing wrong with this, Brooke – and I love book-to-movie adaptations. That always makes for a fun blog post. :)

Last Man Standing is really fun, but also moves SO quick (for me) because it's only 20 minutes whereas most shows are double (or longer) than this. I'm kind of the opposite. 600 page books *scare* me. They're so daunting. :D

      Thanks for visiting, Brooke.

    1. This is all a part of Top Ten Tuesday's fun, Shealea! Discovering new finds. Thanks so much for the visit. :)

Enjoy Last Man Standing. It's hilarious!!

  4. Nice list! I've watched a few episodes of Last Man Standing but never watched it consistently. I like what I've seen though, so I might have to watch it more regularly. I'm glad to hear Nathan Fillion is in a new show! I loved him in Castle. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

    1. Last Man Standing is lots of fun! I love that it's a comedic show in a world of crime dramas (which I realize I watch a few too many of also). Right!? I'm crazy excited about The Rookie, too. Three cheers for Castle. :)

      Thanks for visiting!

    1. New Girl is a bundle of TV show cute! I've heard good things about 'Brooklyn,' but haven't yet seen an episode. I did watch the pilot of The Good Place (because Kristin Bell aka Veronica Mars), and the UK always has the best shows! I've loved so many of the British period dramas. :)

      Thanks for visiting!

  5. I've been looking forward to the Jack Ryan series and the Miss Marple adaptation sounds Ahhhmaazing! Of course New Girl is always a favorite thanks to all the humor. Have you check out The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime? It's pretty funny, if also a bit inappropriate humor wise, but if you don't mind bad language it is a fun show.

    1. It's so good, Brittaney – intense, but good! Don't you love Miss Marple? She's one of my favorites (I wish she were in this new adaptation too). Love New Girl. It makes me laugh, and that's what I look for!

I haven't see 'Mrs. Maisel,' but have heard AMAZING things about it. Thanks for the suggestion – and visit. :)

  6. I've actually never seen one of these TV shows! This list will definitely come in handy next time I'm in a binge-watching mood :) Jack Ryan and New Girl look especially interesting and like something I would enjoy!

    1. YAY! Hope you discover something new to enjoy. 'Jack' and 'Girl' are very different, but equally good in their respective genres. :)

      Appreciate your visit, Mara.

    1. Me too!! I'm only in the early episodes of season two, but it's so fun. Glad to know it remains this way overall. (And I'm already sad it will come to an end for me soon!)

      Appreciate you visiting, Alicia. :)

    1. Me too, Ashley; it makes me smile and that's often all I require.

Same. The Rookie looks good, plus I liked Nathan in Castle so there is that too. :)

Glad you came by to visit!

    1. YAY for more New Girl. It always good for a late-night binge (and laugh).

I've never seen The 100, but do see it around on blogs (including your lovely space *smile*). Who knows, perhaps I'll give it a chance when I'm bored and looking for something new (that I don't need to becoming addicted to).

      Thanks for visiting, Shannon.

  7. Ordeal by Innocence looks like one I would enjoy! I need to check into Bull, since I have seen it advertised and wondered about it.
I'm interested in seeing how The Rookie turns out!

    1. It's really good (but intense), Amanda. Let me know if you see/enjoy it.

Bull is SO good, and I have high hopes for The Rookie.

      Thanks for the visit!! :)

  8. I can't wait for The Rookie–I have a lot of love for Nathan Fillion :-) I've enjoyed Last Man Standing every time I've caught it–glad it's coming back! I watched the first episode of Jack Ryan over the weekend; I thought it was fine but not spectacular. My sister says I just need to keep going! As for returning shows, I'm most looking forward to The Flash and Jane the Virgin. I'm such a sucker for the CW shows :-) Here's my TTT.

    1. Did you see Nathan guest in America Housewife? SO much fun! Also, ditto! 'Last Man' is way fun; makes me laugh every time.

I think one of the movie's is "better" (but it's been WAY to long since I watched the film), but I would agree. The series becomes more intense and interesting the further in you go. Hope you liked the rest!

I love my CW superheroes. ;)

      Thanks so much for visiting.

    1. I don't remember that I found Bull had a middle lull, Jazmin. But I do understand the interest-lost TV show problem. I still love the show though. :)

Thanks so much for visiting. :)

  9. I’ve been binge watching Castle over the last month, so I’m super excited to see Nathan Fillion in The Rookie! I binge watch a lot of shows on Food Network and HGTV if I’m given the chance. Beat Bobby Flay, Worst Cooks in America, Fixer Upper, Cutthroat Kitchen, Chopped…My feel-good binge is Hart of Dixie because I love Bluebell and the Wade/Zoe chemistry.
