Lady Antebellum: Just a Kiss

Lady Antebellum: Just a Kiss. Chatting about the swoon-y single from the country trio, Lady Antebellum. All text is © Rissi JC / RissiWrites.com

About the song:

Album: Own the Night Released: 2011 Writing Credits: Hillary Scott, Charles Kelly and Dave Haywood Label: Capitol Nashville Length: 3:41 Certification: Platinum – #1 Single

The story: the song tells of a burgeoning relationship between a guy and girl who meet by happenstance and instantly feel a connection… but they want to take the relationship slowly… to get to know the other person instead of recklessly jumping into a whirlwind romance.

My thoughts: for once a modern love song promotes getting to know the person without rushing into something that may cause heartache or become unhealthy. I suppose if you really wanted to analyze the song on a “deeper” level, you might interrupt sensual overtures (“Lyin’ here with you so close to me…”), but it’s countered with innocent more beautiful lyrics (“I’m… caught up in your smile…”) that go against anything improper and at the surface, the song is a pretty thought.

Promoting a blossoming friendship prior to a romantic relationship is rare. Here, the trio spins a tale of two people taking things “slow,” getting to know each other rather than rushing into anything. How often do we hear secular artists urging caution in relationships? The idea of meeting the one you’re “waiting” for is such a beautiful, romantic concept. And this is one of the most charming, modern love ballads I’ve heard.

The country music group’s vocals on this track sound fabulous (as always) and I like how their voices blend and sound together.

The Lyrics:

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight… and I don’t want to mess this thing up… just a shot in the dark that you just might be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life…

  1. I think this song is super sweet. The first time I heard it, I fell in love =) Lady A is a huge favorite of mine and I think this one has the makings of becoming another "Need You Now"

  2. In complete agreement with you, Ella. The song has a kind of beautiful charm often missing from modern lyrics. I've listened to it counteless times and still love it – I'm anxiously awaiting Lady A's new album this fall!

  3. I just love this song. Love it. It's so sweet. That one line was a little off, but I like to think about it like they're laying on a picnic blanket or something like that. In a meadow :) It's definitely my favorite from them. Sierra

  4. Me, too, Sierra! Each time I hear it, I think I "fall" for it a little more – such a beautiful modern "love story" ballad.

Yeah, a couple of the lines are sketchy but for the most part, "Just a Kiss" is perfectly lovely. =)

Lady A has quickly become just one of my most fav bands.
