Taylor Swift: Red Single Review

by

The Story: Recounting all the emotions that come with a whirlwind romance – missing, losing, loving are likened to the colors, grey, blue and red. All with another spin on swirling emotions that come with the end of a relationship.

Taylor Swift: Red Single Thoughts | From the opening stanza of ‘Red,’ I sort of fell for this song. The third song to release from Swift’s upcoming album (also Red), so far, it may be my favorite – perhaps even my favorite song from the country darling yet. Maybe. That’s not to say that ‘Red’ comes across as one of my  “top ten” tunes because, it really isn’t but I have to admit, there is something about it that is pleasant.

The sound and words that accompany the instruments fit perfect and fabulously so! Like Begin Again,’ the song pays more of a tribute to her country roots. Unlike ‘Begin Again,’ here, Taylor reverts more to the sound of her “youthful” lyrical songs because of its “tragic” love story scenario but that didn’t diminish the fun because for me, I am just happy that we are getting a more “solid” lyrical story and quality.

The concept of putting colors to parallel our emotions is a clever one. But still, the story Swift spins dates itself, being again about a dizzying turn of a relationship. To put it a different way, this could have been a great deal better had the tune taken a different approach; it makes me wish that Swift had written it to cover a wider range of emotions, things experienced in love or life that goes beyond mere romance. There is so many more complexities that could incorporate into this song; even in simplistic, easy listening terms. Regardless, Taylor Swift’s latest is fun.

Lyrics:

Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street / Faster than the wind / Passionate as sin, ended so suddenly / Loving him is like trying to change your mind / Once you’re already flying through the free fall / Like the colors in autumn / So bright just before they lose it all

  1. I really liked how she used the colors to describe and go into more, shall we say "black and white" feelings in the relationship :D With the colors it was somehow more complex and simpler at the same time :D Sierra
    Keep growing beautiful!

  2. Very well put, Sierra – I like just how you phrased that. The song is "simple" but yet there is some underlying quality that is… complex!

  3. When I first heard this one, I didn't know if I'd really like it. But after listening to it a few more times I'm starting to like the tune and fall for the lyrics. :D

  4. When it comes to music, I am very much like that, Rosie. Sometimes I have to listen to a song/album several times before I should give my opinion of it. Such an example was my reaction to Carrie Underwood's last album – I was "so-so" about the first few listens but now I love it! 'Red' is a fabulous song even with its flaws. Glad you like it okay. :-)

  5. I got this web site from my pal who informed me regarding this site and at the moment this time
I am browsing this web site and reading very informative
    articles at this time.

    1. Yes, she probably does, Alyssa. I was just listening to her first album yesterday and it was so sweet. That is really the ONLY album that was pure country. That being said, surprisingly, I did like 'Red' as a CD. It had some great stuff.

    1. As do I, Vanessa – I always turn it way up when it cycles through the iPod. :)

Thanks for your kind words – visit anytime. :)
