‘NO ONE TO TRUST,’ BY LYNETTE EASON. Review of the 2014 romantic suspense novel from Revell. All text © Rissi JC

Among her peers, Lynette Eason establishes herself as a voice of talent in contemporary suspense. Each one of her novels is fast-paced and rarely five the reader a moment to reflect and experience calm (not that I’m complaining, mind you). Nevertheless this is what keeps us frantically turning the pages. The first book to kick off her new series follows Summer Abernathy whose perfect life i suddenly torn apart. On the day she and husband Kyle were to spend together away from work responsibilities Summer instead awakes to strange men in her bedroom and a gun in her face. Who is Kyle? Is he the man she fell in love with… or a man who’s hiding an unforgiveable past?

No One to Trust, By Lynette Eason | Book Review

Imminent danger may pass for Summer before chapter 2 opens, but with each clue, and the deeper the crime-solving gang digs, the more pulse-pounding suspense each chapter generates. Eason has a knack for writing short chapters (which I absolutely appreciate), and so she’s got more of a legit cause to end each one on a cliffhanger. Each turning page continues to surprise and cause us to catch our breath as we root for Summer, Kyle and those sworn to protect (A-team style!) untangle the maze of villains out to get Kyle.

Speaking of the villain – golly – the dude is evil. He hides behind his hired security however his obsession says a lot about him as a person as there’s comparisons to what it represents. For those of you that have an aversion to snakes – like myself, beware you may be “creeped out” on occasion as the reptiles are not strictly used as a metaphor. Around each corner is something sinister but thanks to Summer’s genuine personality, there’s still humanity. Eason keeps us guessing over who betrays who and which “good guy” will end up being the devious on in the end.

BOOK REVIEW | ‘CHASING SECRETS’: BOOK FOUR IN THE LYNETTE EASON SUSPENSE SERIES

Comparing this to the other suspense novels I’ve read, No One to Trust has some unique plots twists. It holds my interest and takes moments to slow down to give Summer and Kyle some “quiet” truths. This lets us revel in why and how they fell in love, and learn more about them as people. To understand the regret and trouble a tangled lie weaves. If there is a minor complaint it’d be the sudden ending. It’s the one and only thing I wish were different. That said, Eason shows no sign of slowing down, and this novel is proof of that. No One to Trust is a chilling thrill ride not to miss.

  1. I got to meet Lynette Eason last year at ACFW but I have to confess: I haven't read her books yet. I'm excited to, though. I've heard SOOOO many good things. I don't know why but sometimes it takes me longer to pick up a suspense book. I always love them when I do read them, but I have to be in the mood to start out. I think your review convinced me I've been missing out for far too long, though, when it comes to Lynette's books. :)

    1. I know what you mean, Melissa. I'm that way with historical fiction – there are very few authors I follow who write historical fiction, for some reason I'm just not as drawn to that genre (weird since I adore all of the BBC period drama) and for a while I was against suspense fiction too. That has since changed. ;)

Lynette's books are dynamic as are Irene Hannon's and Dani Pettrey's – those three always give us fabulous, pulse-pounding suspense. Hope you enjoy Lynette's if you read this book – cannot wait to know what you think! :)

  2. I'm so glad you loved this one! I did too…my review comes out sometime soon. But Lynette is my top-favorite suspense author and I always name her first – closely followed by Dani and Irene who I also LOVE. So many good ones. :) But yup!

    1. *High Five*

This is definitely one of Lynette's best. So good… and creepy. ;) The teaser for book two sounds really good so I'm anxious to see what comes of this series.

…Dani and Irene are always favorites too! :)

  3. I'm happy you liked this, too! This was my first time reading one of Lynette's novels and I really enjoyed it. While I think I like Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage books a bit better, I'll definitely check out more of Lynette's novels. I thought this one was very suspenseful and creepy…especially those snakes! ;)

And thanks for reading my review, Rissi!

    1. Dani is one of my VERY favorite suspense authors also, Jillian. As for this novel, I'm glad that you liked this especially considering it was the first you'd read by Lynette – of her prior books her "Reunion" series is my favorite.

LOL, yes, those snakes… *shudder* I was "creeped out" to say the least. ;)

Happy to read your review – it's fun to read up on what others thought. Loved it! :)

  4. I wont read this review yet, since I have yet to post my own review (SO behind on reviews!!), but I was excited to review of of Eason's books!

    1. Cannot wait to read your review, Kellie. And, I'm glad you are finally getting a chance to read one of her books. They're good, right!? ;)
