I Do, I Do, I Do: A Repeat Day Romance

by

Hallmark Channel likes to throw in the occasional original romance that differs from their norm. Though I have seen this plot before, their Groundhog Day-esque romance, I Do, I Do, I Do is quite cute, mostly thanks to its leading ladies.

I Do, I Do, I Do (2015) Hallmark Channel Review

Successful with a type A personality – one that requires “safety,” architect Jaclyn Palmer (Autumn Reeser) has just finished her biggest project yet; a children’s hospital ward expansion. For a year now, Jaclyn has been dating a respected doctor, who is also a best-selling author. Today, Peter (Antonio Cupo) has decided to surprise Jaclyn and propose. His plan? They’ll marry on Valentine’s Day… one week from now.

Thrust into a whirlwind of planning and putting together a wedding that is over-the-top and all planned by her soon to be mother-in-law, certainly nothing like Jaclyn’s dream. Then she meets Peter’s younger brother Max (Shawn Roberts), and a kiss later, everything is a mess. To make matters worse, Jaclyn wakes up the day after her wedding to relive the day again… over and over again.

Ironically of the three films to premiere on Hallmark this weekend, this is the one I’m of least interest. On a whim, I decided to see what it was all about and oh my cuteness! Cue the surprises. The whole Groundhog Day premise wore off its charm a long time ago for this girl’s movie interests. This is the reason why I was skeptical and figured on skipping this one. Whatever the writers and actors did to ensure there was a certain charm retained in the script, it works. The film breathes some fresh life into the plot and while there isn’t necessarily anything “new” about its sequence of events, it somehow tells a story that is delightful to watch.

I Do, I Do
Marketed not just as a “Countdown to Valentine’s Day” original, this one also had the opportunity to give us a reunion of its stars (Autumn, Antonio and Ali). Originally the trio starred together in Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade, this film doesn’t just put familiar faces together it also recreates the story in some respects. Autumn’s character is very similar to that of Love at the Thanksgiving Parade and she’s one half of a relationship that doesn’t seem to appreciate her or take the time to listen to what she wants. The two stories separate from there. The characters are so much fun to hang out with; particularly Kate, Jaclyn’s sister, who is hilarious – and despite the potential for repetitiveness, the film flows nicely giving us new moments to fall in love with (those beach shore scenes are the sweetest, right!?).

Given it’s unexpected sequence of events (well until Jaclyn meets a certain someone,) and how the story plays out, it’s safe to say, this one takes me by surprise. Pleasantly so. Those kinds of films are my favorite and I’m glad to have gotten the chance to enjoy this film. If you like the Hallmark programming or the cast, be sure to make a date with this romance.

    1. I agree, Hannah. This one WAS funny. Felt a bit too much like some other films I've seen, but they made it "fresh," which I loved. Hope you liked the rest of the film. :)

  1. Great review, Rissi! While the movie was very sweet, I just didn't like Autumn & Antonio's characters not getting together in the end. I guess it didn't feel right, to me, since I love "Love at the Thanksgiving Day Parade" so much! :)

    1. I get that, Net! I expected them to get together too (I hadn't read about the brother being part of the plot or brushed it aside if I did). To be honest, I didn't mind. Probably because it took me by surprise and sometimes that's just what I look for in a movie. :)

  2. I have to admit, what I loved most about this movie was the scene at the beginning where she gets lost in the forest. But it was overall a sweet movie! I haven't seen "love at the thanksgiving day parade". Noting it down for later :)

    1. Yes! That scene was darling! I really liked Autumn and her co-star together in this scene and throughout the rest of the film, too. Hope you enjoy 'Thanksgiving.' It was all kinds of cute. :)
