Harvest Moon: ‘Once Upon a Time’ Star is a City Girl in Hallmark Romance

by

If there is one thing Hallmark does right, it’s the seasons. Christmas may be their most popular season, but as each year passes they progressively grow the number of originals they air. During the autumn season, they have four newbies to share with Harvest Moon being their second in the line up. No matter how many new films they continue to ply us with, speaking for myself, I’ll continue to return. Each seem to hold the kind of appeal a peanut butter cup has. I seem to indulge in “just one more” no matter how many they introduce.

Harvest Moon (2015) Hallmark Review

This one tells the story of ritzy city girl Jennifer Stone (Jessy Schram), a woman who suddenly sees her upper crust lifestyle ripped from her. You see, her father has lost all of money and Jen’s credit cards are declined, a kind of death sentence for the fashionista in her. The one bright spot in her dismal circumstances involves a pumpkin farm, land her father bought in hopes of developing. But Jen has plans to sell the land, reclaim her life and move on. Only when she arrives on the farm things aren’t quite as simple as she’d have hoped.

You see, on the farm resides Ben (Jesse Hutch) and his brother… and his aunt… and his daughter… and employees. Jennifer’s simple plan isn’t as easy as she anticipated. Plus, Ben isn’t about to let the farm that’s been in his family for generations be sold without a fight.

Cute, cute and cute! That pretty much sums up this film. I was impressed with it for a number of reasons, not the least of which was its sweet premise. This is perhaps Hallmark’s greatest “weapon.” They have a knack for producing not only wholesome films (bravo to them for keeping to that moral compass) but films that tug at us or perhaps they play to the romantic in us, which Harvest Moon certainly does.

I think what I liked most about this one were the surprises. Going in blind, I hadn’t realized the script involved a single dad (as next week’s premiere also does) and best of all, oh my gosh, this ending is actually complete. Because of these things I confess I fell head over heels for this charmer. I adored the cast (to see Jessy in something after her stint as Cinderella on Once and of course, Jesse is no stranger to the role of Hallmark leading men) and the sweet “dancing” scene involving, yes, instruction on the art of dancing.

If you’re looking for a charming Saturday night flick, curl up on the couch with your favorite hot beverage and tune in to Hallmark Channel’s latest. It’s as delightful as the season it celebrates.

  1. This was SO cute. :) I was surprised at how much I liked this. Can't wait for this week's new fall movie! The main gal is Victoria from How I Met Your Mother who I *loved* so I'm really excited.

    1. Ditto! I agree, Meghan. I was surprised how much I loved it too! I really wanted to see the first premiere, but didn't have a chance. Either way, I'll hope to watch October Kiss too as it sounds cute. And I hope you enjoy – especially as it stars one of your favorites. :)

    1. How fun! I hope you enjoy October Kiss, Lisa. I'm hoping to have a peek at it this week, but it'll depend on how the week pans out. I'd love to know what you think when you see it. :)

    2. Enjoyed October Kiss more than Harvest Moon. Better chemistry and perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit. Highlighting our societies obsession with electronics and how it affects parenting was just a bonus.

    3. The script for October Kiss was really good. I enjoy how Sam learned to make more time for his family; it was part of the reason the film had charm – plus I thought Poppy was a crazy fun character. Glad you enjoyed it, Lisa. :)
