Beauty and the Beast

A very good morning to you, readers. Today, I’m writing with some exciting upcoming film developments. What are they, you ask? Well, as you’ll remember, I’ve already gushed, fangirl-ed and loved sharing about the cast line-up for Disney’s (2017) live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. If I could were to drop any sense of comporting myself as a “professional,” this blog post would be a string of incoherent excitement. As it is, I’m managing to remain composed. For the most part. movie news: disney’s beauty and the beast

Why this excitement? Today, over a year after I posted said casting news, Disney drops its first trailer for Beauty and the Beast, which is (as of now) set to release March 2017. Below you can see the trailer (just in case you haven’t yet). I think it’s absolutely smashing. It gives away nothing, but tells so much, all captured within these all too brief frames, but what is here looks gorgeous. I like that Disney is keeping this as “under wraps” as they can. This makes the anticipation all the greater. Let’s have a look again at the cast, and detailed information.

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

Directed by Oscar® winner Bill Condon from a screenplay by TBD based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice. “Beauty and the Beast” will be released in U.S. theaters on March 17, 2017. – Disney Movie Trailers (via YouTube)

    1. My pleasure, Loraine. :) Yes, from all that I've read this is going to be very traditional and respectful of the original Disney classic. If it's anything like Cinderella, I know I'll love it. :)

  1. I just saw the trailer a few hours ago! It looks beautiful, and I'm so excited. But I'm also thinking, don't mess this up, Disney! Cinderella was beautiful and well done, so I hope Beauty and the Beast will be, too (and the casting is amazing). But the animated version is my favorite Disney movie ever so of course you have higher expectations when you're so attached to something. :)

    1. I've a good feeling about this one, Kristin. If they can do it up right with Cinderella (which I don't think could have been in more beautiful or well made), they *have* to with Beauty and the Beast. At least that's my theory. ;)

I understand that. I don't know if I have a favorite animated Disney flick. I love several of the oldies as well as the newer ones too. :)

  2. I just saw this. I am still unsure (too star studded plus Cinderella was so good that I think it almost impossible for this to be as good), but when the original music started playing . . . I am probably going to like it more than I think.

  3. It brought tears. And by tears, I mean happy ones. :-D :-D :-D
The cast sounds AMAZING! I mean… *squeals* I am SO EXCITED!!!!!!!

    1. Fangirls unite, Grace! I'm so excited about this one and cannot wait to finally see it. :) *throws confetti*

With that cast, it has no choice but to be amazing, right!?

  4. This sounds so cool! You know I flipped when I saw that Dan Stevens is going to be the Beast. And I think Emma Watson will make a fierce Belle. Annnnnd I'm so excited that Ewan McGregor is going to be Lumiere! Ugh, it such a great cast. Can't wait!

    1. The for this couldn't have been better. Or if it might have been, I cannot imagine it. :) I'm right there with you. Cannot wait for this.

  5. Someone get the smelling salts – I think I'm going to faint from excitement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The fact that Luke Evans is playing in it is enough for some excitement but it's not just that – it's the fact that my favorite Disney princess cartoon is coming to life!!!!

    1. Right!? I'm SO excited about this one too, Kara. Cannot wait to see this one and of course, the cast list is amazing. Like you, I'm ecstatic to see one of my favorite Disney heroines in a live-action film. :)

    1. YES! My reaction too, Bekah. I loved this so much, I have shared this post a gazillion times and wrote about it over on Silver Petticoat. :)

  6. I almost cried when I watched this for the first time, I'm not gonna lie. It just brought back so many happy childhood memories :') I can't wait to see this movie!! And seriously, how does Emma Watson always look so ridiculously beautiful?! Man…

    1. Emma Watson is going to be an ideal Belle methinks. Or at least that's my impression. :) I loved how this trailer turned out. Now, for the release of all those promotional images! ;)
