Though the start of a new month can be many things (in this case, it’s all about the shifting weather and a beautiful canvas of nature), one of the positive things a new month brings with it is the release of new books.

Since I’ve had the chance to read so many amazing books lately, and am still on this great run (best feeling ever for a bookworm), I thought I’d talk about a few of these books today. Below, I’ve collected a list of a few books that are on my read shelf and were amazing, as well as a few of the books coming out this month that have piqued my interest (SO. MANY. BOOKS.).

First up, books I’ve recently read (and think you should too) plus one I plan to read this month.

A New Shade of Summer* by Nicole Deese

As an artist, Callie Quinn relies on inspiration to guide her wandering soul. This summer she accepts a short-term muralist job in her sister’s charming town to spend some much-needed time with her family. After meeting her nephew’s friend, Brandon, she’s eager to draw out his untapped artistic talents—however, it’s the boy’s straitlaced single father who could use a little color in his life.

Davis Carter may be the town’s favorite animal whisperer, but his experience is limited when it comes to understanding his preteen’s rebellious behavior. Desperate for a breakthrough, he follows the lead of a free spirit who claims to know the way into his son’s closed-off world. Soon, Davis isn’t the only one caught up in the hope of a new beginning. Just as Callie considers trading her unattached existence for a life rich with promise and permanence, an unexpected visit from the past threatens to send her packing once again. ALL THIS TIME by Melissa Tagg

Bear McKinley’s past refuses to let go.

Ten years ago, Bear gave up everything—his freedom and his reputation—for his mess of a family. But after years of distance and too many attempts at starting over, he finally has a new life doing noble work in Brazil . . . until his past catches up to him once again. Suddenly he finds himself back in Maple Valley, charged with the care of his missing brother’s children, convinced he’s out of second chances to make his life count. And yet, with every day that passes, these kids, this quirky town and the woman he never stopped missing help patch the holes in his heart. Maybe this is the fresh start he’s been longing for all along. But as his newfound hope grows, so does the mystery surrounding his brother’s activities—and when the threat reaches into the lives of those he loves, it’s clear he can’t run away this time.

Fear holds Raegan’s future captive.

Raegan Walker is fine. She’s happy working a slew of part-time jobs, still living in her childhood bedroom and rarely venturing from her hometown. At least, that’s what she tells everyone . . . and herself. But she can’t help wondering what might’ve happened if she hadn’t abandoned her art so many years ago—and if Bear McKinley had never left. When Bear returns and she’s commissioned for a painting that just might revive her artistic ambition all in one week, it’s time to finally reach for more than fine. But doing so means facing the fears that have held her back all this time, including admitting the secret she’s kept from Bear and her family. With her dream and her heart on the line, how much will Raegan have to risk to finally chase her happy ending? – Goodreads, September 28 | Add on Goodreads

JANE UNLIMITED* by Jane Cashore

Jane has lived an ordinary life, raised by her aunt

On My Bookshelf, Edition 2: Anticipating September 2017. Chatting about books coming soon and books on my TBR. All text is © Rissi JC

Magnolia—an adjunct professor and deep sea photographer. Jane counted on Magnolia to make the world feel expansive and to turn life into an adventure. But Aunt Magnolia was lost a few months ago in Antarctica on one of her expeditions. Now, with no direction, a year out of high school, and obsessed with making umbrellas that look like her own dreams (but mostly just mourning her aunt), she is easily swept away by Kiran Thrash—a glamorous, capricious acquaintance who shows up and asks Jane to accompany her to a gala at her family’s island mansion called Tu Reviens. Jane remembers her aunt telling her: “If anyone ever invites to you to Tu Reviens, promise me that you’ll go.” With nothing but a trunkful of umbrella parts to her name, Jane ventures out to the Thrash estate. Then her story takes a turn, or rather, five turns. What Jane doesn’t know is that Tu Reviens will offer her choices that can ultimately determine the course of her untethered life. But at Tu Reviens, every choice comes with a reward, or a price. – Goodreads, September 19 | Add on Goodreads

*Sounds especially interesting because it’s a five-scenario story, and each one is told in a different genre.

THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE MY HOUSE* by Stephanie Perkins

Scream meets YA in this hotly-anticipated new novel from the bestselling author of Anna and the French Kiss

On My Bookshelf, Edition 2: Anticipating September 2017. Chatting about books coming soon and books on my TBR. All text is © Rissi JC

One-by-one, the students of Osborne High are dying in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, the dark secrets among them must finally be confronted.

International bestselling author Stephanie Perkins returns with a fresh take on the classic teen slasher story that’s fun, quick-witted, and completely impossible to put down. – Goodreads, September 26 | Add on Goodreads

*Considering how much I adore ‘Anna,’ I’m cautiously optimistic about this one. I never read the horror genre, but since Perkins name is one the cover, I’m optimistic this one might come with some sense of “wit.”

  1. I was really excited about Cashore, Lockhart, and Perkins, but now I am scared, because early reviews have been meh. I am super pumped about Warcross. My co-blogger has already endorsed it, and I so love Marie Lu.

    1. Uh-oh! That's a bummer. If you do read any of these, I'll be curious to know what you think. As for Warcross, I'm seeing that one earn SO MUCH BUZZ. Hope it's worth the hype – and I'm happy to know your co-blogger loved it. :)

  2. Hometown Girl and Genuine Fraud are going on my TBR list right now….;) I'm not into horror stories, but There's Someone Inside Your House might be one I will try. I will wait and see what you think.:)

    1. I know what you mean, Amanda. I'm SO NOT into horror stories either, but as it's Perkins… well, I AM curious. We'll see what I think as the reviews come in and its release edges closer.

Hope you enjoy 'Fraud' and Hometown Girl. The latter sounds SO DARN CUTE!

    1. 'Jane' sounds crazy unique, Lindsey. I'm not sure if it'll be a "me book," but I love that it takes such a unique approach to telling its story. :)

I'm cautiously optimistic about 'House' (because STEPHANIE PERKINS!), and thanks! I loved 'Lola.' Maybe not quite as well as 'Anna' but very nearly.

      Thanks for visiting, as always.

    1. YAYYAYYAY! Excellent choice, Heidi. I cannot wait to hear what you think about All This Time. It's a stunner. :)

PS: I will have a giveaway exclusively featuring 'Time,' so keep an eye out for that, too! :D
