Happy October, everyone. I hope this new month has started well for you all. How was September’s month for you – reading, life or blogging? Did you discover any nostalgic reads? Any cozy reads? Are you anticipating any of October’s reads? on my bookshelf, edition 3: anticipating october 2017

Though the start of a new month can be many things (in this case, it’s all about the shifting weather and a beautiful canvas of nature), one of the positive things a new month brings with it is the release of new books.

Since these past couple of months have ushered in some amazing books, I thought I’d talk about a few of these books today. Below, I’ve collected a list of a few books that are on my read shelf and were amazing, as well as a few of the books coming out this month that have piqued my interest (SO. MANY. BOOKS.).

First up, books I’ve recently read (and think you should too) plus one I plan to read this month.

LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR by Stephanie Perkins | Read the Review

Lola and the Boy Next Door is still an easy, breezy and cute read. I enjoyed Cricket’s pursuit of Lola (the way he expresses his interest only to withdraw to be the “better man”) and Lola’s creative soul is so darn fun. Reading about a character like this (who’s so boldly “out there” in her style and personality) makes the experience all the brighter. – ★★★★

ALL THIS TIME by Melissa Tagg | Read the Review

With its signature “cozy” vibe and feels, the breath-catching moments are amped up in All This Time. Whether it’s because of the underlying sense of “mystery” that surrounds Bear’s family or the achingly tender moments between Bear and Raegan, there is plenty to swoon and sigh over.   – ★★★★★

WRITTEN IN THE DUST by Christina Coryell | There are two basic types of people you’ll come across in small towns. Planters have the land in their blood and want to stay forever. Dreamers long for the day they will finally escape. Holly Christian? Definitely a planter. She’s never considered leaving for greener pastures, but it’ll be a whole lot easier to move forward when people finally stop telling her that will never happen. Thank goodness she has an ally in Hunter Pearce. He has no desire to leave now that he has what he’s always wanted. Well…almost. The words he can’t take back are still clinging closer than a humid summer afternoon.

Then there’s Gatlin Moore, who leans more in the dreamer direction. He used to imagine a future away from his hometown, but circumstances changed his plans long ago. Now he can’t stop thinking about bringing some of his dreams back to life, namely the ones that involve Brooke Langdon. Breaking up in their small town was hard, but getting back together might prove impossible. She may not be around long, unless she rediscovers what she used to love about the place. Putting her future in order by piecing together the past could mend her heart…or break it for keeps.

October’s COMING SOON

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND MISTLETOE by Melissa De La Cruz

Darcy Fitzwilliam is 29, beautiful, successful, and brilliant. She dates hedge funders and basketball stars and is never without her three cellphones—one for work, one for play, and one to throw at her assistant (just kidding). Darcy’s never fallen in love, never has time for anyone else’s drama, and never goes home for Christmas if she can help it. But when her mother falls ill, she comes home to Pemberley, Ohio, to spend the season with her dad and little brother.

Her parents throw their annual Christmas bash, where she meets one Luke Bennet, the smart, sardonic slacker son of their neighbor. Luke is 32 and has never left home. He’s a carpenter and makes beautiful furniture, and is content with his simple life. He comes from a family of five brothers, each one less ambitious than the other. When Darcy and Luke fall into bed after too many eggnogs, Darcy thinks it’s just another one night stand. But why can’t she stop thinking of Luke? What is it about him? And can she fall in love, or will her pride and his prejudice against big-city girls stand in their way? – Goodreads, releases October 17 Add on Goodreads

Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.

In his long-awaited return, John Green, the acclaimed, award-winning author of Looking for Alaska and The Fault in Our Stars, shares Aza’s story with shattering, unflinching clarity in this brilliant novel of love, resilience, and the power of lifelong friendship. – Goodreads, releases October 10 | Add on Goodreads

    1. Same! So many amazing books coming to our reading shelves this month. Gotta' love the new releases every month brings. :)

Thanks for stopping by, Kathy – and enjoy 'Jayne' and 'Illusions.'

    1. Uh-oh!! Sorry about this, Michelle. :D (If it helps, I know this feeling. I suffer this particular ailment too.)

      Glad you stopped in!

    1. I have Blind Spot on my must-read-asap list, Amanda and am very much looking forward to it. Hope you enjoy it too – and best of luck! :)

  2. Woah. A Pride & Prejudice story with gender reversal?!?!?! I *need* to see what that's all about. Thanks for sharing! I'm getting my copy of Turtles All the Way Down in the mail this week…I can't wait. Never heard of The Afterlife of Holly Chase book either, but that sounds super interesting. I'm presuming it's A Christmas Carol retelling? Love retold classics.

    1. Right!! I'm really excited about this 'Mistletoe.' Looking forward to reading more about it; plus it's Jane Austen…!

Let me know what you think of 'Turtles.' I've only read The Fault in our Stars by Green, and know next-to-nothing about this new book.

YAY for discovering new books. Yes! That's what I understand; 'Holly' is a re-telling of A Christmas Carol. Intriguing, right?

Glad to have you visit, Bekah! :)
