The Reading Habits Tag 2017

by

Hey, readers! Today, I’m coming to you with another tag. One that I haven’t previously done, but in this case, I was actually tagged in – yay! This is a switch from my usual ooo-a-new-tag-I’m-going-to-join-the-fun reaction.

Today, the incredibly talented Emilie from Create Explore Read tagged me to join The Reading Habits Tag. Thank you, Emilie.

Let’s talk about my (boring) reading habits today with a series of questions all meant to discover said habits.

The Reading Habits Tag 2017

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Primarily, it’s curled up in my tiny corner of the couch. I used to read before bed too, but nowadays I get my best block of reading time in the morning, post breakfast and in that tiny corner of the couch.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Neither, actually. Despite the fact that I own a number of cute bookmarks (how cute are those magnetic bookmarks on Etsy?), generally I use a paperclip. Or I will use a random scrap of something – anything from a paper towel to a piece of paper.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

Ideally I like to stop at the end of a chapter, but if I can’t, I try to make it to a chapter break.

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

No. Maybe I used to have a drink while reading, but nowadays I save my cup (or cups as may be the case currently) of Café Mocha for my computer and writing work. If ever I do have something it’d be a glass of iced tea (summer) or a Mocha (winter).

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

Neither one. I used to listen to music, but I no longer seem to be able to considerate if the TV is on, which is why I like the blissful silence.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

Because of the type of reader I am, I really should only read one at a time… and I know this. But that doesn’t stop
me from reading multiple books – at times. Right now I think I’m only reading one. And that should be a lesson to keep to that credence.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Generally, I only read at home. That said, of course, anytime I head out the door, I have a book. One never knows if
you’ll have a wait ahead of you.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

In my head. I’ve been told it’s a good idea to read your own work aloud, but that isn’t something I’ve ever given a chance.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

Not as I presently read, no. I think I have in the past, but in recent years, I play the “good” reader.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I like them to be “new” look (call it the shallow part of my who likes a pretty bookshelf), but that said, I don’t baby my books. On the flip side, I don’t do anything to purposely damage them, but books are meant to be read, and that means broken spines and
curled edges. This is the sign of a well-loved and read story.

11. Do you write in your books?

No! In fact, I don’t think I can remember a time I wrote in my books… unless it was my name on the first page as
a kind of “please return to” purpose.

That’s a wrap for The Reading Habits Tag 2017. What fun it was, too. Again, many thanks to Emilie for thinking of Finding
Wonderland for this one. The questions are sure fun, so if you’d like to join in, please do! I didn’t tag anyone this go-round because I was editing (as usual) down to the wire (of my planned publication date), but if any of you wish to jump in, circle back here and leave your blog post links – you know I’d love to read your answers.

Tell me about your reading habits tag thoughts; do any of these apply to you? Have you have been guilty of any of them? Share all the bookish thoughts down below.

Thank you for visiting Finding Wonderland

    1. That sounds like an excellent reading habit, Megan – on both accounts. A favorite drink and highlighting in non-fiction books. There are usually LOTS of nuggets of wisdom in those non-fiction books. :)

  1. It's funny because I like reading while I eat, but I don't like eating while I read . . . which makes for an interesting combination sometimes XD

Such a fun tag! I really should do a bookish tag on my blog sometime.

    1. Nothing wrong with that – you just got to find those favorite reading habits, and what works for you. :) Please do feel free to join this tag. I'd love to read your answers if you do. Thanks for visiting, Hanne.
