Back in April of this year, we talked about something new in the form of a new period drama adaptation. Naturally, this news made me giddy with excitement over its eventual release. Only trouble is, there was no indication of the “when” U.S. audiences would be able to see this new period drama. Of course, we speak of the adaptation for (the best-selling novel) The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. This means today we’re having a little “on Netflix: Guernsey.”
Since its U.K. release, Netflix announced they own the U.S. distribution rights which then made audiences wonder: does this mean the film will only appear on Netflix? Or will it earn a stint in theaters?
Today we learn this answer! Today I discovered this one is set to premiere on Netflix August 10. Can we just let that excitement sink in for a minute!?
Needless to say, I’m thrilled the rumor of an August premiere date is now accurate, and I’ve just a little over a month before I can see this story unfold. A story that a. sounds so promising and b. has an all-star cast I know will create story telling magic!

This includes period drama pro Lily James (Downton Abbey, Cinderella), Michael Huisman (Age of Adaline), Mathew Goode, Jessica Brown-Findlay (both from Downton Abbey), and Glen Powell who some of you may have recently seen in Netflix’s Set It Up (thoughts on this romcom to come!).
Here’s the Netflix synopsis:
A writer bonds with the eccentric residents of Guernsey when she decides to write about the book club they formed during the WWII German occupation. – Netflix
Of course, inspired by this film, recently I was going to have a little Twitter read along. That hasn’t yet happened, but I’m 100% still planning on it for anyone who wants to join the fun! Watch my Twitter page for details. Right now, the plan is post-July 4th!

OMG, OMG, OMG. So excited, though I would love to see it on the big screen. With the film adaptation coming out, I finally read the book. I was worried it was over-hyped, but surprisingly I really enjoyed it.
I would have too, Brittaney… although I can't say I'm too sad that I'll be able to see it on Netflix instantly. ;)
SO happy to know the book is as great read. I'm planning to start it Monday with a couple of book blogging friends. Hoping we all enjoy. :)
So I live in one of the lucky few countries where this film has already aired in the cinemas, and I can tell you right now it is one of the most charming, sweet, moving, engrossing, old-fashioned stories I have seen, ever, and most importantly romantic as all get out! The cast are absolute magic together.
Unfortunately, I have however also come across quite a few people who've read the book express disappointment at the way the film diverges; I hope you will love it regardless, and I can't wait to read your review!

The cast looks fabulous, so knowing they also turn in excellent performances is the cherry on top. I look forward to reading the novel (planning to start next week), and of course, then watching this delightful adaptation. Or that's the hope. :)
