Top Ten Tuesday: Red, White and Blue, Oh My! (Happy Independence Day!)

by

Hello, fellow Top Ten Tuesday participants. Welcome to another edition weekly TTT meme, this week it’s a “Top Ten Tuesday: Red, White and Blue” kind of edition. Happy Independence Day to everyone.

That Artsy Reader Girl July 3: Books with Red, White, & Blue Covers (In honor of the 4th of July in the USA. Choose covers with your own country’s colors if you prefer!)

The red, white and blue color combination ordinarily might not be my favorite if choice comes into play (like with design work or other artistic pursuits). But because of what it represents, and stands for, growing up, it has become one of my favorite combos to pair together. There’s just something about the deep sea hues of the blue, and rich shades of red against that stark white that looks beautiful together. Perhaps it’s that deep-seated patriotism in me, but whatever the case, I love those red, white and blue shades together.

This is why today’s topic is all about having fun, and maybe featuring a few books from my shelf that are ordinarily overlooked. Because I’m basing the list off of three colors, below you’ll discover an array of genres and stories. Hopefully it’s a list that might even introduce you to some new possibilities or remind you of some old favorites.

(Also, the graphics are super simple today… because once again, last minute Top Ten Tuesday happenings are going on.)

Top Ten Tuesday: Red, White and Blue, Oh My! (Happy Independence Day!)

1: Lois Lane: Fallout by Gwenda Bond | This one is perfect for a twofold reason. One because it fits the topics color theme, and also because it’s about Lois Lane, the girlfriend of Superman who, we all know, is one of America’s noblest heroes. Goodreads

2: Velvet Undercover by Terri Brown | Though it’s been a while, I remember really liking this espionage YA thriller. Two additional reasons I liked this novel stems from it being a YA historical (which seem rare) and the sense of fighting for the good of country. Goodreads

3: All Fall Down by Ally Carter | Though the front cover of this one isn’t strictly “red, white and blue,” the spine is blue and underneath, the book is a beautiful shade of blue with bright foil lettering up the side. Ergo, it’s the perfect fit for today’s list. Goodreads

4: Crossed and Reached by Ally Condie | These ombre cover designs in blue and red are patriotic perfection! Don’t they look perfect with today’s theme? Crossed on Goodreads · Reached on Goodreads

5: Moving Target and Without Warning by Lynette Eason | Another perfect series color concept for today’s theme. Basically, this entire cover concept – red, white and blue or not, is perfection. Oh, and it features fierce leading ladies. Moving Target on Goodreads · Without Warning on Goodreads

6: A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn | A fairy tale re-telling of Sleeping Beauty, this is one of Alex Flinn’s novels I have not read. But as I’ve enjoyed what I did read by this author, I have a good feeling this too would be entertaining – and with its vibrant red coloring, it fits today’s theme wonderfully. Goodreads

7: An Uncertain Heart and For Love and Honor by Jody Hedlund | These YA historical novels are ideal for anyone who wants a sweet, and wholesome historical novel. Rich in period setting, Jody writes easy to like characters and a story that flows wonderfully. An Uncertain Heart on Goodreads · For Love and Honor on Goodreads

8: Conspiracy of Silence by Ronie Kendig | Adding a novel by Ronie Kendig to this list is a must. Military theme fiction doesn’t come more patriotic – or pulse pounding, than a novel penned by this author. Plus, this cover fit right in with its red crackle overlay and bold red text. Goodreads

9: Collide by Michelle Madow | This time-travel novel has been on my shelf for way too long. It sounds as if it has reflections of Michelle’s ‘Timeless’ series, so here’s hoping I discover this novel soon. Goodreads

10: Dead Drift and Submerged by Dani Pettrey | Anything by Dani is a must on my list. I’ve read Submerged (STILL LOVE IT!), and am now excited about reading her newest novel, Dead Drift. Dead Drift on Goodreads ᐧ Submerged on Goodreads

11: The Sea Before Us by Sarah Sundin | I couldn’t not add a novel by this talented author. Her books are fantastic studies in how to write a compelling historical novel – even in a setting that might not ordinarily have any joy. Goodreads

12: Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West | Neglecting to add this one was non negotiable. I mean, seriously! Could a cover be any cuter!? It screams “summer vibes”! Goodreads

    1. Thanks, Chrissi. I didn't "fancy" them this week – because LAST MINUTE!! – but at least I'd already snapped these. :D

      Glad you stopped by.

    1. I agree. Her books are the most perfect for for this topic. I'm surprised I remembered given how often I neglect adding certain books to these lists! :)

      Thanks for visiting. ☺

    1. Thanks so much, Brooke! It's always fun to use photos rather than the cover image. :)

Happy (belated) Independence day to you as well. I look forward to visiting your blog; thanks for making time for Finding Wonderland.

    1. Right? That Matched series has been on my shelf for WAY too long – probably since the beginning of my adult book collecting spree! :)

      Thanks for visiting, Tracy.

  1. I've actually never read any of these books, but I love seeing all the red, white, and blue covers. I even just added some to my tbr, like A Kiss in Time. I love fairy tale retellings! It's so great that we got to show off so many different genres this week!!

    1. I agree! Love showing off all the different genres – makes it so there's (hopefully!) something for everyone.

Ooo! Hope you enjoy A Kiss In Time. I haven't read that one, but I have liked what I did read by Alex.

Appreciate you visiting, Loretta. Thank you.
